Modeling of processes with anomalous interactions by means of auxiliary fields

The paper presents a method of modeling events with anomalous fermion-boson couplings by means of an auxiliary vector fields in addition to the SM gauge field. The method allows to simulate anomalous gauge couplings in different approaches, keeping only the linear order or higher order contributions of the anomalous couplings. The effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated by modeling the single top quark production processes with anomalous Wtb couplings.

Higgs-radion similarity in production processes involving off-shell fermions

The appearance of the radion field, which is associated with the spin-0 metric fluctuations combined in some manner with the scalar stabilizing field, and of the radion, the corresponding lowest Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode, is a generic prediction of stabilized brane world models. In such models the radion plays the role of the dilaton, and its mass may be somewhat smaller than that of all the KK modes of other particles propagating in the multidimensional bulk. Due to its origin, the radion couples to the trace of the energy-momentum tensor of the Standard Model, the interaction Lagrangian of the radion and the Standard Model fermions being similar to that of the SM Higgs-fermion interactions except for additional terms, which come into play only in the case of off-shell fermions. In the present paper it is shown that all the contributions to perturbative amplitudes of physical processes due to these additional terms are canceled out for both massless and massive off-shell fermions. Thus the additional fermion-radion terms in the interaction Lagrangian do not alter any production and decay properties of the radion compared to those of the Higgs boson.

Expectations for the Higgs boson identification at the ILC

Deviations from the standard Higgs sector generated by some new physics at an energy scale $Λ$ could be described by an effective $SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)$ invariant non-renormalizable Lagrangian terms of dimension six. A systematic study of various Higgs boson production channels ($γγ$, $ZZ$, $WW$, $b \bar b$, $τ\bar τ$) at the International Linear Collider (ILC) in the SM extension by effective operators is carried out. Statistical methods are used to establish a degree of consistency for the standard Higgs sector with the forthcoming data, using the expected ILC accuracies of the Higgs boson production channels. Global fits in the two-parametric anomalous coupling space indicating to possible deviations from the standard Higgs-fermion and Higgs-gauge boson couplings are performed.

Higgs boson signal at complete tree level in the SM extension by dimension-six operators

Deviations from the standard Higgs sector generated by some new (nonstandard) physics at an energy scale Λcould be described by an effective SU(3)_c x SU(2)_L x U(1) invariant non-renormalizable Lagrangian terms of dimension six. The set of dimension-six operators involving the Higgs field is chosen in such a way that the form of gauge bosons kinetic terms remains untouched, preserving all high-precision electroweak constraints. A systematic study of effects in various Higgs boson production channels (γγ, ZZ, WW, bb-bar, ττ-bar) caused by effecive operators is carried out beyond the {production x decay} approximation (or infinitely small width approximation). Statistical methods are used to establish consistency of the standard Higgs sector with the available LHC data. A global fit in the two-parametric anomalous coupling space indicating to possible deviations from the standard Higgs-fermion and Higgs-gauge boson couplings is performed, using post-Moriond 2012 data and more precise LC 2013 data. We find that the standard Higgs sector is consistent with the current CMS and ATLAS experimental results both in the infinitely small width approximantion and the calculation with complete gauge invariant sets of diagrams. However, visible difference of the exclusion contours is found for some combinations of production and decay channels, although minor for the global fits for all possible channels. Updates of the signal strength and the signal strength error reported at LC 2013 result in a significant improvements of the allowed regions in the anomalous coupling space, which are recalculated also at complete tree level.

The Single Top Quark Physics

The single top quark production has an electroweak nature and provides an additional to the top pair production source of the top quarks. The processes involving single top have unique properties, they are very interesting from both theoretical and experimental view points. Short review of the single top quark production processes is given in the paper.

Applying Shower Development Universality to KASCADE Data

On basis of the theorem of a universal shower development stating that a hadronically generated extensive air shower is completely described by the primary energy, the position of the shower maximum and a parameter related to the total muon number, the so-called correlation curve method is developed and applied to KASCADE data. Correlation information of the muon and electron content of showers measured by the KASCADE experiment are used for the reconstruction of energy and mass of primary cosmic rays. Systematic uncertainties of the method and the results are discussed in detail. It is shown that by this method general tendencies in spectrum and composition indeed can be revealed, but the absolute normalization in energy and mass scale requires much more detailed simulations.

New Physics at the LHC: A Les Houches Report. Physics at Tev Colliders 2007 -- New Physics Working Group

We present a collection of signatures for physics beyond the standard model that need to be explored at the LHC. The signatures are organized according to the experimental objects that appear in the final state, and in particular the number of high pT leptons. Our report, which includes brief experimental and theoretical reviews as well as original results, summarizes the activities of the "New Physics'' working group for the "Physics at TeV Colliders" workshop (Les Houches, France, 11-29 June, 2007).

A Les Houches Interface for BSM Generators

We propose to combine and slightly extend two existing "Les Houches Accords" to provide a simple generic interface between beyond-the-standard-model parton-level and event-level generators. All relevant information - particle content, quantum numbers of new states, masses, cross sections, parton-level events, etc - is collected in one single file, which adheres to the Les Houches Event File (LHEF) standard.

Interference between W-prime and W in single-top quark production processes

The paper is devoted to studies of prospects to search for hypothetical W-prime gauge bosons at hadron colliders via single-top quark production process. A special attention is paid to the interference between the Standard Model (SM) W and W-prime} boson contributions. A model independent analysis is performed for a wide interval of W-prime} masses potentially acceptable for a detection at the Tevatron and LHC. It is shown that the interference contribution to the cross section of the most promising s-channel single top production mode could be as large as 30 % for certain parameter points which is comparable to NLO effects computed in previous studies separately for the W-prime signal and the SM single-top background. The interference contribution affects particle distributions and has to be taken into account for more accurate W-prime signal and background simulation.

Prospects of a Search for a New Massless Neutral Gauge Boson at the ILC

Prospects to search for a new massless neutral gauge boson, the paraphoton, in e+ e- collisions at center-of-mass energies of 0.5 and 1 TeV are studied. The paraphoton naturally appears in models with abelian kinetic mixing. A possible realistic model independent lowest order effective Lagrangian contains magnetic interactions of the paraphoton with the Standard Model fermion fields. These interactions are proportional to the fermion mass and grow with energy, with however very weak paraphoton couplings to ordinary matter. At the ILC, a potentially interesting process to search for the paraphoton is its radiation off top quarks, so that the event topology to be searched for is a pair of acoplanar top quark jets with missing energy. By combining many discriminating features of signal and background events efficient paraphoton event selection was achieved allowing to set limits for the top-paraphoton coupling. Arguments in favor of the missing energy as the paraphoton with spin 1 are discussed.

A standard format for Les Houches Event Files

A standard file format is proposed to store process and event information, primarily output from parton-level event generators for further use by general-purpose ones. The information content is identical with what was already defined by the Les Houches Accord five years ago, but then in terms of Fortran commonblocks. This information is embedded in a minimal XML-style structure, for clarity and to simplify parsing.

Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis: SPA Convention and Project

High-precision analyses of supersymmetry parameters aim at reconstructing the fundamental supersymmetric theory and its breaking mechanism. A well defined theoretical framework is needed when higher-order corrections are included. We propose such a scheme, Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis SPA, based on a consistent set of conventions and input parameters. A repository for computer programs is provided which connect parameters in different schemes and relate the Lagrangian parameters to physical observables at LHC and high energy e+e- linear collider experiments, i.e., masses, mixings, decay widths and production cross sections for supersymmetric particles. In addition, programs for calculating high-precision low energy observables, the density of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe as well as the cross sections for CDM search experiments are included. The SPA scheme still requires extended efforts on both the theoretical and experimental side before data can be evaluated in the future at the level of the desired precision. We take here an initial step of testing the SPA scheme by applying the techniques involved to a specific supersymmetry reference point.

Impact of tau polarization on the study of the MSSM charged Higgs bosons in top quark decays at the ILC

The process of top quark pair production at the ILC with subsequent decays of one of the top quarks to a charged Higgs boson and b-quark is considered. The charged Higgs decays to tau leptons whose polarization is the opposite to those coming from W bosons. This difference is reflected in the energy distributions of the tau decay products in the top quark rest frame, which can be reconstructed at the ILC using the recoil mass technique. We present an analysis including spin correlations, backgrounds, ISR/FSR and beamstrahlung, and show that a fit of the shape of the pion energy spectrum yields the charged Higgs boson mass with an accuracy of about 1 GeV.

Physics at the CLIC Multi-TeV Linear Collider

This report summarizes a study of the physics potential of the CLIC e+e- linear collider operating at centre-of-mass energies from 1 TeV to 5 TeV with luminosity of the order of 10^35 cm^-2 s^-1. First, the CLIC collider complex is surveyed, with emphasis on aspects related to its physics capabilities, particularly the luminosity and energy, and also possible polarization, γγand e-e- collisions. The next CLIC Test facility, CTF3, and its R&D programme are also reviewed. We then discuss aspects of experimentation at CLIC, including backgrounds and experimental conditions, and present a conceptual detector design used in the physics analyses, most of which use the nominal CLIC centre-of-mass energy of 3 TeV. CLIC contributions to Higgs physics could include completing the profile of a light Higgs boson by measuring rare decays and reconstructing the Higgs potential, or discovering one or more heavy Higgs bosons, or probing CP violation in the Higgs sector. Turning to physics beyond the Standard Model, CLIC might be able to complete the supersymmetric spectrum and make more precise measurements of sparticles detected previously at the LHC or a lower-energy linear e+e- collider: γγcollisions and polarization would be particularly useful for these tasks. CLIC would also have unique capabilities for probing other possible extensions of the Standard Model, such as theories with extra dimensions or new vector resonances, new contact interactions and models with strong WW scattering at high energies. In all the scenarios we have studied, CLIC would provide significant fundamental physics information beyond that available from the LHC and a lower-energy linear e+e- collider, as a result of its unique combination of high energy and experimental precision.

Prospects of mass measurements for neutral MSSM Higgs bosons in the intense-coupling regime at a Linear Collider

We analyze the prospects for detecting the three neutral Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model in the intense-coupling regime at e+e- colliders. Due to the small mass differences between the Higgs states in this regime and their relative large total decay widths, the discrimination between the particles is challenging at the LHC and in some cases even impossible. We propose to use the missing mass technique in the Higgs-strahlung process in e+e- collisions to distinguish between the two CP-even Higgs eigenstates h and H, relying on their b b-bar decay in the b,b-bar,l+,l- event sample. Ah and AH associated production is then studied in the 4b-jet event sample to probe the CP-odd A boson. At collider energies sqrt(s) = 300 GeV and an integrated luminosity of 500 fb-1, accuracies in the mass measurement of the CP-even Higgs bosons are expected to range from 100 to 300 MeV, while for the CP-odd A boson, accuracies of less than 500 MeV can be obtained.
