Control of photon correlations in type II parametric down-conversion

In this paper we describe theoretically quantum control of temporal correlations of entangled photons produced by collinear type II spontaneous parametric down-conversion. We examine the effect of spectral phase modulation of the signal or idler photons arriving at a 50/50 beam splitter on the temporal shape of the entangled-photon wave packet . The coincidence count rate is calculated analytically for photon pairs in terms of the modulation depth applied to either the signal or idler beam with a spectral phase filter. It is found that the two-photon coincidence rate can be controlled by varying the modulation depth of the spectral filter.

Optimal coupling of entangled photons into single-mode optical fibers

We present a consistent multimode theory that describes the coupling of single photons generated by collinear Type-I parametric down-conversion into single-mode optical fibers. We have calculated an analytic expression for the fiber diameter which maximizes the pair photon count rate. For a given focal length and wavelength, a lower limit of the fiber diameter for satisfactory coupling is obtained.

Polaron effective mass from Monte Carlo simulations

A new Monte Carlo algorithm for calculating polaron effective mass is proposed. It is based on the path-integral representation of a partial partition function with fixed total quasi-momentum. Phonon degrees of freedom are integrated out analytically resulting in a single-electron system with retarded self-interaction and open boundary conditions in imaginary time. The effective mass is inversely proportional to the covariance of total energy calculated on an electron trajectory and the square distance between ends of the trajectory. The method has no limitations on values of model parameters and on the size and dimensionality of the system although large statistics is required for stable numerical results. The method is tested on the one-dimensional Holstein model for which simulation results are presented.

Frequency-dependent spin susceptibility in the two-dimensional Hubbard model

A Quantum Monte Carlo calculation of dynamical spin susceptibility in the half-filled 2D Hubbard model is presented for temperature $T=0.2t$ and an intermediate on-site repulsion $U=4t$. Using the singular value decomposition technique we succeed in analytically continuing the Matsubara Green's function into the real frequency domain and in deriving the spectral representation for the longitudinal and transverse spin susceptibility. The simulation results, while contradicting the random-phase approximation prediction of antiferromagnetic long-range order at this temperature, are in agreement with an extension of a self-consistent renormalization approach of Moriya. The static susceptibility calculated using this technique is qualitatively consistent with the $ω\rightarrow 0 $ simulation results.

Singularity of the density of states in the two-dimensional Hubbard model from finite size scaling of Yang-Lee zeros

A finite size scaling is applied to the Yang-Lee zeros of the grand canonical partition function for the 2-D Hubbard model in the complex chemical potential plane. The logarithmic scaling of the imaginary part of the zeros with the system size indicates a singular dependence of the carrier density on the chemical potential. Our analysis points to a second-order phase transition with critical exponent ${1\over δ}={1\over 2}\pm {1\over 3}$ which leads to a divergence of the electronic susceptibility. We interprete these results as reflecting singular behaviour of the density of states in the quasiparticle spectrum.

Spectral weight function for the half-filled Hubbard model: a singular value decomposition approach

The singular value decomposition technique is used to reconstruct the electronic spectral weight function for a half-filled Hubbard model with on-site repulsion $U=4t$ from Quantum Monte Carlo data. A two-band structure for the single-particle excitation spectrum is found to persist as the lattice size exceeds the spin-spin correlation length. The observed bands are flat in the vicinity of the $(0,π),(π,0)$ points in the Brillouin zone, in accordance with experimental data for high-temperature superconducting compounds.
