Relativistic two-body calculation of $b\bar{b}$-mesons radiative decays

This paper is a prosecution of a previous work where we presented a unified two-fermion covariant scheme which produced very precise results for the masses of light and heavy mesons. We extend the analysis to some radiative decays of mesons $Υ,\,χ_{b2}\,,h_b\,,χ_{b1}\,,χ_{b0}\,,η_b\,$ and we calculate their branching ratios and their widths. For most of them we can make a comparison with experimental data finding a good agreement. For the decays for which data are not available we compare ours with other recent theoretical previsions.

Relativistic two fermion treatment of hyperfine transitions

A system of two fermions with different masses and interacting by the Coulomb potential is presented in a completely covariant framework. The spin-spin interaction, including the anomalous magnetic moments of the two fermions, is added by means of a Breit term. We solve the resulting fourth order differential system by evaluating the spectrum and the eigenfunctions. The interaction vertex with an external electromagnetic field is then determined. The relativistic eigenfunctions are used to study the photon emission from a hyperfine transition and are checked for the calculation of the Lamb shift due to the electron vacuum polarization in the muonic Hydrogen.

Unified covariant treatment of hyperfine splitting for heavy and light mesons

This paper aims at proving the fundamental role of a relativistic formulation for quarkonia models. We present a completely covariant description of a two-quark system interacting by the Cornell potential with a Breit term describing the hyperfine splitting. Using an appropriate procedure to calculate the Breit correction, we find heavy meson masses in excellent agreement with experimental data. Moreover, also when applied to light quarks and even taking average values of the running coupling constant, we prove that covariance properties and hyperfine splitting are sufficient to explain the light mesons spectrum and to give a very good agreement with the data.

States of the Dirac equation in confining potentials

We study the Dirac equation in confining potentials with pure vector coupling, proving the existence of metastable states with longer and longer lifetimes as the non-relativistic limit is approached and eventually merging with continuity into the Schrödinger bound states. We believe that the existence of these states could be relevant in high energy model construction and in understanding possible resonant scattering effects in systems like Graphene. We present numerical results for the linear and the harmonic cases and we show that the the density of the states of the continuous spectrum is well described by a sum of Breit-Wigner lines. The width of the line with lowest positive energy, as expected, reproduces very well the Schwinger pair production rate for a linear potential: we thus suggest a different way of obtaining informations on the pair production in unbounded, non uniform electric fields, where very little is known.

Two fermion relativistic bound states: hyperfine shifts

We discuss the hyperfine shifts of the Positronium levels in a relativistic framework, starting from a two fermion wave equation where, in addition to the Coulomb potential, the magnetic interaction between spins is described by a Breit term. We write the system of four first order differential equations describing this model. We discuss its mathematical features, mainly in relation to possible singularities that may appear at finite values of the radial coordinate. We solve the boundary value problems both in the singular and non singular cases and we develop a perturbation scheme, well suited for numerical computations, that allows to calculate the hyperfine shifts for any level, according to well established physical arguments that the Breit term must be treated at the first perturbative order. We discuss our results, comparing them with the corresponding values obtained from semi-classical expansions.

Two fermion relativistic bound states

We consider the relativistic quantum mechanics of a two interacting fermions system. We first present a covariant formulation of the kinematics of the problem and give a short outline of the classical results. We then quantize the system with a general interaction potential and deduce the explicit equations in a spherical basis. The case of the Coulomb interaction is studied in detail by numerical methods, solving the eigenvalue problem for J=0, J=1, J=2 and determining the spectral curves for a varying ratio of the mass of the interacting particles. Details of the computations, together with a perturbative approach in the mass ratio and an extended description of the ground states of the Para- and Orthopositronium are given in Appendix.

The coisotropic subgroup structure of SL_q(2,R)

We study the coisotropic subgroup structure of standard SL_q(2,R) and the corresponding embeddable quantum homogeneous spaces. While the subgroups S^1 and R_+ survive undeformed in the quantization as coalgebras, we show that R is deformed to a family of quantum coisotropic subgroups whose coalgebra can not be extended to an Hopf algebra. We explicitly describe the quantum homogeneous spaces and their double cosets.

Unitarity of induced representations from coisotropic quantum groups

We study unitarity of the induced representations from coisotropic quantum subgroups which were introduced in math.QA/9804138. We define a real structure on coisotropic subgroups which determines an involution on the homogeneous space. We give general invariance properties for functionals on the homogeneous space which are sufficient to build a unitary representation starting from the induced one. We present the case of the one-dimensional quantum Galilei group, where we have to use in all enerality our definition of quasi-invariant functional.

Induced representations of the one dimensional quantum Galilei group

We study the representations of the quantum Galilei group by a suitable generalization of the Kirillov method on spaces of non commutative functions. On these spaces we determine a quasi-invariant measure with respect to the action of the quantum group by which we discuss unitary and irreducible representations. The latter are equivalent to representations on \ell^2, i.e. on the space of square summable functions on a one dimensional lattice.

Cohomological Properties of Differential Calculi on Hopf Algebras

In this report we give an intrinsic treatment of the results we developed in a previous work connecting the differential calculi on Hopf algebras to the Drinfeld double. In the first place we recover that bicovariant bimodules are in one to one correspondence with the Drinfeld double representations; we then introduce a Hochschild cohomology of the algebra of functions and discuss the main result stating that each differential calculus is associated to a 1-cocycle satisfying an additional invariance condition with respect to a natural action. Defining a Hochschild cohomology of the double, the above invariance becomes a condition with respect to the enveloping algebra component of the double that must be added to the 1-cocycle relation.

A new class of deformed special functions from quantum homogeneous spaces

We study the most elementary aspects of harmonic analysis on a homogeneous space of a deformation of the two-dimensional Euclidean group, admitting generalizations to dimensions three and four, whose quantum parameter has the physical dimensions of a length. The homogeneous space is recognized as a new quantum plane and the action of the Euclidean quantum group is used to determine an eigenvalue problem for the Casimir operator, that constitutes the analogue of the Schroedinger equation in the presence of such deformation. The solutions are given in the plane wave and in the angular momentum bases and are expressed in terms of hypergeometric series with non commuting parameters

Quantum Double and Differential Calculi

We show that bicovariant bimodules as defined by Woronowicz are in one to one correspondence with the Drinfeld quantum double representations. We then prove that a differential calculus associated to a bicovariant bimodule of dimension n is connected to the existence of a particular (n+1)--dimensional representation of the double. An example of bicovariant differential calculus on the non quasitriangular quantum group E_q(2) is developed. The construction is studied in terms of Hochschild cohomology and a correspondence between differential calculi and 1-cocycles is proved. Some differences of calculi on quantum and finite groups with respect to Lie groups are stressed.

Free q-Schrodinger Equation from Homogeneous Spaces of the 2-dim Euclidean Quantum Group

After a preliminary review of the definition and the general properties of the homogeneous spaces of quantum groups, the quantum hyperboloid qH and the quantum plane qP are determined as homogeneous spaces of Fq(E(2)). The canonical action of Eq(2) is used to define a natural q-analog of the free Schro"dinger equation, that is studied in the momentum and angular momentum bases. In the first case the eigenfunctions are factorized in terms of products of two q-exponentials. In the second case we determine the eigenstates of the unitary representation, which, in the qP case, are given in terms of Hahn-Exton functions. Introducing the universal T-matrix for Eq(2) we prove that the Hahn-Exton as well as Jackson q-Bessel functions are also obtained as matrix elements of T, thus giving the correct extension to quantum groups of well known methods in harmonic analysis.

Additional Degrees of Freedom in Skyrmion Motion

We consider the quantization of chiral solitons with baryon number $B>1$. Classical solitons are obtained within the framework of a variational approach. From the form of the soliton solution it can be seen that besides the group of symmetry describing transformations of the configuration as a whole there are additional symmetries corresponding to internal transformations. Taking into account the additional degrees of freedom leads to some sort of spin alignment for light nuclei and gives constraints on their spectra.

Deformation Quantization of the Heisenberg Group

A *-product compatible with the comultiplication of the Hopf algebra of the functions on the Heisenberg group is determined by deforming a coboundary Lie-Poisson structure defined by a classical r-matrix satisfying the modified Yang-Baxter equation. The corresponding quantum group is studied and its R-matrix is explicitly calculated.

Exponential mapping for non semisimple quantum groups

The concept of universal T matrix, recently introduced by Fronsdal and Galindo in the framework of quantum groups, is here discussed as a generalization of the exponential mapping. New examples related to inhomogeneous quantum groups of physical interest are developed, the duality calculations are explicitly presented and it is found that in some cases the universal T matrix, like for Lie groups, is expressed in terms of usual exponential series.

Heisenberg XXZ Model and Quantum Galilei Group

The 1D Heisenberg spin chain with anisotropy of the XXZ type is analyzed in terms of the symmetry given by the quantum Galilei group Gamma_q(1). We show that the magnon excitations and the s=1/2, n-magnon bound states are determined by the algebra. Thus the Gamma_q(1) symmetry provides a description that naturally induces the Bethe Ansatz. The recurrence relations determined by Gamma_q(1) permit to express the energy of the n-magnon bound states in a closed form in terms of Tchebischeff polynomials.

Quantum Galilei Group as Symmetry of Magnons

Inhomogeneous quantum groups are shown to be an effective algebraic tool in the study of integrable systems and to provide solutions equivalent to the Bethe ansatz. The method is illustrated on the 1D Heisenberg ferromagnet whose symmetry is shown to be the quantum Galilei group Gamma_q(1) here introduced. Both the single magnon and the s=1/2 bound states of n-magnons are completely described by the algebra.
