Counting curves of any genus on P^2_7

We compute Gromov-Witten invariants of any genus for del Pezzo surfaces of degree $\ge2$. The genus zero invariants have been computed a long ago, Gromov-Witten invariants of any genus for del Pezzo surfaces of degree $\ge3$ have been found by Vakil. We solve the problem in two steps: (1) we consider the plane blown up at 6 points on a conic and one more point outside this conic (weak Fano surface), and, using techniques of tropical geometry, obtain a Caporaso-Harris type formula counting curves of any divisor class and genus subject to arbitrary tangency conditions with respect to the blown up conic, (2) then we express the Gromov-Witten invariants of the plane blown up at 7 points via enumerative invariants of the weak Fano surface, using Vakil's version of Abramovich-Bertram formula.

Counting curves of any genus on P^2_6

We obtain a formula for the degrees of the varieties parameterizing complex algebraic curves of any divisor class and genus on P^2_6, the projective plane blown-up at 6 generic points. Moreover, the formula computes the degrees of the varieties parameterizing curves on P^2_6 which additionally satisfy certain tangency conditions to a fixed exceptional divisor on P^2_6. Our formula contains as special cases the degrees of the analogous varieties parameterizing curves on P^2_q, for q=1,...,5, and on the quadric (P^1)^2. It is an extension of the Caporaso-Harris formula counting curves of any degree and genus in the projective plane, and it can be viewed as an alternative to the Vakil formula, which gives an indirect way to count curves of any genus on P^2_6.

Idempotent Semigroups and Tropical Algebraic Sets

The tropical semifield, i.e., the real numbers enhanced by the operations of addition and maximum, serves as a base of tropical mathematics. Addition is an abelian group operation, whereas the maximum defines an idempotent semigroup structure. We address the question of the geometry of idempotent semigroups, in particular, tropical algebraic sets carrying the structure of a commutative idempotent semigroup. We show that commutative idempotent semigroups are contractible, that systems of tropical polynomials, formed from univariate monomials, define subsemigroups with respect to coordinate-wise tropical addition (maximum); and, finally, we prove that the subsemigroups in the Euclidean space, which are tropical hypersurfaces or tropical curves in the plane or in the three-space, have the above polynomial description.

A tropical calculation of the Welschinger invariants of real toric Del Pezzo surfaces

The Welschinger invariants of real rational algebraic surfaces are natural analogues of the genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants. We establish a tropical formula to calculate the Welschinger invariants of real toric Del Pezzo surfaces for any conjugation-invariant configuration of points. The formula expresses the Welschinger invariants via the total multiplicity of certain tropical curves (non-Archimedean amoebas) passing through generic configurations of points, and then via the total multiplicity of some lattice path in the convex lattice polygon associated with a given surface. We also present the results of computation of Welschinger invariants, obtained jointly with I. Itenberg and V. Kharlamov.

Welschinger invariants of toric Del Pezzo surfaces with non-standard real structures

The Welschinger invariants of real rational algebraic surfaces are natural analogues of the Gromov-Witten invariants, and they estimate from below the number of real rational curves passing through prescribed configurations of points. We establish a tropical formula for the Welschinger invariants of four toric Del Pezzo surfaces, equipped with a non-standard real structure. Such a formula for real toric Del Pezzo surfaces with a standard real structure (i.e., naturally compatible with the toric structure) was established by Mikhalkin and the author. As a consequence we prove that, for any real ample divisor $D$ on a surfaces $Σ$ under consideration, through any generic configuration of $c_1(Σ)D-1$ generic real points there passes a real rational curve belonging to the linear system $|D|$.

Logarithmic equivalence of Welschinger and Gromov-Witten invariants

The Welschinger numbers, a kind of a real analog of the Gromov-Witten numbers which count the complex rational curves through a given generic collection of points, bound from below the number of real rational curves for any real generic collection of points. By the logarithmic equivalence of sequences we mean the asymptotic equivalence of their logarithms. We prove such an equivalence for the Welschinger and Gromov-Witten numbers of any toric Del Pezzo surface with its tautological real structure, in particular, of the projective plane, under the hypothesis that all, or almost all, chosen points are real. We also study the positivity of Welschinger numbers and their monotonicity with respect to the number of imaginary points.

Welschinger invariant and enumeration of real plane rational curves

Welschinger's invariant bounds from below the number of real rational curves through a given generic collection of real points in the real projective plane. We estimate this invariant using Mikhalkin's approach which deals with a corresponding count of tropical curves. In particular, our estimate implies that, for any positive integer $d$, there exists a real rational curve of degree $d$ through any collection of $3d-1$ real points in the projective plane, and, moreover, asymptotically in the logarithmic scale at least one third of the complex plane rational curves through a generic point collection are real. We also obtain similar results for curves on other toric Del Pezzo surfaces.
