DEAP-3600 Dark Matter Search

The DEAP-3600 experiment is located 2 km underground at SNOLAB, in Sudbury, Ontario. It is a single-phase detector that searches for dark matter particle interactions within a 1000-kg fiducial mass target of liquid argon. A first generation prototype detector (DEAP-1) with a 7-kg liquid argon target mass demonstrated a high level of pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) for reducing $β$/$γ$ backgrounds and helped to develop low radioactivity techniques to mitigate surface-related $α$ backgrounds. Construction of the DEAP-3600 detector is nearly complete and commissioning is starting in 2014. The target sensitivity to spin-independent scattering of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) on nucleons of 10$^{-46}$ cm$^2$ will allow one order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity over current searches at 100 GeV WIMP mass. This paper presents an overview and status of the DEAP-3600 project and discusses plans for a future multi-tonne experiment, DEAP-50T.

Investigation of gamma ray detection performance of thin LFS scintillator with MAPD readout

Prototype of gamma ray detector based on Micro Pixel Avalanche Photodiodes (MAPD) with high pixel density 15000 pixel/$mm^2$, optically coupled to Lutetium Fine Silicate (LFS) scintillator has been developed. The detection performance investigated in the range of energy 59.6 - 662 keV at room temperature. The results of measurements are presented in this work.

CLIC-LHC Based FEL-Nucleus Collider: Feasibility and Physics Search Potential

The feasibility of a CLIC-LHC based FEL-nucleus collider is investigated. It is shown that the proposed scheme satisfies all requirements of an ideal photon source for the Nuclear Resonance Fluorescence method. The tunability, monochromaticity and high polarization of the FEL beam together with high statistics and huge energy of LHC nucleus beams will give an unique opportunity to determine different characteristics of excited nuclear levels. The physics potential of the proposed collider is illustrated for a beam of Pb nuclei.

Spin-vibrational 1+ states in 140Ce

The properties of collective I^$Π$=1+ states in double even semimagic nucleus 140Ce are investigated in random phase approximation(RPA). The calculation of the B(M1) strength, elastic gamma-scattering cross section $σ_(gamma)(ω)$ and gamma-decay width $Σ_(gamma)(ω_i)$ show that in 140Ce the isovector spin-spin interactions concenrate the main strength of M1 transition at energy 7.89 MeV where the isovector spin-flip magnetic resonance may appear. The predisctions are consistent with the observed M1 strength in 140Ce which is seen to be concentrated within a range of about 0.8 MeV centered at an excitation of 7.95 MeV.
