Three robust temperature-drift compensation strategies for a MEMS gravimeter

Gravimeters fabricated with MEMS suffer from temperature-dependent drifts in their long-term stability. We analyze the thermal contributions to the signal, and we propose three mechanisms to mitigate their effects. The first one uses materials that fulfill the condition $α_E=-2 α$, where the thermal expansion is canceled by the temperature variation of the Young's modulus. The second one uses the thermal expansion to introduce a compression that compensates the variation in the force of the spring. In the third one, the expansion compensates the displacement of the proof mass in the sensor, rather than the force. The three mechanisms are robust since they only depend on the temperature of the sensor itself.

Dual atomic interferometer with a tunable point of minimum magnetic sensitivity

Atomic interferometers are often affected by magnetic field fluctuations. Using the clock transition at zero magnetic field minimizes the effect of these fluctuations. There is another transition in rubidium that minimizes the magnetic sensitivity at 3.2 G.We combine the previous two transitions to obtain minimum magnetic sensitivity at a tunable magnetic field between 2.2 and 3.2 G. The two interferometers evolve independently from each other and we control the magnetic sensitivity by changing the population in both transitions with a microwave pulse.

Space-Time Curvature Signatures in Bose-Einstein Condensates

We derive a generalized Gross-Pitaevski (GP) equation immersed on a electromagnetic and a weak gravitational field starting from the covariant Complex Klein-Gordon field in a curved space-time. We compare it with the GP equation where the gravitational field is added by hand as an external potential. We show that there is a small difference of order $g z/c^2$ between them that could be measured in the future using Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC). This represents the next order correction to the Newtonian gravity in a curved space-time.

Number Fluctuations and Energy Dissipation in Sodium Spinor Condensates

We characterize fluctuations in atom number and spin populations in F=1 sodium spinor condensates. We find that the fluctuations enable a quantitative measure of energy dissipation in the condensate. The time evolution of the population fluctuations shows a maximum. We interpret this as evidence of a dissipation-driven separatrix crossing in phase space. For a given initial state, the critical time to the separatrix crossing is found to depend exponentially on the magnetic field and linearly on condensate density. This crossing is confirmed by tracking the energy of the spinor condensate as well as by Faraday rotation spectroscopy. We also introduce a phenomenological model that describes the observed dissipation with a single coefficient.
