Quantum state engineering of spin-orbit coupled ultracold atoms in a Morse potential

Achieving full control of a Bose-Einstein condensate can have valuable applications in metrology, quantum information processing, and quantum condensed matter physics. We propose protocols to simultaneously control the internal (related to its pseudospin-1/2) and motional (position-related) states of a spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a Morse potential. In the presence of synthetic spin-orbit coupling, the state transition of a noninteracting condensate can be implemented by Raman coupling and detuning terms designed by invariant-based inverse engineering. The state transfer may also be driven by tuning the direction of the spin-orbit-coupling field and modulating the magnitude of the effective synthetic magnetic field. The results can be generalized for interacting condensates by changing the time-dependent detuning to compensate for the interaction. We find that a two-level algorithm for the inverse engineering remains numerically accurate even if the entire set of possible states is considered. The proposed approach is robust against the laser-field noise and systematic device-dependent errors.

Quantum heat engine based on a spin-orbit and Zeeman-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate

We explore the potential of a spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensate for thermodynamic cycles. For this purpose we propose a quantum heat engine based on a condensate with spin-orbit and Zeeman coupling as a working medium. The cooling and heating are simulated by contacts of the condensate with an external magnetized media and demagnetized media. We examine the condensate ground state energy and its dependence on the strength of the synthetic spin-orbit and Zeeman couplings and interatomic interaction. Then we study the efficiency of the proposed engine. The cycle has a critical value of spin-orbit coupling related to the engine maximum efficiency.

Coupled density-spin Bose-Einstein condensates dynamics and collapse in systems with quintic nonlinearity

We investigate the effects of spin-orbit coupling and Zeeman splitting on the coupled density-spin dynamics and collapse of the Bose-Einstein condensate driven by the quintic self-attraction in the same- and cross-spin channels. The characteristic feature of the collapse is the decrease in the width as given by the participation ratio of the density rather than by the expectation values of the coordinate. Qualitative arguments and numerical simulations reveal the existence of a critical spin-orbit coupling strength which either prohibits or leads to the collapse, and its dependence on other parameters, such as the condensates norm, spin-dependent nonlinear coupling, and the Zeeman splitting. The entire nonlinear dynamics critically depend on the initial spin sate.

Fast spin control in a two-electron double quantum dot by dynamical invariants

Inverse engineering of electric fields has been recently proposed to achieve fast and robust spin control in a single-electron quantum dot with spin-orbit coupling. In this paper we design, by inverse engineering based on Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants, time-dependent electric fields to realize fast transitions in the selected singlet-triplet subspace of a two-electron double quantum dot. We apply two-mode driving schemes, directly employing the Lewis-Riesenfeld phases, to minimize the electric field necessary to design flexible protocols and perform spin manipulation on the chosen timescale.

Fast and robust spin manipulation in a quantum dot by electric fields

We apply an invariant-based inverse engineering method to control by time-dependent electric fields electron spin dynamics in a quantum dot with spin-orbit coupling in a weak magnetic field. The designed electric fields provide a shortcut to adiabatic processes that flips the spin rapidly, thus avoiding decoherence effects. This approach, being robust with respect to the device-dependent noise, can open new possibilities for the spin-based quantum information processing.
