On the poles of zeta functions for finite morphisms between normal surfaces

For a divisor representing a function and another divisor representing a differential form on a normal surface singularity, there is a notion of motivic and topological zeta function. In this paper, given a finite morphism between two normal surfaces, we prove that the set of poles of the motivic zeta function associated with the target is contained in the one associated with the source. We illustrate by examples that this inclusion is strict in general, and that on the topological level there are in general no inclusions between the sets of poles on source and target. On the other hand, when the morphism is the quotient map induced by an action of a finite abelian group on $\mathbb{C}^2$, and the divisor associated with the differential form on the source is trivial, we do show equality between the corresponding sets of poles, both on motivic and topological level. In addition, again for the quotient map induced by an action of a finite abelian group on $\mathbb{C}^2$, but now with a general divisor associated with a differential form, we provide a criterion when the topological zeta function on the target is just a multiple of the one on the source. Finally, we compare log canonical models on source and target with a view on zeta functions.

An algorithm for annihilator and Bernstein-Sato polynomial of a rational function

The singularity theory of rational functions, i.e., the quotient of two polynomials, has been investigated in the past two decades. The Bernstein-Sato polynomial of a rational function has recently been introduced by Takeuchi. However, only trivial examples are known. We provide an algorithm for computing the Bernstein-Sato polynomial in this context. The strategy is to compute the annihilator of the rational function by using the annihilator of the pair consisting of the numerator and denominator of the quotient. In a natural way a non-vanishing condition on the Bernstein-Sato ideal of the pair appears. This method has been implemented in freely available computer algebra system SINGULAR. It relies on Gröbner bases in noncommutative PBW algebras. The algorithm allows us to exhibit some explicit non-trivial examples and to support some existing conjectures.

$F$-pure thresholds and $F$-Volumes of some non principal ideals

We compute the $F$-pure threshold of some non-principal ideals which satisfy a geometric generic condition about their Newton polyhedron. We also contribute some evidence in favor of the conjectured equality between the $F$-pure threshold and the log canonical threshold of ideals for infinitely many primes $p$. These results are obtained by generalizing the theory of splitting polytopes to the case of ideals. As an application of our results we obtain geometric lower bounds for the recently introduced $F$-volume of a collection of ideals.

Bernstein-Sato polynomial and related invariants for meromorphic functions

We develop a theory of Bernstein-Sato polynomials for meromorphic functions and we use it to study the analytic continuation of Archimedian local zeta functions in this setting. We also introduce both an analytic and an algebraic theory of multiplier ideals for meromorphic functions and relate the jumping numbers of these multiplier ideals to the roots of the Bernstein-Sato polynomials.

Archimedean Zeta Functions and Oscillatory Integrals

This note is a short survey of two topics: Archimedean zeta functions and Archimedean oscillatory integrals. We have tried to portray some of the history of the subject and some of its connections with similar devices in mathematics. We present some of the main results of the theory and at the end we discuss some generalizations of the classical objects.

Graphs, local zeta functions, Log-Coulomb Gases, and phase transitions at finite temperature

We study a log-gas on a network (a finite, simple graph) confined in a bounded subset of a local field (i.e. R, C, Q_{p} the field of p-adic numbers). In this gas, a log-Coulomb interaction between two charged particles occurs only when the sites of the particles are connected by an edge of the network. The partition functions of such gases turn out to be a particular class of multivariate local zeta functions attached to the network and a positive test function which is determined by the confining potential. The methods and results of the theory of local zeta functions allow us to establish that the partition functions admit meromorphic continuations in the parameter \b{eta} (the inverse of the absolute temperature). We give conditions on the charge distributions and the confining potential such that the meromorphic continuations of the partition functions have a pole at a positive value \b{eta}_{UV}, which implies the existence of phase transitions at finite temperature. In the case of p-adic fields the meromorphic continuations of the partition functions are rational functions in the variable p^{-\b{eta}}. We give an algorithm for computing such rational functions. For this reason, we can consider the p-adic log-Coulomb gases as exact solvable models. We expect that all these models for different local fields share common properties, and that they can be described by a uniform theory.

A new class of $p$-adic Lipschitz functions and multidimensional Hensel's Lemma

In this work we study $p$-adic continuous functions in several variables taking values on $\mathbb{Z}_p$. We describe the orthonormal van der Put base of these functions and study various Lipschitz conditions in several variables, generalizing previous work of Anashin. In particular, we introduce a new class of $p$-adic Lipschitz functions and study some of their properties. We also prove a Hensel's lifting lemma for this new class of functions, generalizing previous results of Yurova and Khrennikov.

Motivic Zeta Functions on $\mathds{Q}$-Gorenstein Varieties

We study motivic zeta functions for $\mathds{Q}$-divisors in a $\mathds{Q}$-Gorenstein variety. By using a toric partial resolution of singularities we reduce this study to the local case of two normal crossing divisors where the ambient space is an abelian quotient singularity. For the latter we provide a closed formula which is worked out directly on the quotient singular variety. As a first application we provide a family of surface singularities where the use of weighted blow-ups reduces the set of candidate poles drastically. We also present an example of a quotient singularity under the action of a nonabelian group, from which we compute some invariants of motivic nature after constructing a $\mathds{Q}$-resolution.

On Archimedean Zeta Functions and Newton Polyhedra

Let $f$ be a polynomial function over the complex numbers and let $ϕ$ be a smooth function over $\mathbb{C}$ with compact support. When $f$ is non-degenerate with respect to its Newton polyhedron, we give an explicit list of candidate poles for the complex local zeta function attached to $f$ and $ϕ$. The provided list is given just in terms of the normal vectors to the supporting hyperplanes of the Newton polyhedron attached to $f$. More precisely, our list does not contain the candidate poles coming from the additional vectors required in the regular conical subdivision of the first orthant, and necessary in the study of local zeta functions through resolution of singularities. Our results refine the corresponding results of Varchenko and generalize the results of Denef and Sargos in the real case, to the complex setting.

Igusa's Local Zeta Functions and Exponential Sums for Arithmetically Non Degenerate Polynomials

We study the twisted local zeta function associated to a polynomial in two variables with coefficients in a non-Archimedean local field of arbitrary characteristic. Under the hypothesis that the polynomial is arithmetically non degenerate, we obtain an explicit list of candidates for the poles in terms of geometric data obtained from a family of arithmetic Newton polygons attached to the polynomial. The notion of arithmetical non degeneracy due to Saia and Zúñiga-Galindo is weaker than the usual notion of non degeneracy due to Kouchnirenko. As an application we obtain asymptotic expansions for certain exponential sums attached to these polynomials.

An Explicit Formula for the Local zeta Function of a Laurent Polynomial

In a recent paper Zúñiga-Galindo and the author begun the study of the local zeta functions for Laurent polynomials. In this work we continue this study by giving a very explicit formula for the local zeta function associated to a Laurent polynomial $f$ over a $p-$adic field, when $f$ is weakly non-degenerate with respect to the Newton polytope of $f$ at infinity.
