Nuclear medium effects in muonic neutrino interaction with energies from 0.2 GeV to 1.5 GeV

Nuclear reactions induced by muon neutrino with energies in the range from 0.2 to 1.5 GeV in Monte Carlo calculations framework in the intra-nuclear cascade model are studied. This study was done by comparison between the available experimental data and theoretical values of total cross section, and the energy distribution of emitted lepton energy in the reaction muon neutrino-nucleus, using the targets: $^{12}$C, $^{16}$O, $^{27}$Al, $^{40}$Ar, $^{56}$Fe and $^{208}$Pb. A phenomenological toy model of primary neutrino-nucleon interaction gives a good agreement of our theoretical inclusive neutrino nucleus cross in comparison with the available experimental data. Some interesting results on the behavior of the cross section as function of 1p-1n and higher contributions are also sketched. The previous results on the percentage of fake events related in available experiments in $^{12}$C were expanded for the set studied nuclei. With the increase of mass target, the nuclear effects in the cross sections were observed along with the importance to take into account fake events in the reactions.

Systematic study of actinide and pre-actinide fission modes

In this work, we present new experimental data on mass distribution of fission fragments from $^{241}$Am proton-induced fission at $660$ MeV measured at the LNR Phasotron (JINR). The systematic analysis of several measured fragment mass distributions from different fission reactions available in the literature is also presented. The proton-induced fission of $^{241}$Am, $^{237}$Np and $^{238}$U at 26.5, 62.9 and 660 MeV was studied. The proton-induced fission of $^{232}$Th was studied at 26.5, 62.9 and 190 MeV. The fission of $^{208}$Pb also by a proton was investigated at 190, 500 and 1000 MeV. The fission of $^{197}$Au was studied for 190 and 800 MeV protons. Bremsstrahlung reactions with maximum photon energies of 50 and 3500 MeV were studied for $^{232}$Th and $^{238}$U. The framework of the Random Neck Rupture Model was applied in the analysis. The roles of the neutron excess and of the so called fissility parameter were also investigated.

Measurement of the correlation between flow harmonics of different order in lead-lead collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Correlations between the elliptic or triangular flow coefficients $v_m$ ($m$=2 or 3) and other flow harmonics $v_n$ ($n$=2 to 5) are measured using $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV Pb+Pb collision data collected in 2010 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated lumonisity of 7 $μ$b$^{-1}$. The $v_m$-$v_n$ correlations are measured in midrapidity as a function of centrality, and, for events within the same centrality interval, as a function of event ellipticity or triangularity defined in a forward rapidity region. For events within the same centrality interval, $v_3$ is found to be anticorrelated with $v_2$ and this anticorrelation is consistent with similar anticorrelations between the corresponding eccentricities $ε_2$ and $ε_3$. On the other hand, it is observed that $v_4$ increases strongly with $v_2$, and $v_5$ increases strongly with both $v_2$ and $v_3$. The trend and strength of the $v_m$-$v_n$ correlations for $n$=4 and 5 are found to disagree with $ε_m$-$ε_n$ correlations predicted by initial-geometry models. Instead, these correlations are found to be consistent with the combined effects of a linear contribution to $v_n$ and a nonlinear term that is a function of $v_2^2$ or of $v_2v_3$, as predicted by hydrodynamic models. A simple two-component fit is used to separate these two contributions. The extracted linear and nonlinear contributions to $v_4$ and $v_5$ are found to be consistent with previously measured event-plane correlations.

Photo-fission of 232Th and 238U at intermediate energies

In this work we present an analysis of the yields of fission fragments induced by bremsstrahlung photons with endpoint energies of 50 and 3500 MeV on 232Th and 238U targets using the simulation code CRISP. A multimodal fission option was added to this code and an extension of the calculation to the properties of the fission products is presented. By dividing the fissioning nuclei according to their fissionability, an approach is introduced which accounts for the contribution of symmetric and asymmetric fission. By adopting this procedure, it was possible to calculate the main parameters for the fission fragment charge distribution such as the most probable charge for a given fission product mass chain and its corresponding width parameter. Also, it was possible to reproduce features of fragment mass distribution and evaluate the fissility of fissioning nuclei for photon-induced fission of 232Th and 238U.

Proton-induced fission on 241Am, 238U and 237Np at intermediate energies

Intermediate energy data of proton-induced fission on 241Am, 238U and 237Np targets were analysed and investigated using the computational simulation code CRISP. Inelastic interactions of protons on heavy nuclei and both symmetric and asymmetric fission are regarded. The fission probabilities are obtained from the CRISP code calculations by means of the Bohr-Wheeler model. The fission cross sections, the fissility and the number of nucleons evaporated by the nuclei, before and after fission, are calculated and compared with experimental data. Some of the model predictions agree completely with the data. We conclude that our two step model of the CRISP code provides a good description of intermediate energy proton-induced fission.

Super-asymmetric fission of heavy nuclei induced by intermediate energy protons

In this work we present the results for the investigation of intermediate-mass fragment (IMF) production with the proton-induced reaction at 660 MeV on 238U and 237Np target. The data were obtained with the LNR Phasotron U-400M Cyclotron at Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia. A total of 93 isotopes, in the mass range of 30 < A < 200, were unambiguously identified with high precision. The fragment production cross sections were obtained by means of the induced-activation method in an off-line analysis. Mass-yield distributions were derived from the data and compared with the results of the simulation code CRISP for multimodal fission. A discussion of the super-asymmetric fragment production mechanism is also given.

Non-extensivity of hadronic systems

The predictions from a non-extensive self-consistent theory recently proposed are investigated. Transverse momentum ($p_T$) distribution for several hadrons obtained in $p+p$ collisions are analyzed to verify if there are evidence for a limiting effective temperature and a limiting entropic factor. In addition, the hadron-mass spectrum proposed in that theory is confronted with available data. It turns out that all $p_T$-distributions and the mass spectrum obtained in the theory are in good agreement with experiment with constant effective temperature and constant entropic factor. The results confirm that the non-extensive statistics plays an important role in the description of the termodynamics of hadronic systems, and also that the self-consistent principle holds for energies as high as those achieved in the LHC. A discussion on the best $p_T$-distirbution formula for fitting experimental data is presented.
