A super-Earth and a sub-Neptune orbiting the bright, quiet M3 dwarf TOI-1266

We report the discovery and characterisation of a super-Earth and a sub-Neptune transiting the bright ($K=8.8$), quiet, and nearby (37 pc) M3V dwarf TOI-1266. We validate the planetary nature of TOI-1266 b and c using four sectors of TESS photometry and data from the newly-commissioned 1-m SAINT-EX telescope located in San Pedro M\'artir (Mexico). We also include additional ground-based follow-up photometry as well as high-resolution spectroscopy and high-angular imaging observations. The inner, larger planet has a radius of $R=2.37_{-0.12}^{+0.16}$ R$_{\oplus}$ and an orbital period of 10.9 days. The outer, smaller planet has a radius of $R=1.56_{-0.13}^{+0.15}$ R$_{\oplus}$ on an 18.8-day orbit. The data are found to be consistent with circular, co-planar and stable orbits that are weakly influenced by the 2:1 mean motion resonance. Our TTV analysis of the combined dataset enables model-independent constraints on the masses and eccentricities of the planets. We find planetary masses of $M_\mathrm{p}$ = $13.5_{-9.0}^{+11.0}$ $\mathrm{M_{\oplus}}$ ($<36.8$ $\mathrm{M_{\oplus}}$ at 2-$\sigma$) for TOI-1266 b and $2.2_{-1.5}^{+2.0}$ $\mathrm{M_{\oplus}}$ ($<5.7$ $\mathrm{M_{\oplus}}$ at 2-$\sigma$) for TOI-1266 c. We find small but non-zero orbital eccentricities of $0.09_{-0.05}^{+0.06}$ ($<0.21$ at 2-$\sigma$) for TOI-1266 b and $0.04\pm0.03$ ($<0.10$ at 2-$\sigma$) for TOI-1266 c. The equilibrium temperatures of both planets are of $413\pm20$ K and $344\pm16$ K, respectively, assuming a null Bond albedo and uniform heat redistribution from the day-side to the night-side hemisphere. The host brightness and negligible activity combined with the planetary system architecture and favourable planet-to-star radii ratios makes TOI-1266 an exquisite system for a detailed characterisation.

Thirteen years of Weather Statistics at San Pedro Martir Observatory

We present weather statistics for thirteen years of data gathered with the meteorological stations at Observatorio Astron\'omico Nacional in the Sierra San Pedro M\'artir (OAN-SPM) over the period 2007-2019. These weather stations include sensors that measure temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, precipitation and wind conditions, among other climatological variables. The median values of the air temperature are $10.3^{\circ}$ C and $7.0^{\circ}$ C for daytime and nighttime, respectively. The relative humidity follows a seasonal variation with April-June being the driest months while July-September being the most humid. The median values for the sustained wind speed are 11 and 14 km hr$^{-1}$ for daytime and nighttime data, respectively. Preferred wind directions are SSW and North. Sustained winds are stronger at night and during December, January and February. Our data indicate an annual mean rain precipitation of 313 mm, most of which occurs during the summer season as afternoon thunderstorms.

OPTICAM: A triple-camera optical system designed to explore the fastest timescales in Astronomy

We report the development of a high-time resolution, 3-colour, simultaneous optical imaging system for the 2.1 m telescope in San Pedro M\'artir Observatory, M\'exico. OPTICAM will be equipped with three Andor Zyla 4.2-Plus sCMOS cameras and a set of SDSS filters allowing optical coverage in the 320-1,100 nm range. OPTICAM will nominally allow sub-second exposures. Given its instrumental design, a wide range of fast-variability astrophysical sources can be targeted with OPTICAM including X-ray binaries, pulsating white dwarfs, accreting compact objects, eclipsing binaries and exoplanets. OPTICAM observations will be proprietary for only six months and will then be made publicly available for the astronomical community.

Night sky brightness at San Pedro Martir Observatory

We present optical UBVRI zenith night sky brightness measurements collected on eighteen nights during 2013--2016 and SQM measurements obtained daily over twenty months during 2014--2016 at the Observatorio Astronomico Nacional on the Sierra San Pedro Martir (OAN-SPM) in Mexico. The UBVRI data is based upon CCD images obtained with the 0.84m and 2.12m telescopes, while the SQM data is obtained with a high-sensitivity, low-cost photometer. The typical moonless night sky brightness at zenith averaged over the whole period is U = 22.68, B = 23.10, V = 21.84, R = 21.04, I = 19.36, and SQM = 21.88 mag/square arcsec, once corrected for zodiacal light. We find no seasonal variation of the night sky brightness measured with the SQM. The typical night sky brightness values found at OAN-SPM are similar to those reported for other astronomical dark sites at a similar phase of the solar cycle. We find a trend of decreasing night sky brightness with decreasing solar activity during period of the observations. This trend implies that the sky has become darker by delta_U =0.7, delta_B =0.5, delta_V =0.3, delta_R =0.5 mag/square arcsec since early 2014 due to the present solar cycle.

Existence of solutions for a system of coupled nonlinear stationary bi-harmonic Schrödinger equations

We obtain existence and multiplicity results for the solutions of a class of coupled semilinear bi-harmonic Schrödinger equations. Actually, using the classical Mountain Pass Theorem and minimization techniques, we prove the existence of critical points of the associated functional constrained on the \emph{Nehari manifold}. Furthermore, we show that using the so-called \emph{fibering method} and the \emph{Lusternik-Schnirel'man theory} there exist infinitely many solutions, actually a countable family of critical points, for such a semiliner bi-hamonic Schrödinger system under study in this work.

A critical fractional equation with concave-convex power nonlinearities

In this work we study the following fractional critical problem $$ (P_λ)=\left\{\begin{array}{ll} (-Δ)^s u=λu^{q} + u^{2^*_{s}-1}, \quad u{>}0 & \mbox{in} Ω\\ u=0 & \mbox{in} \RR^n\setminus Ω\,, \end{array}\right. $$ where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is a regular bounded domain, $λ>0$, $0 2s$. Here $(-Δ)^s$ denotes the fractional Laplace operator defined, up to a normalization factor, by $$ -(-Δ)^s u(x)={\rm P. V.} \int_{\RR^n}\frac{u(x+y)+u(x-y)-2u(x)}{|y|^{n+2s}}\,dy, \quad x\in \RR^n. $$ Our main results show the existence and multiplicity of solutions to problem $(P_λ)$ for different values of $λ$. The dependency on this parameter changes according to whether we consider the concave power case ($0<q<1$) or the convex power case ($1<q<2^*_s-1$). These two cases will be treated separately.

Muckenhoupt inequality with three measures and applications to Sobolev orthogonal polynomials

We generalize the classical Muckenhoupt inequality with two measures to three under appropriate conditions. As a consequence, we prove a simple characterization of the undedness of the multiplication operator and thus of the boundedness of the zeros and the asymptotic behavior of the Sobolev orthogonal polynomials, for a large class of measures which includes the most usual examples in the literature.

On some Critical Problems for the Fractional Laplacian Operator

We study the effect of lower order perturbations in the existence of positive solutions to the following critical elliptic problem involving the fractional Laplacian: (-Δ)^{α/2}u=λu^q+u^{\frac{N+α}{N-α}}, \quad u>0 &\quad in Ω, u=0&\quad on \partialΩ,$$ where $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ is a smooth bounded domain, $N\ge1$, $λ>0$, $0 0$, at least one if $λ=Λ$, no solution if $λ>Λ$. For $q=1$ we show existence of at least one solution for $0<λ<λ_1$ and nonexistence for $λ\geλ_1$. When $q>1$ the existence is shown for every $λ>0$. Also we prove that the solutions are bounded and regular.
