Radiation of Channeled Positrons in Ultrasonic Wave

In the classical approximation, we examine the problem of radiation by channeled positrons in the field of a longitudinal ultrasonic wave when the condition of parametric resonance is satisfied. We show that in the case of planar channeling the intensity of the spectral distribution of the radiation can be several times larger than when the resonance condition is not satisfied.

On the computation of fundamental functions and Abelian differentials of the third kind

We consider the construction of the fundamental function and Abelian differentials of the third kind on a plane algebraic curve over the field of complex numbers that has no singular points. The algorithm for constructing differentials of the third kind is described in Weierstrass's Lectures. The article discusses its implementation in the Sage computer algebra system. The specificity of this algorithm, as well as the very concept of the differential of the third kind, implies the use of not only rational numbers, but also algebraic ones, even when the equation of the curve has integer coefficients. Sage has a built-in algebraic number field tool that allows implementing Weierstrass's algorithm almost verbatim. The simplest example of an elliptic curve shows that it requires too many resources, going far beyond the capabilities of an office computer. Then the symmetrization of the method is proposed and implemented, which solves the problem and allows significant economy of resources. The algorithm for constructing a differential of the third kind is used to find the value of the fundamental function according to the duality principle. Examples explored in the Sage system are provided.

How Magnetic Field Inhomogeneity of Plane Wiggler Affects Spontaneous Radiation of Electrons

The spectral distribution of spontaneous emission of electrons moving in a plane wiggler with inhomogeneous magnetic field is calculated. We show that electrons do complicated motion consisting of slow(strophotron) and fast(undulator) parts. The equations of motion are averaged over fast undulator part and we obtain equations for connected motion. It is shown, that the account of inhomogenity of the magnetic field leads to appearance of additional peaks in the spectral distribution of spontaneous radiation.

On a Positron Channeling in Ionic Crystals

An analytical expression is received for the effective interaction potential of a fast charged particle with the ionic crystal CsCl near the direction of axis <100> as a function of the temperature of the medium. A possibility of positron channeling in this potential is shown. By numerical analysis it is shown that the effective potential of axial channeling of positrons along the axis <100> of negatively charged ions practically does not depend on temperature of the media.

The cross sections for inelastic neutron scattering and radiative capture in the field of a light wave

The mixing of the levels of a compound nucleus in the field of a high-intensity light wave is considered. The cross sections for inelastic neutron scattering and radiative capture are computed with allowance for this effect. The effect of the electron shell on the effective charge for the dipole interaction between the neutron + nucleus system and the external electromagnetic field is taken into consideration.

The Influence of Absorption and Gain on Photonic Density of States

The photonic density of states (PDS) of the eigen polarizations (EPs) in cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) cells are calculated. The exact analytic expressions for the reflection and transmission matrices for the finite thickness CLC layer are used. We obtained the dependences for the PDS on the parameters characterizing absorption and gain, as well as the CLC cell thickness, CLC local dielectric anisotropy and refractive index of CLC layer surrounding. The possibility of connections between the PDS and the density of the light energy accumulated in the medium are investigated and it was shown that these characteristics have analogous spectra and, besides, the influences of the problem parameters on these characteristics also were analogous. We have shown, that the decrement of the refractive index of CLC layer surroundings leads to a sharp increase of the maximum PDS and, consequently, leads to a sharp decrement of the laser excitation threshold. The PDS dependence on the refraction coefficients of the substrates of the Fabry-Perot resonator filled with a CLC planar layer was investigated, too. It is shown that the subject system can work as a low threshold laser or a multi-position trigger.

The Effect of Defect Layer on Lasing in Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

The photonic density of states (PDS) of eigen polarizations (EPs) in cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) cells with a defect layer inside are calculated. The dependences for the PDS and light intensity in the defect layer on the parameters characterizing absorption and gain are obtained. We investigated the possibility of connections between the PDS and the density of the light energy accumulated in the system. The influence of the defect layer and CLC layer on the PDS are investigated. It is shown that the PDS is maximum when the defect is in the centre of the system. We showed also that the subject system can work as a low threshold laser, a multiposition trigger, filter, etc.

Permanent Magnets Undulator for Terahertz FEL

The terahertz FEL ferromagnetic undulator has been created. The length of the undulator period is 9cm, number of the periods is 27. By means of selection and redistribution of magnetic elements the spread of amplitudes of the magnetic field was reduced to 7%. Additional windings of magnetic elements were used to compensate for residual spread. Required focusing gradient of magnetic field was obtained as a result of relative displacement of alternating poles with opposite charge of magnetic field along the x axis. Parameters of undulator including focusing properties in the horizontal plane were investigated.

Polarization Properties of the Cholesteric Liquid Crystals

In the present paper, we investigate the polarization properties of the cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) with an isotropic/anisotropic defect inside them. Possibilities of amplification of the polarization plane rotation and stabilization of the light polarization azimuth by these systems are investigated in details.

Radiation Peculiarities in Chiral Photonic Crystals

The peculiarities of defect modes and reflection spectra of chiral photonic crystals (CPC) with an isotropic defect for various thicknesses of the defect layer was investigated. The peculiarities of the spectra of photonic density of the state (DOS) and those of the intensity at the center of the defect were investigated, too. It was shown that there is one more possibility of tuning of laser emission - by the change of the defect layer thickness - in CPCs doped with laser dyes (with resonance atoms) and with an isotropic defect. It was shown that the given system can work as a tunable narrow-band filter (or mirror) with tunable wavelength width and tunable location of frequency of the complete transmittance (reflection) band. The radiation peculiarities of these systems were discussed. It was shown that in certain conditions an anomalous strong radiation can be observed for defect modes, and low - threshold laser generation is possible, again, for these modes. It was also shown that radiation suppression is possible for defect modes. The peculiarities of group velocity, group velocity dispersion and nonreciprocity were studied.

Cholesteric liquid crystals with tunable defect inside

Peculiarities of the defect modes of cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) with an isotropic/anisotropic defect inside are investigated. The influence of the defect layer thickness and its anisotropy of refraction, the influence of the system thickness and of the defect layer position in the system, as well as the influence of the dielectric borders on the defect modes is investigated. It is shown that it is possible to change reflection at the defect modes in wide intervals and change the defect mode wavelength, by tuning the defect location and its thickness. Such a system possesses transmission asymmetry. Also, the CLC system thickness and the refraction coefficient of the medium bordering the CLC layer on its both sides have essential influence on the reflection at the defect mode and on the reflection frequency.

Physics of Cold Atomic Fermi Gases

We consider a cold two-species atomic Fermi gas confined in a trap. We combine the Hermitian coupling between the states (we assume them to be the states with different spins) with the Cooper pairing of atoms with these different spins. This opens up a new prospect for investigation of interplay between various phenomena involving Raman coupling (e.g., atom lasers, dark-state polaritons) and effects caused by Cooper pairing of particles (e.g., superfluidity). We have obtained a threshold of transition from oscillatory to amplifying behavior of matter waves.

Composite Cell from Nematic and Cholesteric Liquid Crystals as an Rotator of Electrically Tunable Polarization Plane

A liquid crystal optical device made of an optically anisotropic heterostructure is considered. The device consists of a cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) layer sandwiched by two phase-shifting anisotropic layers of a nematic liquid crystal (NLC). In this structure each of the NLC layers is a quarterwave plate. The problem is solved both by Ambartsumian method of layer addition and Muller matrix method. The peculiarities of reflection spectra, eigen polarizations, rotation of polarization plane and polarization ellipticity are studied. It is shown that this device can work as a light modulator or a system for obtaining linearly polarized light with electrically tunable rotation of the polarization plane (which is especially important for optical communication), as well as a device for obtaining the linearly polarized light from a non-polarized one.

X-Ray Radiation Generation in Heat Engines Using Electron Cooling

We consider a relativistic quantum heat engine that goes through a thermodynamical cycle consisting of stages involving laser-assisted cooling of electrons and the generation of Xray radiation. Quantum treatment of the processes makes it possible to obtain the necessary condition and the amount of work extracted from the interaction ingredients, as well as the efficiency of the heat engine. We have also found that the efficiency of the relativistic engine is less than the one for the nonrelativistic case for the same momenta. The obtained results set the limits to the cooling, as well as the intensity of X-ray radiation, in the quantum regime of the interaction of electrons with laser fields.

Undulator radiation in the THz range

The experimental device for generation of undulator radiation in terahertz wavelength region by use of undulator on ferromagnets is created. The device is based on a beam of a microtrone with the energy 7.5 MeV. The radiation wavelength is 200 micron. Registered spontaneous radiation has a power of 10 microwatt at a current of a beam 2 mA in a pulse. With the optical resonator, in a mode, the amplification of 6 percent is received, that in some times is more than expected value. This effect is explained as a result of partial coherence of radiation.

Infrared Radiation from Rough Surface

We consider generation of diffusive radiation by a charged particle passing through a random stack of plates in the infrared region. Diffusive radiation originates due to multiple scattering of pseudophotons on the plates. To enhance the radiation intensity one needs to make the scattering more effective. For this goal we suggest to use materials with negative dielectric constant .

Mathematical Modeling of Graphite-to-Diamond Transition

The energetic evaluations of graphite-to-diamond transition by electron irradiation are performed. The heat conduction problem is solved for the diamond synthesis when a pulse-periodic source of energy is located within a graphite cylinder; time dependences of temperature and pressure are found. It is shown, that the temperatures and pressures implemented in graphite are sufficient for graphite-to-diamond transition under electron bombardment.
