Reanalysis of Hadronic Cross Section Measurements at CMD-2

The updated results of the precise measurements of the processes e+e-->rho->pi+pi-, e+e-->omega->pi+pi-pi0 and e+e-->phi->KLKS performed by the CMD-2 collaboration are presented. The update appeared necessary due an overestimate of the integrated luminosity in previous analyses.

The lowest order inelastic QED processes at polarized photon-electron high energy collisions

The compact expressions for cross sections of photoproduction of a pair of charged particles $\mathrm{e}^+,\mathrm{e}^-$; $μ^+,μ^-$; $π^+,π^-$ as well as the double Compton scattering process are given. The explicit analytic expressions for the case of polarized photon and the initial electron in the kinematics when all the particles can be considered as a massless ones are presented. The photon polarization is described in the terms of Stokes parameters.

Calibration processes for photon-photon colliders

Processes with creation of a pair charged particles with emission of hard photon and two pairs of charged particles are considered for colliding partially polarized photon photon beams. The effects of circular and linear polarization of the initial photons are discussed in more details.

Lepton pair production in relativistic ion collisions to all orders in $Zα$ with logarithmic accuracy

The problem of summation of the perturbation series for the process of lepton pair production in relativistic ion collisions is investigated. We show that the amplitude of this process can be obtained in the compact analytical form, if one confines to the terms growing as a powers of logarithm energy in the cross section, the approximation of which is completely justified for such colliders as RHIC and LHC. Using this result we calculate the Coulomb corrections to the cross section of the process under consideration.

Radiative muon (pion) pair production in high energy electron-positron annihilation process

Process of muon (pion) pair production with small invariant mass in the electron-positron high-energy annihilation, accompanied by emission of hard photon at large angles, is considered. We find that the Dell-Yan picture for differential cross section is valid in the charge-even experimental set-up. Radiative corrections both for electron block and for final state block are taken into account.

Vacuum engineering at a photon collider?

The aim of this paper is twofold: to provide a rather detailed and self-contained introduction into the physics of the Disoriented Chiral Condensate (DCC) for the photon (and linear) collider community, and to indicate that such physics can be searched and studied at photon colliders. Some side tracks are also occasionally followed during the exposition, if they lead to interesting vistas. For gourmets, the Baked Alaska recipe is given in the appendix.

(Quasi)elastic electron-muon large-angle scattering to a two-loop approximation: eikonal type contributions I

Part of eikonal type contributions to $eμ$ large-angle high-energy scattering cross section is considered in a quasi-elastic experimental set-up. Apart from virtual corrections we examine inelastic processes with emission of one and two soft real photons as well as soft lepton and pion pairs. Virtual photon contributions are given within a logarithmic accuracy. Box type Feynman amplitudes with leptonic and hadronic vacuum polarization insertion are considered explicitly as well as double box ones. Wherever appropriate analytic expressions obtained are compared with those predicted by a structure function approach.

Near threshold radiative 3$π$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation

We consider the $π^+π^-π_0γ$ final state in electron-positron annihilation at cms energies not far from the threshold. Both initial and final state radiations of the hard photon is considered but without interference between them. The amplitude for the final state radiation is obtained by using the effective Wess-Zumino-Witten Lagrangian for pion-photon interactions valid for low energies. In real experiments energies are never such small that $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons would have negligible effect. So a phenomenological Breit-Wigner factor is introduced in the final state radiation amplitude to account for the vector mesons influence. Using radiative 3$π$ production amplitudes, a Monte Carlo event generator was developed which could be useful in experimental studies.

Single-spin asymmetry in pion production in polarized proton-proton collisions and odderon

Single-spin asymmetry appears due to the interference of single and double gluon exchange between protons. A heavy fermion model is used to describe the jet production in the interaction of gluon with the proton implying the further averaging over its mass. As usually in one-spin correlations, the imaginary part of the double gluon exchange amplitude play the relevant role. The asymmetry in the inclusive set-up with the pion tagged in the fragmentation region of the polarized proton does not depend on the center of mass energy in the limits of its large values. The lowest order radiative corrections to the polarized and unpolarized contributions to the differential cross sections are calculated in the leading logarithmical approximation. In general, a coefficient at logarithm of the ratio of cms energy to the pion mass depends on transversal momentum of the pion. This ratio of the lowest order contribution to the asymmetry may be interpreted as the partial contribution to the odderon intercept. The ratio of the relevant contributions in the unpolarized case can be associated with the partial contribution to the pomeron intercept. The numerical results given for the model describe the jet as a heavy fermion decay fragments.

Multiple lepton pair production in relativistic ion collisions

We apply the Sudakov technique to description of the multiple production of lepton pairs in peripheral collisions of ultrarelativistic heavy ions. For heavy ions with $Z_1α\sim Z_2α\ll 1$ one needs a careful treatment of the multiple Coulomb exchange between colliding ions and screening effects, whereas interaction of real or virtual lepton pairs with colliding ions can be neglected. We demonstrate that while the inclusive spectra are modified by multiple Coulomb exchange between the colliding ions, the Coulomb corrections to the momentum integrated multiplicity distributions do vanish. After transformation to the impact parameter representation the probability of $n$ lepton pair production is shown to obey the Poisson distribution. The relevant cross section is obtained.

Process 3 -> 3 and crossing symmetry violation

Using the Sudakov technique we sum the perturbation series for the process $3\to 3$ and obtain the compact analytical expression for the amplitude of this process, which takes into account all possible Coulomb interactions between colliding particles. Compare it with the amplitude of the lepton pair production in heavy ion collision i.e. in the process $ 2\to 4$, we show that crossing symmetry between this processes holds only if one neglects the interaction of produced pair with ions (i.e. in the approximation $Z_{1,2}α\ll 1$).

Polarized triplet production by circularly polarized photons

A process of the pair production by a circularly polarized photon in the field of unpolarized atomic electron has been considered in the Weizaecker-Williams approximation. The degree of longitudinal polarization of positron and electron has been calculated. An exclusive cross-section as well as a spectral distribution are obtained. We estimate the accuracy of our calculations at the level of a few percent. We show the identity of the positron polarization for considered process and for process of pair production in the screened Coulomb field of nucleus.

(Quasi)elastic electron--muon large-angle scattering to a two-loop approximation: vertex contributions

We consider a process of quasielastic $eμ$ large-angle scattering at high energies with radiative corrections up to a two-loop level. A lowest order radiative correction arising both from one-loop virtual photon emission and a real soft emission are presented to a power accuracy. Two-loop level corrections are supposed to be of three gauge-invariant classes. One of them, so called vertex contribution, is given in logarithmic approximation. Relation with the renormalization group approach is discussed.

The lepton pair production in heavy ion collisions in perturbation theory

We derive the first terms in the amplitude of lepton pair production in the Coulomb fields of two relativistic heavy ions. Using the Sudakov technique, which very simplify the calculations in momentum space for the processes at high energies, we get the compact analytical expressions for differential cross section of the process under consideration in the lowest order in fine structure constant (Born approximation) valid for any momentum transfer and in a wide kinematics region for produced particles. Exploiting the same technique we consider the next terms of perturbation series (up to fourth order in fine structure constant) and investigate their energy dependence and limiting cases. It has been shown that taking in account all relevant terms in corresponding order one obtains the expressions which are gauge invariant and finite. We estimate the contribution of the Coulomb corrections to the total cross section and discuss the cancellations of the different terms which holds in the total cross section.

Finite sum of gluon ladders and high energy cross sections

A model for the Pomeron at $t=0$ is suggested. It is based on the idea of a finite sum of ladder diagrams in QCD. Accordingly, the number of $s$-channel gluon rungs and correspondingly the powers of logarithms in the forward scattering amplitude depends on the phase space (energy) available, i.e. as energy increases, progressively new prongs with additional gluon rungs in the $s$-channel open. Explicit expressions for the total cross section involving two and three rungs or, alternatively, three and four prongs (with $\ln^2(s)$ and $\ln^3(s)$ as highest terms, respectively) are fitted to the proton-proton and proton-antiproton total cross section data in the accelerator region. Both QCD calculation and fits to the data indicate fast convergence of the series. In the fit, two terms (a constant and a logarithmically rising one) almost saturate the whole series, the $\ln^2(s)$ term being small and the next one, $\ln^3(s)$, negligible. Theoretical predictions for the photon-photon total cross section are also given.

QED radiative corrections to impact factors

We consider the radiative corrections to the impact factors of electron and photon. According to a generalized eikonal representation the e\bar e scattering amplitude at high energies and fixed momentum transfers is proportional to the electron form factor. But we show that this representation is violated due to the presence of non-planar diagrams. One loop correction to the photon impact factor for small virtualities of the exchanged photon is obtained using the known results for the cross section of the e\bar e production at photon-nuclei interactions.

Multiplicity distribution tails at high eneries energies

The idea that the hard channels may dominate in the very high multiplicity processes is investigated. Quantitative realization of the `hard Pomeron', deep inelastic scattering and large-angle annihilation mechanism combinations are considered in the pQCD frame for this purpose.
