The uniqueness of the driven $\varphi_0$ Josephson junction: when steps are not Shapiro

The $\varphi_0$ superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor Josephson junction exhibits unique locking phenomena under the external periodic signal when the magnetic component is taken into account. Contrary to the well-known Shapiro steps that come from the locking with the electric component, locking of the Josephson oscillations with the magnetic one results in the appearance of Buzdin steps in the current-voltage characteristic and a much more complex response of the system. These steps possess distinctive properties that are indications of their unique origins and locking mechanisms. The width of the Buzdin step oscillates with the amplitude of the magnetic component, nevertheless, it exhibits anomalies in the Bessel-like behavior. In addition, we perform an analytical analysis that supports the numerical results and shows that the width of the Buzdin step represents a product of two Bessel functions. Investigation of the effects that simultaneously appear in the magnetic subsystem reveals the presence of destructive interference and magnetization reorientation that accompany the appearance of Buzdin steps.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating tau decays to $\ell\alpha$ at Belle

We report a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays $\tau^{\pm}\to\ell^{\pm}\alpha$~($\ell=e,\mu$), where $\alpha$ is an undetected spin-0 particle, such as an axion-like particle using $736\times10^{6}$ tau lepton pairs collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We find no evidence of signal and obtain the most stringent upper limits on the branching fractions at 95\% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}(\tau^{\pm}\rightarrow e^{\pm}\alpha)$ $<$ $(0.4$--$6.4)\times10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\tau^{\pm}\rightarrow \mu^{\pm}\alpha)$ $<$ $(0.2$--$3.5)\times10^{-4}$ at 95\% confidence level for an $\alpha$ mass in the range $0.0\leq m_{\alpha}\leq 1.6$~GeV/$c^{2}$.

Search for $h_b(2P)\to\gamma\chi_{bJ}(1P)$ at $\sqrt{s} = 10.860$ GeV

In the bottomonium sector, the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transitions between P-wave states $h_b(2P) \rightarrow \chi_{bJ}(1P) \gamma$, $J=0, \, 1, \, 2$, are expected to be severely suppressed according to the Relativized Quark Model, due to the spin flip of the $b$ quark. Nevertheless, a recent model following the coupled-channel approach predicts the corresponding branching fractions to be enhanced by orders of magnitude. In this Letter, we report the first search for such transitions. We find no significant signals and set upper limits at 90% CL on the corresponding branching fractions: $\mathcal{B}[h_b(2P)\to\gamma\chi_{b0}(1P)] < 2.7 \times 10^{-1}$, $\mathcal{B}[h_b(2P)\to\gamma\chi_{b1}(1P)] < 5.4 \times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}[h_b(2P)\to\gamma\chi_{b2}(1P)] < 1.3 \times 10^{-2}$. These values help to constrain the parameters of the coupled-channel models. The results are obtained using a $121.4 \, fb^{-1}$ data sample taken around $\sqrt{s}= 10.860 \, GeV$ with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Evidence of $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to \Upsilon(\text{1S})\eta$ decay and search for $h_{b}(\text{1P,2P}) \to \Upsilon(\text{1S})\pi^0$ with the Belle detector

We report the first evidence for the $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to \Upsilon(\text{1S})\eta$ transition with a significance of $3.5$ standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to \Upsilon(\text{1S})\eta]=(7.1 ~^{+3.7} _{-3.2}\pm 0.8)\times10^{-3}$, which is noticeably smaller than expected. We also set upper limits on $\pi^0$ transitions of $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to \Upsilon(\text{1S})\pi^0] < 1.8\times10^{-3}$, and $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{1P})\to \Upsilon(\text{1S})\pi^0] < 1.8\times10^{-3}$, at the $90\%$ confidence level. These results are obtained with a $131.4$~fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected near the $\Upsilon(\text{5S})$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Study of $\chi_{bJ}(2P)\to\omega\Upsilon(1S)$ at Belle

We report a study of the hadronic transitions $\chi_{bJ}(2P)\to\omega\Upsilon(1S)$, with $\omega\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$, using $28.2\times10^6~\Upsilon(3S)$ mesons recorded by the Belle detector. We present the first evidence for the near--threshold transition $\chi_{b0}(2P)\to\omega\Upsilon(1S)$, the analog of the near-threshold charm sector decay $\chi_{c1}(3872)\to\omega J/\psi$, with a branching fraction of $\cal{B}\big(\chi_{b0}(2P)\to\omega\Upsilon(1S)\big) = \big(0.55\pm0.19\pm0.07\big)\%$. We also obtain branching fractions of $\cal{B}\big(\chi_{b1}(2P)\to\omega\Upsilon(1S)\big) = \big(2.39{}^{+0.20}_{-0.19}\pm0.24\big)\%$ and $\cal{B}\big(\chi_{b2}(2P)\to\omega\Upsilon(1S)\big) = \big(0.47{}^{+0.13}_{-0.12}\pm0.06\big)\%$, confirming the measurement of the $\omega$ transitions of the $J=1,2~P$--wave states. The ratio for the $J=2$ to $J=1$ transitions is also measured and found to differ by 3.3 standard deviations from the expected value in the QCD multipole expansion.

Search for charmed baryons in the $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ system and measurement of the branching fractions of $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ and $pD^0$ relative to $\Sigma_c(2455)\pi$

We search for excited charmed baryons in the $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ mass spectrum, including the known $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$. Clear $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ signals are observed in the $pD^0$ mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90\% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ relative to $\Sigma_c(2455)\pi$ of $<0.13$ for the $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $<1.11$ for the $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$. We measure ratios of branching fractions of $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $pD^0$ relative to $\Sigma_c(2455)\pi$ of $0.75 \pm 0.03(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.07(\text{syst.})$ for the $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $3.59 \pm 0.21(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.56(\text{syst.})$ for the $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$.

We report the results of the first search for Standard Model and baryon-number-violating two-body decays of the neutral $B$ mesons to $\Lambda^{0}$ and $\Omega^{(*)0}_c$ using 711~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of data collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. We observe no evidence of signal from any such decays and set 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the products of $B^0$ and $\bar{B}^0$ branching fractions for these two-body decays with $\mathcal{B}(\Omega_{c}^{0} \to \pi^+ \Omega^-)$ in the range between 9.5~$\times 10^{-8}$ and 31.2~$\times 10^{-8}$.

Angular analysis of $B \to K^* e^+ e^-$ in the low-$q^2$ region with new electron identification at Belle

We perform an angular analysis of the $B\to K^* e^+ e^-$ decay for the dielectron mass squared, $q^2$, range of $0.0008$ to $1.1200 ~\text{GeV}^2 /c^4$ using the full Belle data set in the $K^{*0} \to K^+ \pi^-$ and $K^{*+} \to K_S^0 \pi^+$ channels, incorporating new methods of electron identification to improve the statistical power of the data set. This analysis is sensitive to contributions from right-handed currents from physics beyond the Standard Model by constraining the Wilson coefficients $\mathcal{C}_7^{(\prime)}$. We perform a fit to the $B\to K^* e^+ e^-$ differential decay rate and measure the imaginary component of the transversality amplitude to be $A_T^{\rm Im} = -1.27 \pm 0.52 \pm 0.12$, and the $K^*$ transverse asymmetry to be $A_T^{(2)} = 0.52 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.11$, with $F_L$ and $A_T^{\rm Re}$ fixed to the Standard Model values. The resulting constraints on the value of $\mathcal{C}_7^{\prime}$ are consistent with the Standard Model within a $2\sigma$ confidence interval.

Search for a pentaquark state decaying into $pJ/\psi$ in $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ inclusive decays at Belle

Using the data samples of 102 million $\Upsilon(1S)$ and 158 million $\Upsilon(2S)$ events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the $pJ/\psi$ final state from $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate $\bar{p}J/\psi$ is included. We observe clear $pJ/\psi$ production in $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ decays and measure the branching fractions to be $B[\Upsilon(1S) \to pJ/\psi + anything] = [8.1 \pm 0.6(stat.) \pm 0.5(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$ and $B[\Upsilon(2S) \to pJ/\psi + anything] = [4.3 \pm 0.5(stat.) \pm 0.4(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$. We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/\psi$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $\sigma(e^+e^- \to pJ/\psi + anything) = [108 \pm 11 (stat.) \pm 6(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. There is no significant $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ or $P_c(4457)^+$ signal found in the $pJ/\psi$ final states in $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of $B[\Upsilon(1,2S)\to P_c^{+} + anything] \cdot B(P_c^{+}\to pJ/\psi)$ to be at the $10^{-6}$ level.

Buzdin, Shapiro and Chimera Steps in $\varphi_0$ Josephson Junctions. II. Bifurcation, Switching, and Hysteresis

The dynamics of magnetization and current-voltage characteristics of the superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor $\varphi_0$ Josephson junction in the presence of external electromagnetic radiation have been studied. Effects of radiation magnetic component are investigated in the frameworks of one- and two-signal models. The implementation of two types of dynamical states of magnetization is demonstrated. These states have a phase shift of $\pi$ in the synchronization region of magnetic precession and Josephson oscillations and differ in the nature of their time dependence. Transitions between these states with increasing and decreasing bias current show hysteresis, which is reflected in the bifurcation diagram and the current-voltage characteristics. We also provide an experimental way to test the obtained results by measuring the phase shift in voltage temporal dependence at fixed current value for both sweeping directions. The results obtained can find application in various fields of superconducting spintronics and quantum computing.

Measurements of the branching fraction, polarization, and $CP$ asymmetry for the decay $B^0\rightarrow \omega \omega$

We present a measurement of $B^{0} \rightarrow \omega \omega$, a charmless decay into two vector mesons, using 772 $\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The decay is observed with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction $\mathcal{B} = (1.53 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.17) \times 10^{-6}$, a fraction of longitudinal polarization $f_L = 0.87 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.13$, and a time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry $A_{CP}$ = $-0.44 \pm 0.43 \pm 0.11$, where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first observation of $B^{0} \rightarrow \omega \omega$, and the first measurements of $f_L$ and $A_{CP}$ for this decay.

Search for Baryon-Number-Violating Processes in $B^-$ Decays to the $\bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-}$ Final State

We report the results of the first search for $B^-$ decays to the $\bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-}$ final state using 711~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of data collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating $B^-$ decay and $\Xi_{c}^{0}-\bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0}$ oscillations which follow the Standard Model decay $B^- \to \Xi_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-}$. We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and Standard Model branching fractions ${\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow \bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-})}/{\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow \Xi_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-})}$ to be $< 2.7\%$ and on the $\Xi_{c}^{0} - \bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0}$ oscillation angular frequency $\omega$ to be $< 0.76\ \mathrm{ps}^{-1}$ (equivalent to $\tau_{\rm mix} > 1.3$~ps).

Search for the semileptonic decays $\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^0\ell^+\ell^-$ at Belle

Using the full data sample of 980 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider, we report the results of the first search for the rare semileptonic decays $\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^0\ell^+\ell^-$ ($\ell=e$ or $\mu)$. No significant signals are observed in the $\Xi^0\ell^+\ell^-$ invariant-mass distributions. Taking the decay $\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^- \pi^+$ as the normalization mode, we report 90\% credibility upper limits on the branching fraction ratios ${\cal{B}} (\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^0 e^+ e^-) / {\cal{B}}(\Xi_c^0\to \Xi^-\pi^+) < 6.7 \times 10^{-3}$ and ${\cal{B}} (\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^0 \mu^+ \mu^-) / {\cal{B}}(\Xi_c^0\to \Xi^-\pi^+) < 4.3 \times 10^{-3}$ based on the phase-space assumption for signal decays. The 90\% credibility upper limits on the absolute branching fractions of ${\cal{B}} (\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^0 e^+ e^-)$ and ${\cal{B}} (\Xi_c^0 \to \Xi^0 \mu^+ \mu^-)$ are found to be $9.9 \times 10^{-5}$ and $6.5 \times 10^{-5}$, respectively.

Search for the decay $B_s^0\to J/\psi\pi^0$ at Belle experiment

This result is the most stringent, improving the previous bound by two orders of magnitude.

Measurement of the Ratio of Partial Branching Fractions of Inclusive $\overline{B} \to X_u \ell \overline{\nu}$ to $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$ and the Ratio of their Spectra with Hadronic Tagging

We present a measurement of the ratio of partial branching fractions of the semi-leptonic inclusive decays, $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ to $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$, where $\ell = (e, \mu)$, using the full Belle sample of $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B \kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. The ratio is measured via a two-dimensional fit to the squared four-momentum transfer to the lepton pair, and the charged lepton energy in the $B$ meson rest frame, where the latter must be larger than $1$ Ge\kern -0.1em V, covering approximately $86\%$ and $78\%$ of the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$ phase space, respectively. We find $\Delta \mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu})/ \Delta \mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}) = (1.99 \pm 0.17_{\rm stat} \pm 0.16_{\rm syst}) \times 10^{-2}$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, we report the partial branching fractions separately for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays, and for electron and muon decay channels. We place a limit on isospin breaking in $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ decays, and find no indication of lepton flavor universality violation in either the charmed or charmless mode. Furthermore, we unfold the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$ yields and report the differential ratio in lepton energy and four-momentum transfer squared.

Measurement of Angular Coefficients of $\bar{B} \to D^* \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$: Implications for $|V_{cb}|$ and Tests of Lepton Flavor Universality

We measure the complete set of angular coefficients $J_i$ for exclusive $\bar{B} \to D^* \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ decays ($\ell = e, \mu$). Our analysis uses the full $711\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ Belle data set with hadronic tag-side reconstruction. The results allow us to extract the form factors describing the $B \to D^*$ transition and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{\rm cb}|$. Using recent lattice QCD calculations for the hadronic form factors, we find $|V_{\rm cb}| = (41.0 \pm 0.7) \times 10^3 $ using the BGL parameterization, compatible with determinations from inclusive semileptonic decays. We search for lepton flavor universality violation as a function of the hadronic recoil parameter $w$, and investigate the differences of the electron and muon angular distributions. We find no deviation from Standard Model expectations.

Buzdin, Shapiro and Chimera Steps in $\varphi_0$ Josephson Junctions

The unique resonance and locking phenomena in the superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor $\varphi_0$ Josephson junction under external electromagnetic radiation are demonstrated when not just the electric but also the magnetic component of external radiation is taken into account. Due to the coupling of superconductivity and magnetism in this system, the magnetic moment precession of the ferromagnetic layer caused by the magnetic component of external radiation can lock the Josephson oscillations, which results in the appearance of a particular type of steps in the current-voltage characteristics, completely different from the well-known Shapiro steps. We call these steps the Buzdin steps in the case when the system is driven only by the magnetic component and the Chimera steps in the case when both magnetic and electric components are present. Unlike the Shapiro steps where the magnetization remains constant along the step, here it changes though the system is locked. The spin-orbit coupling substantially contributes to the amplitude, i.e., the size of these steps. Dramatic changes in their amplitudes are also observed at frequencies near the ferromagnetic resonance. Combinations of the Josephson and Kittel ferromagnetic resonances together with different types of locking pronounced in dynamics and current-voltage characteristics make the physics of this system very interesting and open up a series of new applications.
