Multimessenger search for evaporating primordial black holes

Primordial black holes (PBHs) are black holes which may form in the early Universe through the gravitational collapse of primordial cosmological density fluctuations. Due to Hawking radiation these PBHs are supposed to evaporate by emitting particles. Recent developments in the experimental searching for evaporating PBHs in the local Universe are reviewed. The multimessenger techniques of searching for signals from evaporating PBHs are discussed.

Primordial black hole constraints for curvaton models with predicted large non-Gaussianity

We consider the early Universe scenario which allows for production of non-Gaussian curvature perturbations at small scales. We study the peculiarities of a formation of primordial black holes (PBHs) connected with the non-Gaussianity. In particular, we show that PBH constraints on the values of curvature perturbation power spectrum amplitude are strongly dependent on the shape of perturbations and can significantly (by two orders of magnitude) deviate from the usual Gaussian limit ${\cal P}_ζ\lesssim 10^{-2}$. We give examples of PBH mass spectra calculations and PBH constraints for the particular case of the curvaton model.

Primordial black hole formation from non-Gaussian curvature perturbations

We consider several early Universe models that allow for production of large curvature perturbations at small scales. As is well known, such perturbations can lead to formation of primordial black holes (PBHs). We briefly review the today's situation with PBH constraints and then focus on two models in which strongly non-Gaussian curvature perturbations are predicted: the hybrid inflation waterfall model and the curvaton model. We show that PBH constraints on the values of curvature perturbation power spectrum amplitude are strongly dependent on the shape of perturbations and can significantly (by two orders of magnitude) deviate from the usual Gaussian limit ${\cal P}_ζ\lesssim 10^{-2}$. We give examples of PBH mass spectra calculations for both inflationary models.

Photonuclear interactions at very high energies and vector meson dominance

We show that nucleon electromagnetic structure functions of deep inelastic scattering in Regge-Gribov limit (fixed Q-squared, asymptotically large 1/x and s) can be well described in the two-component (soft + hard) approach. In the concrete model elaborated by authors, the soft part of the virtual photon-nucleon scattering is given by the vector meson dominance, with taking into account the radial excitations of the rho-meson and nondiagonal transitions in meson-nucleon interactions. The hard part is calculated by using the dipole factorization, i.e., the process is considered as the dissociation of the photon into a q and anti-q - pair (the "color dipole") and the subsequent interaction of this dipole with the nucleon. The dipole cross section has a Regge-type s-dependence and vanishes in the limit of large transverse sizes of the dipole. We give the brief description of the model and present results of the detailed comparison of model predictions with experimental data for electromagnetic structure functions of the nucleon.

About possible contribution of intrinsic charm component to inclusive spectra of charmed mesons

We calculate differential energy spectra ($x_F$-distributions) of charmed particles produced in proton-nucleus collisions, assuming the existence of intrinsic heavy quark components in the proton wave function. For the calculation, the recently proposed factorization scheme is used, based on the Color Glass Condensate theory and specially suited for predictions of a production of particles with large rapidities. It is argued that the intrinsic charm component can, if it exists, dominate in a sum of two components, intrinsic + extrinsic, of the inclusive spectrum of charmed particles produced in proton-nucleus collisions at high energies, in the region of medium $x_F$, $0.15 < x_F < 0.7$, and can give noticeable contribution to atmospheric fluxes of prompt muons and neutrinos.

Experimental search of bursts of very high energy gamma rays from primordial black holes

The technical procedure of a search of bursts of very high energy gamma rays from evaporation of primordial black holes on air-shower array "Andyrchy" of Baksan Neutrino Observatory of Institute for Nuclear Research is described. The theoretical model used in the present work assumes that the chromosphere around the evaporating black hole does not form. For minimization of the cosmic ray background the method of multidimensional analysis of modelled as well as experimentally detected events is applied. The new upper limit on the concentration of evaporating primordial black holes in the local region of Galaxy is obtained. The comparison of the results of different experiments is given.

Experimental search of bursts of gamma rays from primordial black holes using different evaporation models

Experimental data of arrays "Andyrchy" and "Carpet-2" of Baksan Neutrino Observatory (Institute for Nuclear Research), obtained in the regime of a detection of the single cosmic-ray component, are used for a search of the bursts of cosmic gamma rays from evaporating primordial black holes. Different theoretical models of the evaporation process are used for the analysis. Distributions of the counting rate fluctuations on both arrays agree with the expectations from the cosmic ray background. The new constraints on the concentration of evaporating primordial black holes in the local region of Galaxy are obtained. The comparison of the results of different experiments is given.

Two component model for a description of nucleon structure functions in low-x region

Two component model for a description of the electromagnetic nucleon structure functions in low-x region, based on generalized vector dominance and color dipole approaches is briefly described. The model operates with the mesons of rho-family having the mass spectrum which is equidistant on square mass and takes into account the nondiagonal transitions in meson-nucleon scattering. The special cut-off factors are introduced in the model, to exclude the gamma-qq-V transitions in the case of the narrow qq-pairs. For the color dipole part of the model the well known FKS-parameterization is used.

Searching for Very-High-Energy Gamma-Ray Bursts from Evaporating Primordial Black Holes

Temporal and energy characteristics of the very-high-energy gamma-ray bursts from evaporating primordial black holes have been calculated by assuming that the photospheric and chromospheric effects are negligible. The technique of searching for such bursts on shower arrays is described. We show that the burst time profile and the array dead time should be taken into account to interpret experimental data. Based on data from the Andyrchy array of the Baksan Neutrino Observatory (Institute for Nuclear Research, Russian Academy of Sciences), we have obtained an upper limit on the number density of evaporating primordial black holes in a local region of space with a scale size of ~10^{-3} pc. Comparison with the results of previous experiments is made.

Constraints on the Number Density of Evaporating Primordial Black Holes for the Chromospheric Evaporation Models

Cosmic gamma-ray bursts with primary-photon energies > 10 GeV are sought in the data from the Andyrchy array obtained in the mode of detection of a single cosmic-ray component during a net observation period of 2005.4 d. The distribution of fluctuations of the detector counting rate agrees with the expected cosmic-ray background, the only exception being an event with a deviation of 7.9 sigma. Constraints on the number density of evaporating primordial black holes in a local region of the Galaxy are obtained for the chromospheric evaporation models.

The brief review of modern theoretical models describing the process of the photon absorption by nucleons at superhigh energies of real photons is given. The main aim of the work is an estimation of the theoretical uncertainty of the cross section prediction at photon energies around 10^19-10^20 eV.

Neutrinos from extragalactic cosmic ray interactions in the far infrared background

Extragalactic background of high energy neutrinos arising from the interactions of cosmic ray protons with far-infrared extragalactic background radiation is calculated. The main assumption is that the cosmic ray spectrum at energies higher than $10^8 GeV$ has extragalactic origin and, therefore, is proton dominated. All calculations are performed with taking into account the possible cosmological evolution of extragalactic sources of cosmic ray protons as well as infrared-luminous galaxies.
