Inclusive gluon production in the dipole approach: AGK cutting rules

We consider single gluon production in the dipole model and reproduce the result of Kovchegov and Tuchin for the adjoint (gluonic) dipole structure of the inclusive cross section. We show the validity of the adjoint dipole structure to any order of evolution deriving and solving the non-linear evolution for the non-diagonal cross section of a dipole scattering off the target. The form of the solution to this equation restores the dipole interpretation for non-diagonal cross sections, that appear in gluon production. Using this formalism, we analyse the single inclusive production cross section in terms of the contributions of different multiplicities, and we derive the Abramovskii-Gribov-Kancheli(AGK) cutting rules for two Pomeron exchange. The cutting rules, which were found in this formalism, fully reproduce the original AGK rules for the total cross section. However, for the case of gluon production, the AGK rules are violated already for one gluon emission from the vertex.

A QCD motivated model for soft interactions at high energies

In this paper we develop an approach to soft scattering processes at high energies, which is based on two mechanisms: Good-Walker mechanism for low mass diffractionand multi-Pomeron interactions for high mass diffraction. The pricipal idea, that allows us to specify the theory for Pomeron interactions, is that the so called soft processes occur at rather short distances ($r^2 \propto 1 / ^2 \propto α'_\pom \approx 0.01 GeV^{-2}$), where perturbative QCD is valid. The value of the Pomeron slope $α'_\pom $ was obtained from the fit to experimental data. Using this theoretical approach we suggest a model that fits all soft data in the ISR-Tevatron energy range, the total, elastic, single and double diffractive cross sections, including $t$ dependence of the differential elastic cross section, and the mass dependence of single diffraction. In this model we calculate the survival probability of diffractive Higgs production, and obtained a value for this observable, which is smaller than 1% at the LHC energy range.

A Study of Soft Interactions at Ultra High Energies

We present and discuss our recent study of an eikonal two channel model, in which we reproduce the soft total, integrated elastic and diffractive cross sections, and the corresponding forward differential slopes in the ISR-Tevatron energy range. Our study is extended to provide predictions at the LHC and Cosmic Rays ene$ These are utilized to assess the role of unitarity at ultra high energies, as well as predict the implied survival probability of exclusive diffractiv$ central production of a light Higgs. Our approach is critically examined so as to estimate the margins of error of the calculated survival probability for diffractive Higgs production

Two parton shower background for associate W Higgs production

The estimates of the background for the associate W Higgs production, which stems from the two parton shower production. It is about 1 - 2.5 times larger than the signal. However, this background does not depend on the rapidity difference between the W and the $b \bar{b}$ pair, while the signal peaks when the rapidity difference is zero. The detailed calculations for the enhanced diagrams' contribution to this process, are presented, and it is shown that the overlapping singularities, being important theoretically, lead to a negligible contribution for the LHC range of energies

Central exclusive diffractive Higgs boson production in hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC

In this paper, it is shown that in hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, the main source for central exclusive diffractive Higgs production is photon-photon fusion. At the LHC energy, the total cross section for this process is about 0.6 pb (for proton-gold scattering), and 3.9 nb (for gold-gold collision) while the gluon-gluon fusion leads to the value of the cross section for CED Higgs production which is about 0.1 nb and 3.9 pb respectively.

A Soft Interaction Model at Ultra High Energies: Amplitudes, Cross Sections and Survival Probabilities

In this paper we present a two channel model with the goal of reproducing the soft scattering data available in the ISR-Tevatron energy range, and extend the model results to LHC and Cosmic Rays energies. A characteristic feature of the model is that we represent the sum of all diffractive final states at a vertex, by a single diffractive state. Our two main results are: (i) The approach of the elastic scattering amplitude to the black disc bound is very slow, reaching it at energies far higher than the GZK ankle cutoff. (ii) Our predicted survival probability for Higgs exclusive central diffractive production at the LHC is 0.7%, which is considerably smaller than our previous estimate. The above features are compatible with a parton-like model in which the traditional soft Pomeron is replaced by an amplitude describing the partonic system, which issaturated in the soft (long distance) limit.

Summing Pomeron loops in the dipole approach

In this paper we argue that in the kinematic range given by $ 1 \ll \ln(1/\as^2) \ll \as Y \ll \frac{1}{\as}$, we can reduce the Pomeron calculus to the exchange of non-interacting Pomerons with the renormalized amplitude of their interaction with the target. Therefore, the summation of the Pomeron loops can be performed using the improved Mueller, Patel, Salam and Iancu approximation and this leads to the geometrical scaling solution. This solution is found for the simplified BFKL kernel. We reproduce the findings of Hatta and Mueller that there are overlapping singularities. We suggest a way of dealing with these singularities.

Survival probability for high mass diffraction

Based on the calculation of survival probabilities, we discuss the problem of extracting the value of $G_{3P}$, the triple Pomeron 'bare' coupling constant, by comparing the large rapidity gap single high mass diffraction data in proton-proton scattering and $J/Ψ$ photo and DIS production. For p-p scattering the calculation in a three amplitude rescattering eikonal model, predicts the survival probability to be an order of magnitude smaller than for the two amplitude case. The survival probabilities calculation for photo and DIS $J/Ψ$ production is made in a dedicated model. In this process we show that, even though its survival probability is considerably larger than in p-p scattering, its value is below unity and cannot be neglected in the data analysis. We argue that, regardless of the uncertainties in the suggested procedure, its outcome is important both with regards to a realistic estimate of $G_{3P}$, and the survival probabilities relevant to LHC experiments.

Thermal Dileptons at LHC

We predict dilepton invariant-mass spectra for central 5.5 ATeV Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. Hadronic emission in the low-mass region is calculated using in-medium spectral functions of light vector mesons within hadronic many-body theory. In the intermediate-mass region thermal radiation from the Quark-Gluon Plasma, evaluated perturbatively with hard-thermal loop corrections, takes over. An important source over the entire mass range are decays of correlated open-charm hadrons, rendering the nuclear modification of charm and bottom spectra a critical ingredient.

The BFKL Pomeron Calculus in the dipole approach

In this paper we continue to pursue a goal of finding an effective theory for high energy interaction in QCD based on the colour dipole approach, for which the BFKL Pomeron Calculus gives a low energy limit. The key problem, that we try to solve in this paper is the probabilistic interpretation of the BFKL Pomeron Calculus in terms of the colourless dipoles and their interactions. We demonstrate that the BFKL Pomeron Calculus has two equivalent descriptions : (i) one is the generating functional which gives a clear probabilistic interpretation of the processes of high energy scattering and also provides a Hamiltonian-like description of the system of interacting dipoles; (ii) the second is the Langevin equation with a specific noise term which is rather complicated. We found that at high energies this Langevin equation can be reduced to the Langevin equation for directed percolation in the momentum space if the impact parameter is large, namely, $b>> 1/k$, where $k$ is the transverse momentum of a dipole. Unfortunately, this simplified form of Langevin equation is not applicable for summation of Pomeron loops, where one integrates over all possible values of impact parameter. We show that the BFKL Pomeron calculus with two vertices (splitting $P\to P+P$ and merging $P+P\to P$ of Pomerons) can be interpreted as a system of colourless dipoles with two processes: the decay of one dipole into two and the merging of two dipoles into one dipole. However, a number of assumptions we have to make on the way to simplify the noise term in the Langevin equation and/or to apply the probabilistic interpretation, therefore, we can consider both of these approaches in the present form only as the QCD motivated models.

The BFKL Pomeron Calculus in zero transverse dimensions: summation of Pomeron loops and generating functional for the multiparticle production processes

In this paper we address two problems in the BFKL Pomeron calculus in zero transverse dimensions: the summation of the Pomeron loops and the calculation of the processes of multiparticle generation. We introduce a new generating functional for these processes and obtain the evolution equation for it. We argue that in the kinematic range given by $ 1 \ll \ln(1/\as^2) \ll \as Y \ll \frac{1}{\as}$, we can reduce the Pomeron calculus to exchange of non-interacting Pomerons with the renormalized amplitude of their interaction with the target. Therefore, the summation of the Pomeron loops can be performed using Mueller, Patel, Salam and Iancu approximation.

A geometrical scaling solution to the BFKL Pomeron Calculus in the saturation domain

In this paper the exact analytical solution is found for the BFKL Pomeron calculus in QCD, in which all Pomeron loops have been included. This solution manifests the geometrical scaling behaviour and matches with the solution to the linear evolution equation on the line $r^2= 1/Q^2_s(x)$, where $r$ is the dipole size and $Q_s$ is the saturation momentum.

The BFKL Pomeron Calculus in zero transverse dimensions: diffractive processes and survival probability for central diffractive production

In this paper we discuss the processes of diffractive production in the framework of the BFKL Pomeron calculus in zero transverse dimension. Considering the diffractive production of a bunch of particles with not very large masses, namely, $\ln\Lb M^2/m^2 \Rb \ll \frac{1}{\bas} \ln\Lb \frac{N^2_c}{\bas^2}\Rb$, we found explicit formulae for calculation of the cross sections for the single and double diffractive production as well as for the value of the survival probability for the diffractive central production. These formulae include the influence of the correlations due to so called Pomeron loops on the values of all discussed observables. The comparison with the other approaches on the market is given. The main conclusion of this comparison: the Mueller-Patel-Salam-Iancu approximation gives sufficiently good descriptions and close to the exact result for elastic and diffractive cross section but considerable overshoot the value of the survival probability.

Solution for the BFKL Pomeron Calculus in zero transverse dimensions

In this paper the exact analytical solution is found for the BFKL Pomeron calculus in zero transverse dimensions, in which all Pomeron loops have been included. The comparison with the approximate methods of the solution is given, and the kinematic regions are discussed where they describe the behaviour of the scattering amplitude quite well. In particular, the semi-classical approach is considered, which reproduces the main properties of the exact solution at large values of rapidity ($Y \geq 10$). It is shown that the mean field approximation leads to a good description of the scattering amplitude only if the amplitude at low energy is rather large. However, even in this case, it does not lead to the correct asymptotic behaviour of the scattering amplitude at high energies.

Survival probability for exclusive central diffractive production of colorless states at the LHC

In this paper we discuss the survival probability for exclusive central diffractive production of a colorless small size system at the LHC. This process has a clear signature of two large rapidity gaps. Using the eikonal approach for the description of soft interactions, we predict the value of the survival probability to be about 5~6% for single channel models, while for a two channel model the survival probability is about 3%. The dependence of the survival probability factor (damping factor) on the transverse momenta of the recoiled protons is discussed, and we suggest it be measured at the Tevatron so as to minimize the possible ambiguity in the calculation of survival probability at the LHC.
