Global multiplicity for parametric anisotropic Neumann $(p,q)$-equations

We consider a Neumann boundary value problem driven by the anisotropic $(p,q)$-Laplacian plus a parametric potential term. The reaction is ``superlinear". We prove a global (with respect to the parameter) multiplicity result for positive solutions. Also, we show the existence of a minimal positive solution and finally, we produce a nodal solution.

Elliptic problems on weighted locally finite graphs

Let $\mathscr G:= (V,E)$ be a weighted locally finite graph whose finite measure $μ$ has a positive lower bound. Motivated by wide interest in the current literature, in this paper we study the existence of classical solutions for a class of elliptic equations involving the $μ$-Laplacian operator on the graph $\mathscr G$, whose analytic expression is given by \begin{equation*} Δ_μ u(x) := \frac{1}{μ(x)} \sum_{y\sim x} w(x,y) (u(y)-u(x)),\ \hbox{for all} \ x\in V, \end{equation*} where $w : V\times V \rightarrow [0,+\infty)$ is a weight symmetric function and the sum on the right-hand side of the above expression is taken on the neighbors vertices $x,y\in V$, that is $x\sim y$ whenever $w(x,y) > 0$. More precisely, by exploiting direct variational methods, we study problems whose simple prototype has the following form $$-Δ_μ u(x)=λf(x,u(x)),\ x \in \mathop D\limits^ \circ , \ \hbox{and} \ u|_{\partial D}=0,$$ where $D$ is a bounded domain of $V$ such that $\mathop D\limits^ \circ\neq \emptyset$ and $\partial D\neq \emptyset$, the nonlinear term $f : D \times \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ satisfy suitable structure conditions and $λ$ is a positive real parameter. By applying a critical point result coming out from a classical Pucci-Serrin theorem in addition to a local minimum result for differentiable functionals due to Ricceri, we are able to prove the existence of at least two solutions for the treated problems. We emphasize the crucial role played by the famous Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz growth condition along the proof of the main theorem and its consequences. Our results improve the general results obtained by Grigor'yan, Lin, and Yang (J. Differential Equations 261(9) (2016), 4924-4943).

Constant sign and nodal solutions for parametric anisotropic $(p,2)$-equations

We consider an anisotropic $(p,2)$-equation, with a parametric and superlinear reaction term. We show that for all small values of the parameter the problem has at least five nontrivial smooth solutions, four with constant sign and the fifth nodal (sign-changing). The proofs use tools from critical point theory, truncation and comparison techniques, and critical groups.

The Neumann problem for a class of generalized Kirchhoff-type potential systems

In this paper, we are concerned with the Neumann problem for a class of quasilinear stationary Kirchhoff-type potential systems, which involves general variable exponents elliptic operators with critical growth and real positive parameter. We show that the problem has at least one solution, which converges to zero in the norm of the space as the real positive parameter tends to infinity, via combining the truncation technique, variational method, and the concentration-compactness principle for variable exponent under suitable assumptions on the nonlinearities.

On the Schrödinger-Poisson system with $(p,q)$-Laplacian

We study a class of Schrödinger-Poisson systems with $(p,q)$-Laplacian. Using fixed point theory, we obtain a new existence result for nontrivial solutions. The main novelty of the paper is the combination of a double phase operator and the nonlocal term. Our results generalize some known results.

Limits of manifolds in the Gromov-Hausdorff metric space

We apply the Gromov-Hausdorff metric $d_G$ for characterization of certain generalized manifolds. Previously, we have proved that with respect to the metric $d_G,$ generalized $n$-manifolds are limits of spaces which are obtained by gluing two topological $n$-manifolds by a controlled homotopy equivalence (the so-called $2$-patch spaces). In the present paper, we consider the so-called {\sl manifold-like} generalized $n$-manifolds $X^{n},$ introduced in 1966 by Mardešić and Segal, which are characterized by the existence of $δ$-mappings $f_δ$ of $X^n$ onto closed manifolds $M^{n}_δ,$ for arbitrary small $δ>0$, i.e. there exist onto maps $f_δ\colon X^{n}\to M^{n}_δ$ such that for every $u\in M^{n}_δ$, $f^{-1}_δ(u)$ has diameter less than $δ$. We prove that with respect to the metric $d_G,$ manifold-like generalized $n$-manifolds $X^{n}$ are limits of topological $n$-manifolds $M^{n}_{i}$. Moreover, if topological $n$-manifolds $M^{n}_{i}$ satisfy a certain local contractibility condition $\mathcal{M}(\varrho, n)$, we prove that generalized $n$-manifold $X^{n}$ is resolvable.

Mixed order elliptic problems driven by a singularity, a Choquard type term and a discontinuous power nonlinearity with critical variable exponents

We prove the existence of solutions for the following critical Choquard type problem with a variable-order fractional Laplacian and a variable singular exponent \begin{align*} \begin{split} a(-Δ)^{s(\cdot)}u+b(-Δ)u&=λ|u|^{-γ(x)-1}u+\left(\int_Ω\frac{F(y,u(y))}{|x-y|^{μ(x,y)}}dy\right)f(x,u) & +ηH(u-α)|u|^{r(x)-2}u,~\text{in}~Ω, u&=0,~\text{in}~\mathbb{R}^N\setminusΩ. \end{split} \end{align*} where $a(-Δ)^{s(\cdot)}+b(-Δ)$ is a mixed operator with variable order $s(\cdot):\mathbb{R}^{2N}\rightarrow (0,1)$, $a, b\geq 0$ with $a+b>0$, $H$ is the Heaviside function (i.e., $H(t)=0$ if $t\leq0$, $H(t) = 1$ if $t>0),$ $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain, $N\geq 2$, $λ>0$, $0<γ^{-}=\underset{x\in\barΩ}{\inf}\{γ(x)\}\leqγ(x)\leqγ^+=\underset{x\in\barΩ}{\sup}\{γ(x)\}<1$, $μ$ is a continuous variable parameter, and $F$ is the primitive function of a suitable $f$. The variable exponent $r(x)$ can be equal to the critical exponent $2_{s}^*(x)=\frac{2N}{N-2\bar{s}(x)}$ with $\bar{s}(x)=s(x,x)$ for some $x\in\barΩ,$ and $η$ is a positive parameter. We also show that as $α\rightarrow 0^+$, the corresponding solution converges to a solution for the above problem with $α=0$.

On existence of PI-exponent of algebras with involution

We study polynomial identities of algebras with involution of nonassociative algebras over a field of characteristic zero. We prove that the growth of the sequence of $*$-codimensions of a finite-dimensional algebra is exponentially bounded. We construct a series of finite-dimensional algebras with fractional $*$-PI-exponent. We also construct a family of infinite-dimensional algebras $C_α$ such that ${\rm exp}^*(C_α)$ does not exist.

On critical exponential Kirchhoff systems on the Heisenberg group

In this paper, existence of solutions is established for critical exponential Kirchhoff systems on the Heisenberg group by using the variational method. The novelty of our paper is that not only the nonlinear term has critical exponential growth, but also that Kirchhoff function covers the degenerate case. Moreover, our result is new even for the Euclidean case.

Generalized manifolds, normal invariants, and $\mathbb{L}$-homology

Let $X^{n}$ be an arbitrary oriented closed generalized $n$-manifold, $n\ge 5$. In our recent paper (Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc. (2) 63 (2020), no. 2, 597-607) we have constructed a map $t:\mathcal{N}(X^{n}) \to H^{st}_{n} ( X^{n}; \mathbb{L}^+)$ which extends the normal invariant map for the case when $X^{n}$ is a topological $n$-manifold. Here, $\mathcal{N}(X^{n})$ denotes the set of all normal bordism classes of degree one normal maps $(f,b): M^{n} \to X^{n},$ and $H^{st}_{*} ( X^{n}; \mathbb{E})$ denotes the Steenrod homology of the spectrum $\mathbb{E}$. An important nontrivial question arose whether the map $t$ is bijective (note that this holds in the case that $X^{n}$ is a topological $n$-manifold). It is the purpose of this paper to prove that the answer to this question is affirmative.

Degenerate fractional Kirchhoff-type system with magnetic fields and upper critical growth

This paper deals with the following degenerate fractional Kirchhoff-type system with magnetic fields and critical growth: $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{lll} -\mathfrak{M}(\|u\|_{s,A}^2)[(-Δ)^s_Au+u] = G_u(|x|,|u|^2,|v|^2) + \left(\mathcal{I}_μ*|u|^{p^*}\right)|u|^{p^*-2}u \ &\mbox{in}\,\,\mathbb{R}^N,\\ \mathfrak{M}(\|v\|_{s,A})[(-Δ)^s_Av+v] = G_v(|x|,|u|^2,|v|^2) + \left(\mathcal{I}_μ*|v|^{p^*}\right)|v|^{p^*-2}v \ &\mbox{in}\,\,\mathbb{R}^N, \end{array}\right. $$ where $$\|u\|_{s,A}=\left(\iint_{\mathbb{R}^{2N}}\frac{|u(x)-e^{i(x-y)\cdot A(\frac{x+y}{2})}u(y)|^2}{|x-y|^{N+2s}}dx dy+\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}|u|^2dx\right)^{1/2},$$ and $(-Δ)_{A}^s$ and $A$ are called magnetic operator and magnetic potential, respectively. $\mathfrak{M}:\mathbb{R}^{+}_{0}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{+}_0$ is a continuous Kirchhoff function, $\mathcal{I}_μ(x) = |x|^{N-μ}$ with $0<μ<N$, $C^1$-function $G$ satisfies some suitable conditions, and $p^* =\frac{N+μ}{N-2s}$. We prove the multiplicity results for this problem using the limit index theory. The novelty of our work is the appearance of convolution terms and critical nonlinearities. To overcome the difficulty caused by degenerate Kirchhoff function and critical nonlinearity, we introduce several analytical tools and the fractional version concentration-compactness principles which are useful tools for proving the compactness condition.

Anisotropic singular Neumann equations with unbalanced growth

We consider a nonlinear parametric Neumann problem driven by the anisotropic $(p,q)$-Laplacian and a reaction which exhibits the combined effects of a singular term and of a parametric superlinear perturbation. We are looking for positive solutions. Using a combination of topological and variational tools together with suitable truncation and comparison techniques, we prove a bifurcation-type result describing the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. We also show the existence of minimal positive solutions $u_λ^*$ and determine the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto u_λ^*$.

On critical variable-order Kirchhoff type problems with variable singular exponent

We establish a continuous embedding $W^{s(\cdot),2}(Ω)\hookrightarrow L^{α(\cdot)}(Ω)$, where the variable exponent $α(x)$ can be close to the critical exponent $2_{s}^*(x)=\frac{2N}{N-2\bar{s}(x)}$, with $\bar{s}(x)=s(x,x)$ for all $x\in\barΩ$. Subsequently, this continuous embedding is used to prove the multiplicity of solutions for critical nonlocal degenerate Kirchhoff problems with a variable singular exponent. Moreover, we also obtain the uniform $L^{\infty}$-estimate of these infinite solutions by a bootstrap argument.

Free groups as end homogeneity groups of $3$-manifolds

For every finitely generated free group $F$, we construct an irreducible open $3$-manifold $M_F$ whose end set is homeomorphic to a Cantor set, and with the end homogeneity group of $M_F$ isomorphic to $F$. The end homogeneity group is the group of all self-homeomorphisms of the end set that extend to homeomorphisms of the entire $3$-manifold. This extends an earlier result that constructs, for each finitely generated abelian group $G$, an irreducible open $3$-manifold $M_G$ with end homogeneity group $G$. The method used in the proof of our main result also shows that if $G$ is a group with a Cayley graph in $\mathbb{R}^3$ such that the graph automorphisms have certain nice extension properties, then there is an irreducible open $3$-manifold $M_G$ with end homogeneity group $G$.

Elliptic problem driven by different types of nonlinearities

In this paper we establish the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions to the following problem \begin{align*} \begin{split} (-Δ)^{\frac{1}{2}}u+u+(\ln|\cdot|*|u|^2)&=f(u)+μ|u|^{-γ-1}u,~\text{in}~\mathbb{R}, \end{split} \end{align*} where $μ>0$, $(*)$ is the convolution operation between two functions, $0<γ<1$, $f$ is a function with a certain type of growth. We prove the existence of a nontrivial solution at a certain mountain pass level and another ground state solution when the nonlinearity $f$ is of exponential critical growth.

The behavior of solutions of a parametric weighted (p,q)-Laplacian equation

We study the behavior of solutions for the parametric equation $$-Δ_{p}^{a_1} u(z)-Δ_{q}^{a_2} u(z)=λ|u(z)|^{q-2} u(z)+f(z,u(z)) \quad \mbox{in } Ω,\, λ>0,$$ under Dirichlet condition, where $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain with a $C^2$-boundary $\partial Ω$, $a_1,a_2 \in L^\infty(Ω)$ with $a_1(z),a_2(z)>0$ for a.a. $z \in Ω$, $p,q \in (1,\infty)$ and $Δ_{p}^{a_1},Δ_{q}^{a_2}$ are weighted versions of $p$-Laplacian and $q$-Laplacian. We prove existence and nonexistence of nontrivial solutions, when $f(z,x)$ asymptotically as $x \to \pm \infty$ can be resonant. In the studied cases, we adopt a variational approach and use truncation and comparison techniques. When $λ$ is large, we establish the existence of at least three nontrivial smooth solutions with sign information and ordered. Moreover, the critical parameter value is determined in terms of the spectrum of one of the differential operators.
