Asymptotic properties of random monomial ideals

This paper focuses on asymptotic properties of random monomial ideals through a statistical viewpoint. It extends the study of redundancy in monomial ideals by analyzing the poset density of the LCM-lattice. We explore how this density behaves across random algebraic models and structured networks. Experimental data reveal that the LCM-lattice exhibits sharp threshold behavior rather than changing smoothly. We observe a strong negative correlation between the number of generators and LCM-lattice density, abruptly separating three distinct regimes: a low-density Taylor-like regime, a high-density redundant regime, and a narrow transition window. We show that increasing the generator degree causes this density drop to occur at lower probability thresholds. We conclude by conjecturing that for equigenerated squarefree ideals, the LCM-lattice density undergoes a sharp phase transition, analogous to the emergence of giant components in hypergraphs. This suggests that the classical, ideal-by-ideal role of the LCM-lattice as a combinatorial invariant also admits a statistical/asymptotic counterpart: in natural random families, redundancy and resolution-complexity indicators concentrate into distinct typical regimes separated by a narrow transition window.

Gröbner bases, resolutions, and the Lefschetz properties for powers of a general linear form in the squarefree algebra

For the almost complete intersection ideals $(x_1^2, \dots, x_n^2, (x_1 + \cdots + x_n)^k)$, we compute their reduced Gröbner basis for any term ordering, revealing a combinatorial structure linked to lattice paths, elementary symmetric polynomials, and Catalan numbers. Using this structure, we classify the weak Lefschetz property for these ideals. Additionally, we provide a new proof of the well-known result that the squarefree algebra satisfies the strong Lefschetz property. Finally, we compute the Betti numbers of the initial ideals and construct a minimal free resolution using a Mayer-Vietoris tree approach.

Monomial polarization and depolarization of abstract simplicial complexes

We translate the operations of polarization and depolarization from monomial ideals in a polynomial ring to abstract simplicial complexes. As a result, we explicitly describe the relation between the Koszul simplicial complex of a monomial ideal and that of its polarization. Using the simplicial translation of depolarization we propose a way to reduce a simplicial complex to a smaller one with the same homology. This type of reduction, that can be interpreted as non-elementary collapse, can be used as a pre-process step for algorithms on simplicial complexes. We apply this methodology to the efficient computation of the Alexander dual of abstract simplicial complexes.

Redundancy analysis using lcm-filtrations: networks, system signature and sensitivity evaluation

We introduce the lcm-filtration and stepwise filtration, comparing their performance across various scenarios in terms of computational complexity, efficiency, and redundancy. The lcm-filtration often involves identical steps or ideals, leading to unnecessary computations. To address this, we analyse how stepwise filtration can effectively compute only the non-identical steps, offering a more efficient approach. We compare these filtrations in applications to networks, system signatures, and sensitivity analysis.

Stable Coherent Systems

We describe the notion of stability of coherent systems as a framework to deal with redundancy. We define stable coherent systems and show how this notion can help the design of reliable systems. We demonstrate that the reliability of stable systems can be efficiently computed using the algebraic versions of improved inclusion-exclusion formulas and sum of disjoint products.

Indicator functions, v-numbers and Gorenstein rings in the theory of projective Reed-Muller-type codes

For projective Reed--Muller-type codes we give a global duality criterion in terms of the v-number and the Hilbert function of a vanishing ideal. As an application, we provide a global duality theorem for projective Reed--Muller-type codes over Gorenstein vanishing ideals, generalizing the known case where the vanishing ideal is a complete intersection. We classify self dual Reed-Muller-type codes over Gorenstein ideals using the regularity and a parity check matrix. For projective evaluation codes, we give a duality theorem inspired by that of affine evaluation codes. We show how to compute the regularity index of the $r$-th generalized Hamming weight function in terms of the standard indicator functions of the set of evaluation points.

Cellular structure of the Pommaret-Seiler resolution for quasi-stable ideals

We prove that the Pommaret-Seiler resolution for quasi-stable ideals is cellular and give a cellular structure for it. This shows that this resolution is a generalization of the well known Eliahou-Kervaire resolution for stable ideals in a deeper sense. We also prove that the Pommaret-Seiler resolution can be reduced to the minimal one via Discrete Morse Theory and provide a constructive algorithm to perform this reduction.

On the minimal free resolution of the Rees algebra of tri-generated bivariate monomial ideals

Let $I$ be a monomial ideal in two variables generated by three monomials and let $\mathcal{R}(I)$ be its Rees ideal. We describe an algorithm to compute the minimal generating set of $\mathcal{R}(I)$. Based on the data obtained by this algorithm, we build a graph that encodes the minimal free resolution of $\mathcal{R}(I)$. We explicitly describe the modules and differentials on the minimal free resolution of $\mathcal{R}(I)$.

A C++ class for algebraic reliability computations

We present the design and implementation of a \texttt{C++} class for reliability analysis of multi-state systems using an algebraic approach based on monomial ideals. The class is implemented within the open-source \verb|CoCoALib| library and provides functions to compute system reliability and bounds. The algorithms we present may be applied to general systems with independent components having identical or non-identical probability distributions.

Support posets of some monomial ideals

The support poset of a monomial ideal $I\subseteq\mathbf{k}[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ encodes the relation between the variables $x_1,\dots,x_n$ and the minimal monomial generators of $I$. It is known that not every poset is realizable as the support poset of some monomial ideal. We describe some posets $P$ for which we can explicitly find at least one monomial ideal $I_P$ such that $P$ is the support poset of $I_P$. Also, for some families of monomial ideals we describe their support posets and study their properties. As an example of application we examine the relation between forests and series-parallel ideals.

Algebraic reliability of multi-state $k$-out-of-$n$ systems

In this paper we review different definitions that multi-state $k$-out-of-$n$ systems have received along the literature and study them in a unified way using the algebra of monomial ideals. We thus obtain formulas and algorithms to compute their reliability and bounds for it.

Polarization and depolarization of monomial ideals with application to multistate system reliability

We study the family of depolarizations of a squarefree monomial ideal $I$, i.e. all monomial ideals whose polarization is $I$. We describe a method to find all depolarizations of $I$ and study some of the properties they share and some they do not share. We then apply polarization and depolarization tools to study the reliability of multi-state coherent systems via binary systems and vice versa.

The algebraic method in tree percolation

We apply the methods of algebraic reliability to the study of percolation on trees. To a complete $k$-ary tree $T_{k,n}$ of depth $n$ we assign a monomial ideal $I_{k,n}$ on $\sum_{i=1}^n k^i$ variables and $k^n$ minimal monomial generators. We give explicit recursive formulae for the Betti numbers of $I_{k,n}$ and their Hilbert series, which allow us to study explicitly percolation on $T_{k,n}$. We study bounds on this percolation and study its asymptotical behavior with the mentioned commutative algebra techniques.

Types of signature analysis in reliability based on Hilbert series

The present paper studies multiple failure and signature analysis of coherent systems using the theory of monomial ideals. While system reliability has been studied using Hilbert series of monomial ideals, this is not enough to understand in a deeper sense the ideal structure features that reflect the behavior of the system under multiple simultaneous failures and signature. Therefore, we introduce the lcm-filtration of a monomial ideal, and we study the Hilbert series and resolutions of the corresponding ideals. Given a monomial ideal, we explicitly compute the resolutions for all ideals in the associated lcm-filtration, and we apply this to study coherent systems. Some computational results are shown in examples to demonstrate the usefulness of this approach and the computational issues that arise. We also study the failure distribution from a statistical point of view by means of the algebraic tools described.
