Universality and Regge-like spectroscopy for orbitally-excited light mesons

A new Regge-like mass relation for excited light mesons is presented in relativized quark model which supports an universality that the quark mass dependence of the light meson spectroscopy is suppressed significantly and the confining parameter is nearly family independent. It is obtained by using auxiliary field method and quasi-linearizing the solution to the mass relation solved from the model. The resulted mass predictions are in good agreement with the observed masses for the orbitally-excited trajectory family of $π/b$, $ρ/a$, $η/h$, $ω/f$, $K^{\ast}$ and $ϕ/f^{\prime}$. A semiclassical argument is given that the inverse slopes on the radial and angular-momentum Regge trajectories are equal in the massless limit of quarks.

Mass Formula for Light Nonstrange Mesons and Regge Trajectories in Quark Model

We study the Regge-like spectra of light mesons in a relativized quark model. An analytical mass formula is presented for the light unflavored mesons with the help of auxiliary field method, by which a quasi-linear Regge-Chew-Frautschi plot is predicted for the orbitally excited states. We show that the trajectory slope is proportional to the inverse confining parameter $1/a$ up to a factor depending on the strong coupling $α_{s}$ when the orbital quantum number $L$ is large. The result is tested against the experimental data of the spectra of the meson families $π/b$,$ρ/a$,$η/h$ and $ω/f$ in the ($L$,$M^{2}$) planes, with the fitted parameters consistent with that in the literatures.

The $Ξ^* \bar{K}$ and $Ωη$ interaction within a chiral unitary approach

In this work we study the interaction of the coupled channels $Ωη$ and $Ξ^* \bar{K}$ within the chiral unitary approach. The systems under consideration have total isospins $0$, strangeness $S = -3$, and spin $3/2$. We studied the $s$ wave interaction which implies that the possible resonances generated in the system can have spin-parity $J^P = 3/2^-$. The unitary amplitudes in coupled channels develop poles that can be associated with some known baryonic resonances. We find there is a dynamically generated $3/2^-$ $Ω$ state with mass around $1800$ MeV, which is in agreement with the predictions of the five-quark model.

The 't Hooft coupling and baryon mass splitting in the large-N chiral model

We study the 't Hooft coupling $g_{t}$ and the mass splitting of the ground-state baryons in a chiral quark model inspired by the large $N_{c}$ QCD. Depending on $g_{t}$ the Hartree wavefunction of light quark in baryons is used to map the mass hyperfine splittings for the octet and decuplet baryons. The 't Hooft coupling $g_{t}$ that reproduces the data of baryon masses is determined to be around $1.57$, which is small in the sense that $g_{t}^{2}/(4πN_{c})\ll $$1$.

Stimulus-Dependent Frequency Modulation of Information Transmission in Neural Systems

Neural oscillations are universal phenomena and can be observed at different levels of neural systems, from single neuron to macroscopic brain. The frequency of those oscillations are related to the brain functions. However, little is know about how the oscillating frequency of neural system affects neural information transmission in them. In this paper, we investigated how the signal processing in single neuron is modulated by subthreshold membrane potential oscillation generated by upstream rhythmic neural activities. We found that the high frequency oscillations facilitate the transferring of strong signals, whereas slow oscillations the weak signals. Though the capacity of information convey for weak signal is low in single neuron, it is greatly enhanced when weak signals are transferred by multiple pathways with different oscillation phases. We provided a simple phase plane analysis to explain the mechanism for this stimulus-dependent frequency modulation in the leakage integrate-and-fire neuron model. Those results provided a basic understanding of how the brain could modulate its information processing simply through oscillating frequency.

Dynamical bag in a chiral quark model

A type of bag function is proposed to make the MIT bag surface of baryon dynamical. It is illustrated through renormalization of the quark field that the softening of chiral bag gives rise to a model of chiral quark with effectively-generated mass of quark, in which confined quark moves in the background of nonlinear pion. A prediction of bag constant $B$ $\simeq 2f_π^{2}m_π^{2}\allowbreak $ is made. With two free parameters, the self-coupling $e$ of pion and the confining scale $a$, the computed mass, the charge root-mean-square radius and magnetic moment of the proton are in good agreement with the experimental values.

A Ginzburg-Landau model of knotted flux-tube and glueball-like $f_{J}$ mesons

A dual Ginzburg-Landau model of the knotted chromo-electric flux-tube is revisited, in which the covariant decomposition of gluon field and the random phase approximation are used. It is shown that the SU(2) QCD vacuum is of type-II superconductor, with the Ginzburg-Landau parameter $κ= \sqrt{3}$, being independent of the magnetic condensate and strong coupling used, and consistent with the lattice data. The mass spectrum of a number of $f_{J}$ meson states with $J\leq 2$, which are taken to be of glue dominate, are computed with help of the energies of the knotted(linked) QCD fluxtubes. The low-lying $f_{J}$ states ($leq 1.7GeV$) are shown to be associated with the string excitations of the types $2_{1}^{2}$ and $K=3_{1}^{}$ in knot topologies.

Analytical Solution for the SU(2) Hedgehog Skyrmion and Static Properties of Nucleons

An analytical solution for symmetric Skyrmion was proposed for the SU(2) Skyrme model, which take the form of the hybrid form of a kink-like solution and that given by the instanton method. The static properties of nucleons was then computed within the framework of collective quantization of the Skyrme model, with a good agreement with that given by the exact numeric solution. The comparisons with the previous results as well as the experimental values are also given.

Abelian-Higgs Phase of SU(2) QCD and Glueball Energy

It is shown that SU(2) QCD admits an dual Abelian-Higgs phase, with a Higgs vacuum type of type-II superconductor. This is done by using connection decomposition for the gluon field and the random-direction approximation. Using bag picture with soft wall, we presented a calculational procedure for glueball energy based on the recent proof for wall-vortices [Nucl. Phys. B 741(2006)1].
