Two-parameter Langlands Correspondence

In our paper arXiv:1701.03146 we established, for every simply-laced Lie algebra g, a canonical isomorphism between the spaces of deformed conformal blocks of the deformed W-algebra and the quantum affine algebra corresponding to g, which we view as a q-deformation of the quantum Langlands correspondence. This was done by realizing the deformed conformal blocks of these algebras via the quantum K-theory of the Nakajima quiver varieties. We also linked this isomorphism to a duality emerging from the 6d little string theory. Here, we give a brief survey of these results and propose an extension to the non-simply laced case, which exhibits a Langlands-type duality.

Extremal monomial property of q-characters and polynomiality of the X-series

The character of every irreducible finite-dimensional representation of a simple Lie algebra has the highest weight property. The invariance of the character under the action of the Weyl group W implies that there is a similar "extremal weight property" for every weight obtained by applying an element of W to the highest weight. In this paper we conjecture an analogous "extremal monomial property" of the q-characters of simple finite-dimensional modules over the quantum affine algebras, using the braid group action on q-characters defined by Chari. In the case of the identity element of W, this is the highest monomial property of q-characters proved in arXiv:math/9911112. Here we prove it for simple reflections. Somewhat surprisingly, the extremal monomial property for each w in W turns out to be equivalent to polynomiality of the "X-series" corresponding to w, which we introduce in this paper. We show that these X-series are equal to certain limits of the generalized Baxter operators for all w in W. Thus, we find a new bridge between q-characters and the spectra of XXZ-type quantum integrable models associated to quantum affine algebras. This leads us to conjecture polynomiality of all generalized Baxter operators, extending the results of arXiv:1308.3444.

Extended Baxter relations and QQ-systems for quantum affine algebras

Generalized Baxter's TQ-relations and the QQ-system are systems of algebraic relations in the category O of representations of the Borel subalgebra of the quantum affine algebra U_q(g^), which we established in our earlier works arXiv:1308.3444 and arXiv:1606.05301. In the present paper, we conjecture a family of analogous relations labeled by elements of the Weyl group W of g, so that the original relations correspond to the identity element. These relations are closely connected to the W-symmetry of q-characters established in arXiv:2211.09779. We prove these relations for all w in W if g has rank two, and we prove the extended TQ-relations if w is a simple reflection. We also generalize our results and conjectures to the shifted quantum affine algebras.

A general framework for the analytic Langlands correspondence

We discuss a general framework for the analytic Langlands correspondence over an arbitrary local field F introduced and studied in our works arXiv:1908.09677, arXiv:2103.01509 and arXiv:2106.05243, in particular including non-split and twisted settings. Then we specialize to the archimedean cases (F=C and F=R) and give a (mostly conjectural) description of the spectrum of the Hecke operators in various cases in terms of opers satisfying suitable reality conditions, as predicted in part in arXiv:2103.01509, arXiv:2106.05243 and arXiv:2107.01732. We also describe an analogue of the Langlands functoriality principle in the analytic Langlands correspondence over C and show that it is compatible with the results and conjectures of arXiv:2103.01509. Finally, we apply the tools of the analytic Langlands correspondence over archimedean fields in genus zero to the Gaudin model and its generalizations, as well as their q-deformations.

Weyl group symmetry of q-characters

We define an action of the Weyl group W of a simple Lie algebra g on a completion of the ring Y, which is the codomain of the q-character homomorphism of the corresponding quantum affine algebra U_q(g^). We prove that the subring of W-invariants of Y is precisely the ring of q-characters, which is isomorphic to the Grothendieck ring of the category of finite-dimensional representations of U_q(g^). This resolves an old puzzle in the theory of q-characters. We also identify the screening operators, which were previously used to describe the ring of q-characters, as the subleading terms of simple reflections from W in a certain limit. Our results have already found applications to the study of the category O of representations of the Borel subalgebra of U_q(g^) in arXiv:2312.13256 and to the categorification of cluster algebras in arXiv:2401.04616.

Analytic Langlands correspondence for PGL(2) on P^1 with parabolic structures over local fields

We continue to develop the analytic Langlands program for curves over local fields initiated in arXiv:1908.09677, arXiv:2103.01509 following a suggestion of Langlands and a work of Teschner. Namely, we study the Hecke operators introduced in arXiv:2103.01509 in the case of P^1 over a local field with parabolic structures at finitely many points for the group PGL(2). We establish most of the conjectures of arXiv:1908.09677, arXiv:2103.01509 in this case.

Folded quantum integrable models and deformed W-algebras

We propose a novel quantum integrable model for every non-simply laced simple Lie algebra ${\mathfrak g}$, which we call the folded integrable model. Its spectra correspond to solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations obtained by folding the Bethe Ansatz equations of the standard integrable model associated to the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak g'})$ of the simply-laced Lie algebra ${\mathfrak g}'$ corresponding to ${\mathfrak g}$. Our construction is motivated by the analysis of the second classical limit of the deformed ${\mathcal W}$-algebra of ${\mathfrak g}$, which we interpret as a "folding" of the Grothendieck ring of finite-dimensional representations of $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak g'})$. We conjecture, and verify in a number of cases, that the spaces of states of the folded integrable model can be identified with finite-dimensional representations of $U_q({}^L\hat{\mathfrak g})$, where $^L\hat{\mathfrak g}$ is the (twisted) affine Kac-Moody algebra Langlands dual to $\hat{\mathfrak g}$. We discuss the analogous structures in the Gaudin model which appears in the limit $q \to 1$. Finally, we describe a conjectural construction of the simple ${\mathfrak g}$-crystals in terms of the folded $q$-characters.

An analytic version of the Langlands correspondence for complex curves

The Langlands correspondence for complex curves is traditionally formulated in terms of sheaves rather than functions. Recently, Langlands asked whether it is possible to construct a function-theoretic version. In this paper we use the algebra of commuting global differential operators (quantum Hitchin Hamiltonians and their complex conjugates) on the moduli space of G-bundles of a complex algebraic curve to formulate a function-theoretic correspondence. We conjecture the existence of a canonical self-adjoint extension of the symmetric part of this algebra acting on an appropriate Hilbert space and link its spectrum with the set of opers for the Langlands dual group of G satisfying a certain reality condition, as predicted earlier by Teschner. We prove this conjecture for G=GL(1) and in the simplest non-abelian case.

Hecke operators and analytic Langlands correspondence for curves over local fields

We construct analogues of the Hecke operators for the moduli space of G-bundles on a curve X over a local field F with parabolic structures at finitely many points. We conjecture that they define commuting compact normal operators on the Hilbert space of half-densities on this moduli space. In the case F=C, we also conjecture that their joint spectrum is in a natural bijection with the set of opers on X for the Langlands dual group with real monodromy. This may be viewed as an analytic version of the Langlands correspondence for complex curves. Furthermore, we conjecture an explicit formula relating the eigenvalues of the Hecke operators and the global differential operators studied in our previous paper arXiv:1908.09677. Assuming the compactness conjecture, this formula follows from a certain system of differential equations satisfied by the Hecke operators, which we prove in this paper for G=PGL(n).

Is there an analytic theory of automorphic functions for complex algebraic curves?

The geometric Langlands correspondence for complex algebraic curves differs from the original Langlands correspondence for number fields in that it is formulated in terms of sheaves rather than functions (in the intermediate case of curves over finite fields, both formulations are possible). In a recent preprint, Robert Langlands made a proposal for developing an analytic theory of automorphic forms on the moduli space of $G$-bundles on a complex algebraic curve. Langlands envisioned these forms as eigenfunctions of some analogues of Hecke operators. In these notes I show that if $G$ is an abelian group then there are well-defined Hecke operators, and I give a complete description of their eigenfunctions and eigenvalues. For non-abelian $G$, Hecke operators involve integration, which presents some difficulties. However, there is an alternative approach to developing an analytic theory of automorphic forms, based on the existence of a large commutative algebra of global differential operators acting on half-densities on the moduli stack of $G$-bundles. This approach (which implements some ideas of Joerg Teschner) is outlined here, as a preview of a joint work with Pavel Etingof and David Kazhdan.

Quantum Langlands dualities of boundary conditions, D-modules, and conformal blocks

We review and extend the vertex algebra framework linking gauge theory constructions and a quantum deformation of the Geometric Langlands Program. The relevant vertex algebras are associated to junctions of two boundary conditions in a 4d gauge theory and can be constructed from the basic ones by following certain standard procedures. Conformal blocks of modules over these vertex algebras give rise to twisted D-modules on the moduli stacks of G-bundles on Riemann surfaces which have applications to the Langlands Program. In particular, we construct a series of vertex algebras for every simple Lie group G which we expect to yield D-module kernels of various quantum Geometric Langlands dualities. We pay particular attention to the full duality group of gauge theory, which enables us to extend the standard qGL duality to a larger duality groupoid. We also discuss various subtleties related to the spin and gerbe structures and present a detailed analysis for the U(1) and SU(2) gauge theories.

q-Opers, QQ-Systems, and Bethe Ansatz

We introduce the notions of $(G,q)$-opers and Miura $(G,q)$-opers, where $G$ is a simply-connected complex simple Lie group, and prove some general results about their structure. We then establish a one-to-one correspondence between the set of $(G,q)$-opers of a certain kind and the set of nondegenerate solutions of a system of Bethe Ansatz equations. This may be viewed as a $q$DE/IM correspondence between the spectra of a quantum integrable model (IM) and classical geometric objects ($q$-differential equations). If $\mathfrak{g}$ is simply-laced, the Bethe Ansatz equations we obtain coincide with the equations that appear in the quantum integrable model of XXZ-type associated to the quantum affine algebra $U_q \widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$. However, if $\mathfrak{g}$ is non-simply laced, then these equations correspond to a different integrable model, associated to $U_q {}^L\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$ where $^L\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$ is the Langlands dual (twisted) affine algebra. A key element in this $q$DE/IM correspondence is the $QQ$-system that has appeared previously in the study of the ODE/IM correspondence and the Grothendieck ring of the category ${\mathcal O}$ of the relevant quantum affine algebra.

Quantum q-Langlands Correspondence

We formulate a two-parameter generalization of the geometric Langlands correspondence, which we prove for all simply-laced Lie algebras. It identifies the q-conformal blocks of the quantum affine algebra and the deformed W-algebra associated to two Langlands dual Lie algebras. Our proof relies on recent results in quantum K-theory of the Nakajima quiver varieties. The physical origin of the correspondence is the 6d little string theory. The quantum Langlands correspondence emerges in the limit in which the 6d string theory becomes the 6d conformal field theory with (2,0) supersymmetry.

Spectra of quantum KdV Hamiltonians, Langlands duality, and affine opers

We prove a system of relations in the Grothendieck ring of the category O of representations of the Borel subalgebra of an untwisted quantum affine algebra U_q(g^) introduced in [HJ]. This system was discovered in [MRV1, MRV2], where it was shown that solutions of this system can be attached to certain affine opers for the Langlands dual affine Kac-Moody algebra of g^, introduced in [FF5]. Together with the results of [BLZ3, BHK], which enable one to associate quantum g^-KdV Hamiltonians to representations from the category O, this provides strong evidence for the conjecture of [FF5] linking the spectra of quantum g^-KdV Hamiltonians and affine opers for the Langlands dual affine algebra. As a bonus, we obtain a direct and uniform proof of the Bethe Ansatz equations for a large class of quantum integrable models associated to arbitrary untwisted quantum affine algebras, under a mild genericity condition. We also conjecture analogues of these results for the twisted quantum affine algebras and elucidate the notion of opers for twisted affine algebras, making a connection to twisted opers introduced in [FG].

Gromov-Witten Gauge Theory I

We introduce a geometric completion of the stack of maps from stable marked curves to the quotient stack [point/GL(1)], and use it to construct some gauge-theoretic analogues of the Gromov-Witten invariants. We also indicate the generalization of these invariants to the quotient stacks [X/GL(1)], where X is a smooth proper complex algebraic variety.

Surface Operators and Separation of Variables

Alday, Gaiotto, and Tachikawa conjectured relations between certain 4d N=2 supersymmetric field theories and 2d Liouville conformal field theory. We study generalizations of these relations to 4d theories with surface operators. For one type of surface operators the corresponding 2d theory is the WZW model, and for another type - the Liouville theory with insertions of extra degenerate fields. We show that these two 4d theories with surface operators exhibit an IR duality, which reflects the known relation (the so-called separation of variables) between the conformal blocks of the WZW model and the Liouville theory. Furthermore, we trace this IR duality to a brane creation construction relating systems of M5 and M2 branes in M-theory. Finally, we show that this duality may be expressed as an explicit relation between the generating functions for the changes of variables between natural sets of Darboux coordinates on the Hitchin moduli space.

Langlands Program, Trace Formulas, and their Geometrization

The Langlands Program relates Galois representations and automorphic representations of reductive algebraic groups. The trace formula is a powerful tool in the study of this connection and the Langlands Functoriality Conjecture. After giving an introduction to the Langlands Program and its geometric version, which applies to curves over finite fields and over the complex field, I give a survey of my recent joint work with Robert Langlands and Ngo Bao Chau (arXiv:1003.4578 and arXiv:1004.5323) on a new approach to proving the Functoriality Conjecture using the trace formulas, and on the geometrization of the trace formulas. In particular, I discuss the connection of the latter to the categorification of the Langlands correspondence.
