Alternate methods of evaluation for web sites concordant to IAS/IFRS Standards

This work has as the principal theme, the study, analysis and implementation of the methodology for use the web sites in e-commerce. The authors try to deal with particular methodological and applied aspects inherent in the analysis of data from the interaction of man-Internet (Web-mining). The research methodology of this work will be focused on a prevalent optic multidisciplinary research based on the pillars of data mining and Web mining. The explosion of Internet and electronic commerce has made the most of business to have its own website. A company may engage internal costs for the development and operation of their website. The website can be designed for internal access (in which case it can be used for presentation and data storage company policies with references of customers) or for external access (they are created and used for promotional and advertising products and services company). The objective of this research, primarily concerns the definition of a repertoire of tools in analyzing e-business through the development process for web-usage mining; 2nd objective is oriented to management, recognizing and evaluating the web-sites in accountancy, as property intangible, which is a special case and very little studied in economic literature financial specialty, the authors try to achieve a national and international accounting treatment of the creation and development of web-sites.

Light-like mesons and deep inelastic scattering in finite-temperature AdS/CFT with flavor

We use the holographic dual of a finite-temperature, strongly-coupled, gauge theory with a small number of flavors of massive fundamental quarks to study meson excitations and deep inelastic scattering (DIS) in the low-temperature phase, where the mesons are stable. We show that a high-energy flavor current with nearly light-like kinematics disappears into the plasma by resonantly producing mesons in highly excited states. This mechanism generates the same DIS structure functions as in the high temperature phase, where mesons are unstable and the current disappears through medium-induced parton branching. To establish this picture, we derive analytic results for the meson spectrum, which are exact in the case of light-like mesons and which corroborate and complete previous, mostly numerical, studies in the literature. We find that the meson levels are very finely spaced near the light-cone, so that the current can always decay, without a fine-tuning of its kinematics.

Shockwaves and deep inelastic scattering within the gauge/gravity duality

Within the gauge/gravity correspondence, we discuss the general formulation of the shockwave metric which is dual to a 'nucleus' described by the strongly-coupled N=4 SYM theory in the limit where the number of colors Nc is arbitrarily large. We emphasize that the 'nucleus' must possess Nc^2 degrees of freedom per unit volume, so like a finite-temperature plasma, in order for a supergravity description to exist. We critically reassess previous proposals for introducing transverse inhomogeneity in the shockwave and formulate a new proposal in that sense, which involves no external source but requires the introduction of an 'infrared' cutoff which mimics confinement. This cutoff however plays no role when the shockwave is probed by a highly virtual projectile, so like in deep inelastic scattering. We consider two such projectiles, the dilaton and the R-current, and compute the respective structure functions including unitarity corrections. We find that there are no leading-twist contributions to the structure functions at high virtuality, meaning that there are no point-like constituents in the strongly coupled 'nucleus'. In the black-disk regime at low virtuality, the structure functions are suggestive of parton saturation with occupation numbers of order one. The saturation momentum Qs grows with the energy like Qs^2 ~ 1/x (with x the Bjorken variable), which is the hallmark of graviton exchanges and is also necessary for the fulfillment of the energy-momentum sum rules.

A lattice test of strong coupling behaviour in QCD at finite temperature

We propose a set of lattice measurements which could test whether the deconfined, quark-gluon plasma, phase of QCD shows strong coupling aspects at temperatures a few times the critical temperature for deconfinement, in the region where the conformal anomaly becomes unimportant. The measurements refer to twist-two operators which are not protected by symmetries and which in a strong-coupling scenario would develop large, negative, anomalous dimensions, resulting in a strong suppression of the respective lattice expectation values in the continuum limit. Special emphasis is put on the respective operator with lowest spin (the spin-2 operator orthogonal to the energy-momentum tensor within the renormalization flow) and on the case of quenched QCD, where this operator is known for arbitrary values of the coupling: this is the quark energy-momentum tensor. The proposed lattice measurements could also test whether the plasma constituents are pointlike (as expected at weak coupling), or not.

Stochastic trailing string and Langevin dynamics from AdS/CFT

Using the gauge/string duality, we derive a set of Langevin equations describing the dynamics of a relativistic heavy quark moving with constant average speed through the strongly-coupled N=4 SYM plasma at finite temperature. We show that the stochasticity arises at the string world-sheet horizon, and thus is causally disconnected from the black hole horizon in the space-time metric. This hints at the non-thermal nature of the fluctuations, as further supported by the fact that the noise term and the drag force in the Langevin equations do not obey the Einstein relation. We propose a physical picture for the dynamics of the heavy quark in which dissipation and fluctuations are interpreted as medium-induced radiation and the associated quantum-mechanical fluctuations. This picture provides the right parametric estimates for the drag force and the (longitudinal and transverse) momentum broadening coefficients.

Parton picture for the strongly coupled SYM plasma

Deep inelastic scattering off the strongly coupled N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma at finite temperature can be computed within the AdS/CFT correspondence, with results which are suggestive of a parton picture for the plasma. Via successive branchings, essentially all partons cascade down to very small values of the longitudinal momentum fraction x and to transverse momenta smaller than the saturation momentum Q_s\sim T/x. This scale Q_s controls the plasma interactions with a hard probe, in particular, the jet energy loss and its transverse momentum broadening.

Jet evolution in the N=4 SYM plasma at strong coupling

Within the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence, we study the time evolution of an energetic R-current propagating through a finite temperature, strongly coupled, N=4 SYM plasma and propose a physical picture for our results. In this picture, the current splits into a pair of massless partons, which then evolve via successive branchings, in such a way that energy is quasi-democratically divided among the products of a branching. We point out a duality between the transverse size of the partonic system produced through branching and the radial distance traveled by the dual Maxwell wave in the AdS geometry. For a time-like current, the branching occurs already in the vacuum, where it gives rise to a system of low-momentum partons isotropically distributed in the transverse plane. But at finite temperature, the branching mechanism is modified by the medium, in that the rate for parton splitting is enhanced by the transfer of transverse momentum from the partons to the plasma. This mechanism, which controls the parton energy loss, is sensitive to the energy density in the plasma, but not to the details of the thermal state. We compute the lifetime of the current for various kinematical regimes and provide physical interpretations for other, related, quantities, so like the meson screening length, the drag force, or the trailing string, that were previously computed via AdS/CFT techniques.

Deep inelastic scattering at strong coupling from gauge/string duality : the saturation line

For gauge theories which admit a dual string description, we analyze deep inelastic scattering at strong 't Hooft coupling and high energy, in the vicinity of the unitarity limit. We discuss the onset of unitarity corrections and determine the saturation line which separates weak scattering from strong scattering in the parameter space of rapidity and photon virtuality. We discover that the approach towards unitarity proceeds through two different mechanisms, depending upon the photon virtuality Q^2 : single Pomeron exchange at relatively low Q^2 and, respectively, multiple graviton exchanges at higher Q^2. This implies that the total cross-section at high energy and large Q^2 is dominated by diffractive processes. This is furthermore suggestive of a partonic description where all the partons have transverse momenta below the saturation momentum and occupation numbers of order one.

Deep inelastic scattering off a N=4 SYM plasma at strong coupling

By using the AdS/CFT correspondence we study the deep inelastic scattering of an R-current off a N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) plasma at finite temperature and strong coupling. Within the supergravity approximation valid when the number of colors is large, we compute the structure functions by solving Maxwell equations in the space-time geometry of the AdS_5 black three-brane. We find a rather sharp transition between a low energy regime where the scattering is weak and quasi-elastic, and a high-energy regime where the current is completely absorbed. The critical energy for this transition determines the plasma saturation momentum in terms of its temperature T and the Bjorken x variable: Q_s=T/x. These results suggest a partonic picture for the plasma where all the partons have transverse momenta below the saturation momentum and occupation numbers of order one.

Geometric Scaling in Mueller-Navelet Jets

We argue that the production of Mueller-Navelet jets at the LHC represents a convenient environment to study gluon saturation and high energy scattering in the presence of unitarity corrections. We show that, in a suitable range of transverse momenta for the produced jets, the cross section for the partonic subprocess should exhibit geometric scaling. We point out that, in the presence of a running coupling, the cross section for producing hard jets cannot be fully computed in perturbation theory, not even after taking into account the saturation effects: the non-perturbative physics affects the overall normalization of the cross section, but not also its geometric scaling behavior.

RpA ratio: total shadowing due to running coupling

We predict that the RpA ratio at the most forward rapidities to be measured at LHC should be strongly suppressed, close to "total shadowing'' (RpA = A^(-1/3)), as a consequence of running coupling effects in the nonlinear QCD evolution.

Thermal Dileptons at LHC

We predict dilepton invariant-mass spectra for central 5.5 ATeV Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. Hadronic emission in the low-mass region is calculated using in-medium spectral functions of light vector mesons within hadronic many-body theory. In the intermediate-mass region thermal radiation from the Quark-Gluon Plasma, evaluated perturbatively with hard-thermal loop corrections, takes over. An important source over the entire mass range are decays of correlated open-charm hadrons, rendering the nuclear modification of charm and bottom spectra a critical ingredient.

Pomeron loop and running coupling effects in high energy QCD evolution

Within the framework of a (1+1)-dimensional model which mimics evolution and scattering in QCD at high energy, we study the influence of the running of the coupling on the high-energy dynamics with Pomeron loops. We find that the particle number fluctuations are strongly suppressed by the running of the coupling, by at least one order of magnitude as compared to the case of a fixed coupling, for all the rapidities that we have investigated, up to Y=200. This reflects the slowing down of the evolution by running coupling effects, in particular, the large rapidity evolution which is required for the formation of the saturation front via diffusion. We conclude that, for all energies of interest, processes like deep inelastic scattering or forward particle production can be reliably studied within the framework of a mean-field approximation (like the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation) which includes running coupling effects.

Hard thermal loops and the entropy of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories

We apply the previously proposed scheme of approximately self-consistent hard-thermal-loop resummations in the entropy of high-temperature QCD to N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theories and compare with a (uniquely determined) R[4,4] Padé approximant that interpolates accurately between the known perturbative result and the next-to-leading order strong-coupling result obtained from AdS/CFT correspondence. We find good agreement up to couplings where the entropy has dropped to about 85% of the Stefan-Boltzmann value. This is precisely the regime which in purely gluonic QCD corresponds to temperatures above 2.5 times the deconfinement temperature and for which this method of hard-thermal-loop resummation has given similar good agreement with lattice QCD results. This suggests that in this regime the entropy of both QCD and N=4 SYM is dominated by effectively weakly coupled hard-thermal-loop quasiparticle degrees of freedom. In N=4 SYM, strong-coupling contributions to the thermodynamic potential take over when the entropy drops below 85% of the Stefan-Boltzmann value.

One-dimensional model for QCD at high energy

We propose a stochastic particle model in (1+1)-dimensions, with one dimension corresponding to rapidity and the other one to the transverse size of a dipole in QCD, which mimics high-energy evolution and scattering in QCD in the presence of both saturation and particle-number fluctuations, and hence of Pomeron loops. The model evolves via non-linear particle splitting, with a non-local splitting rate which is constrained by boost-invariance and multiple scattering. The splitting rate saturates at high density, so like the gluon emission rate in the JIMWLK evolution. In the mean field approximation obtained by ignoring fluctuations, the model exhibits the hallmarks of the BK equation, namely a BFKL-like evolution at low density, the formation of a traveling wave, and geometric scaling. In the full evolution including fluctuations, the geometric scaling is washed out at high energy and replaced by diffusive scaling. It is likely that the model belongs to the universality class of the reaction-diffusion process. The analysis of the model sheds new light on the Pomeron loops equations in QCD and their possible improvements.

A zero-dimensional model for high-energy scattering in QCD

We investigate a zero-dimensional toy model originally introduced by Mueller and Salam which mimics high-energy scattering in QCD in the presence of both gluon saturation and gluon number fluctuations, and hence of Pomeron loops. Unlike other toy models of the reaction-diffusion type, the model studied in this paper is consistent with boost invariance and, related to that, it exhibits a mechanism for particle saturation close to that of the JIMWLK equation in QCD, namely the saturation of the emission rate due to high-density effects. Within this model, we establish the dominant high-energy behaviour of the S-matrix element for the scattering between a target obtained by evolving one particle and a projectile made with exactly n particles. Remarkably, we find that all such matrix elements approach the black disk limit S=0 at high rapidity Y, with the same exponential law: ~ exp(-Y) for all values of n. This is so because the S-matrix is dominated by rare target configurations which involve only few particles. We also find that the bulk distribution for a saturated system is of the Poisson type.
