Radiative corrections to DVCS electron tensor

Radiative corrections in leading logarithmic approximation are calculated for the differential cross section of $e^- μ^+$ radiative scattering. In particular the interference term due to photon emission from electron and muon blocks are calculated in helicity independent and dependent parts. The calculation is applied to the kinematical conditions of existing DVCS data in electron-proton collisions. Both helicity odd and helicity even differential cross sections are considered.

Search for two photon exchange from $e^+ +e^-\to p+\bar p +γ$ data

We look for asymmetries in the angular distributions of events from recent data on $e^+ +e^-\to p +\bar p +γ$ from BABAR collaboration. From first principles, as the C-invariance of the electromagnetic interaction and the crossing symmetry, the presence of two-photon exchange would create a forward backward asymmetry in the data. The analysis of the available data shows no asymmetry, within an error of 2%. This result is consistent with a structureless model for the proton, based on a calculation of $e^+ +e^-\to μ^+ + μ^- +γ$ with a proper replacement of the muon mass. As no systematic deviations are seen, we can conclude that these data do not give any hint of the presence of the two photon contribution, in all the considered kinematical range.

Double logarithmical corrections to beam asymmetry in polarized electron-proton scattering

The up-down asymmetry in transversally polarized electron proton scattering is induced by the interference between one and two photon exchange amplitudes. Inelastic intermediate hadronic states (different from one-proton state) of the two photon exchange amplitude give rise to contributions containing the square of "large logarithm" (logarithm of the ratio of the transferred momentum to the electron mass). We investigate the presence of such contributions in higher orders of perturbation theory. The relation with the case of zero transfer momentum is explicitly given. The mechanism of cancellation of infrared singularities is discussed.

Charge Form Factor and Cluster Structure of $^6$Li Nucleus

The charge form factor of ${}^6$Li nucleus is considered on the basis of its cluster structure. The charge density of ${}^6$Li is presented as a superposition of two terms. One of them is a folded density and the second one is a sum of ${}^4$He and the deuteron densities. Using the available experimental data for ${}^4$He and deuteron charge form factors, a good agreement of the calculations within the suggested scheme is obtained with the experimental data for the charge form factor of ${}^6$Li, including those in the region of large transferred momenta.

Search for Low Mass Exotic leptonic or bosonic structures

Recently, several papers discussed the existence of a low mass leptonic structure. It was suggested that the $Σ^{+}$ disintegration: $Σ^{+}\to$pP$^{0}$, P$^{0}\toμ^{-}μ^{+}$ proceeds through an intermediate particle P$^{0}$ having a mass close to M$\approx$~214.3 MeV. The present work intends to look at other available data, in order to observe the eventual existence of a small peak or shoulder, at a mass close to M=214.3 MeV, which can strengthen the existence of a state produced by two leptons of opposite electric charge.

Polarization effects in the reaction $e^++e^-\to ρ^+ +ρ^- $ and determination of the $ρ-$ meson form factors in the time--like region

The electron positron annihilation reaction into four pion production has been studied, through the channel $e^++e^-\to \bar ρ+ρ$. The differential (and total) cross sections and various polarization observables for this reaction have been calculated in terms of the electromagnetic form factors of the corresponding $γ^*ρρ$ current. The elements of the spin--density matrix of the $ρ-$meson were also calculated. Numerical estimations have been done, with the help of phenomenological form factors obtained in the space--like region of the momentum transfer squared and analytically extended to the time-like region.

Bremsstrahlung photon polarization for $ee^\pm\to (eγ)e^\pm$, and $ep\to (eγ)p$ high energy collisions

The polarization of bremsstrahlung photon in the processes $ee^\pm\to (eγ)e^\pm$, and $ep\to (eγ)p$ is calculated for peripheral kinematics, in the high energy limit where the cross section does not decrease with the incident energy. When the initial electron is unpolarized(longitudinally polarized) the final photon can be linearly (circularly) polarized. The Stokes parameters of the photon polarization are calculated as a function of the kinematical variables of process: the energy of recoil particle, the energy fraction of scattered electron, and the polar and azimuthal angles of photon. Numerical results are given in form of tables, for typical values of the relevant kinematic variables.

Polarization effects for the reaction $e^++e^-\to \bar p+p $ in presence of two--photon exchange - Lecture Notes

The aim of this work is to give a pedagogical derivation of polarization observables for the annihilation reaction $e^+ + e^- \to N+ \bar N$. The reaction mechanism is one photon + two photon exchange, the last is described by axial parametrization. After deriving the general expressions for the cross section of a binary process, the matrix element is written in terms of three complex amplitudes. The method to derive polarization observables is detailed and all expressions are given in terms of generalized form factors. The strategy for determining physical form factors in annihilation reactions in presence of two photon exchange is suggested, on the basis of model independent properties of the relevant observables.

Study of resonant processes for multi-pion production in $\bar p +p\to\ell ^++\ell^- +n_ππ$ annihilation

In frame of a phenomenological approach based on Compton-like Feynman amplitudes, we study multi-pion production in antiproton nucleon collisions. The main interest of this reaction is related to the possibility to study the properties of the presumable $\bar N N$ atom and of its resonances. For the case of formation of a scalar or pseudoscalar resonant state, with $I^G(J^{P})=1^-(0^{\pm}),~0^+(0^-)$ numerical results are obtained. The differential cross section in an experimental set-up where the pions invariant mass is measured, is given with explicit dependence on the lepton pair and pions invariant mass.

Comments to the calculation of transverse beam spin asymmetry for electron proton elastic scattering

The transverse beam spin induced asymmetry is calculated for the scattering of transversally polarized electrons on a proton target within a realistic model. Such asymmetry is due to the interference between the Born amplitude and the imaginary part of two photon exchange amplitude. In particular, the contribution of non-excited hadron state (elastic) to the two photon amplitude is calculated. The elastic contribution requires infrared divergences regularization and can be expressed in terms of numerical integrals of the target form factor. The inelastic channel corresponding to the one pion hadronic state contribution is enhanced by squared logarithmic terms. We show that the ratio of elastic over inelastic channel is of the order of 0.3 and cannot be ignored. Enhancement effects due to the decreasing of form factors bring the transverse beam asymmetry to values as large as $10^{-4}$ for particular kinematical conditions.

Search for Low Mass Exotic Baryons in One Pion Electroproduction Data Measured at JLAB

This paper aims to give further evidence for the existence of low mass exotic baryons. Narrow structures in baryonic missing mass or baryonic invariant mass were previously observed during the last ten years. Since their existence is sometimes questionable, the structure functions of one pion electroproduction cross sections, measured at JLAB, are studied to add informations on the possible existence of these narrow exotic baryonic resonances.

Model Independent Considerations on Two-Photon Exchange in Electron Proton Scattering and in the Crossed Processes

The presence of two photon exchange in $ep$ elastic scattering and in the crossed processes ($\bar p +p\leftrightarrow \ell^+ +\ell^-$, $\ell=e$ or $μ$) is discussed in terms of three complex amplitudes which are functions of two kinematical variables, the momentum transfer squared $q^2$ and the polarization of the virtual photon, $ε$. Model independent expressions of the differential cross section and of polarization observables are derived. Particular attention is devoted to the extraction of hadron electromagnetic form factors which becomes much more difficult in presence of two photon exchange, and to the relevant experimental observables which could give evidence for such mechanism.

Testing axial and electromagnetic nucleon form factors in time-like regions in the processes $\bar p + n\to π^- +\ell^-+\ell^+$ and $\bar p+ p\to π^0 +\ell^- + \ell^+$, $\ell=e$, $μ$

In frame of a phenomenological approach based on Compton-like Feynman amplitudes, we study the annihilation channel in antiproton nucleon collisions with production of a single charged or neutral pion and a lepton-antilepton pair. These reactions allow to access nucleon and axial electromagnetic form factors in time-like region and offer a unique possibility to study the kinematical region below two nucleon threshold. The differential cross section in an experimental set-up where the pion is fully detected is given with explicit dependence on the relevant nucleon form factors. The possibility to measure heavy charged pion in the annihilation channel is also discussed.

From theory to experiment: hadron electromagnetic form factors in space-like and time-like regions

Hadron electromagnetic form factors contain dynamical information on the intrinsic structure of the hadrons. The pioneering work developed at the Kharkov Physical-Technical Institute in the 60's on the relation between the polarized cross section and form factors triggered a number of experiments. Such experiments could be performed only recently, due to the progress in accelerator and polarimetry techniques. The principle of these measurements is recalled and the surprising and very precise results obtained on proton are presented. The actual status of nucleon electromagnetic form factors is reviewed, with special attention to the basic work done in Kharkov Institute.

Model independent analysis of polarization effects in elastic electron deuteron scattering in presence of two--photon exchange

The general spin structure of the matrix element, taking into account the two--photon exchange contribution, for the elastic electron (positron) --deuteron scattering has been derived using general symmetry properties of the hadron electromagnetic interaction, such as P--, C-- and T--invariances as well as lepton helicity conservation in QED at high energy. Taking into account also crossing symmetry, the amplitudes of $e^{\mp}d-$scattering can be parametrized in terms of fifteen real functions. The expressions for the differential cross section and for all polarization observables are given in terms of these functions. We consider the case of an arbitrary polarized deuteron target and polarized electron beam (both longitudinal and transverse). The transverse polarization of the electron beam induces a single--spin asymmetry which is non--zero in presence of two--photon exchange. It is shown that elastic deuteron electromagnetic form factors can still be extracted in presence of two photon exchange, from the measurements of the differential cross section and of one polarization observable (for example, the tensor asymmetry) for electron and positron deuteron elastic scattering, in the same kinematical conditions.

The structure function method applied to polarized and unpolarized electron-proton scattering: a solution of the G_E(p)/G_M(p) discrepancy

The cross section for polarized and unpolarized electron-proton scattering is calculated taking into account radiative corrections in leading and next-to leading logarithmic approximation. The expression of the cross section is formally similar to the cross section of the Drell-Yan process, where the structure functions of the electron play the role of Drell-Yan probability distributions. The interference of the Born amplitude with the two photon exchange amplitude (box-type diagrams) is expressed as a contribution to K-factor and it is larger when the momentum is equally shared between the two photons, assuming that proton form factors decrease rapidly with the momentum transfer squared. The calculation of the box amplitude is done when the intermediate state is a proton or the Delta-resonance. The results of numerical estimations show that the present calculation of radiative corrections can bring into agreement the conflicting experimental results on proton electromagnetic form factors an that the two photon contribution is very small.

Target normal spin asymmetry and charge asymmetry for $eμ$ elastic scattering and the crossed processes

Two kinds of asymmetry arise from the interference of the Born amplitude and the box-type amplitude corresponding to two virtual photons exchange, namely charge-odd and one spin asymmetries. In case of unpolarized particles the charge-odd correlation is calculated. It can be measured in combination of electron muon and positron muon scattering experiments. The forward-backward asymmetry is the corresponding quantity which can be measured for the crossed processes. In the case of polarized muon the one-spin asymmetry for annihilation and scattering channels has been calculated. The additional structure function arising from the interference is shown to suffer from infrared divergencies. The background due to electroweak interaction is discussed.
