Ephemeral Modules and Scott Sheaves on a Continuous Poset

By utilizing domain theory, we generalize the notion of an ephemeral module to the so-called continuous posets. We investigate the quotient category of persistence modules by the Serre subcategory of ephemeral modules and show that it is equivalent to the category of sheaves on the Scott topology. Furthermore, we study the metric properties of persistence modules via this equivalence.

Flat covers and injective hulls of persistence modules

Motivated by recent progress in topological data analysis, we establish a Matlis duality between injective hulls and flat covers of persistence modules. This extends to a duality between minimal flat and minimal injective resolutions. We utilize the theory of flat cotorsion modules and flat covers developed by Enochs and Xu. By means of this theory we can work with persistence modules which are not tame or even pointwise finite-dimensional.

Finite presentation of finitely determined modules

In this article we study certain notions of `tameness' for the persistence modules studied in topological data analysis. In particular, we show that after adding infinitary points the so called finitely determined modules become finitely presented.

Generalized persistence and graded structures

We investigate the correspondence between generalized persistence modules and graded modules in the case the indexing set has a monoid action. We introduce the notion of an action category over a monoid graded ring. We show that the category of additive functors from this category to the category of Abelian groups is isomorphic to the category of modules graded over the set with a monoid action, and to the category of unital modules over a certain smash product. Furthermore, when the indexing set is a poset, we provide a new characterization for a generalized persistence module being finitely presented.

A formula for jumping numbers in a two-dimensional regular local ring

In this article we give an explicit formula for the jumping numbers of an ideal of finite colenght in a two-dimensional regular local ring with an algebraically closed residue field. For this purpose, we associate a certain numerical semigroup to each vertex of the dual graph of a log-resolution of the ideal.

Canonical modules of complexes

We define the notion of the canonical module of a complex. We then consider Serre's conditions for a complex and study their relationship to the local cohomology of the canonical module and its ring of endomorphisms.

G-Gorenstein complexes

We present in the context of Gorenstein homological algebra the notion of a "G-Gorenstein complex" as the counterpart of the classical notion of a Gorenstein complex. In particular, we investigate equivalences between the category of G-Gorenstein complexes of fixed dimension and the G-class of modules.

Jumping numbers and ordered tree structures on the dual graph

Let R be a two-dimensional regular local ring having an algebraically closed residue field and let a be a complete ideal of finite colength in R. In this article we investigate the jumping numbers of a by means of the dual graph of the minimal log resolution of the pair (X,a). Our main result is a combinatorial criterium for a positive rational number to be a jumping number. In particular, we associate to each jumping number certain ordered tree structures on the dual graph.

A Note on the Buchsbaum-Rim function of a parameter module

In this article, we prove that the Buchsbaum-Rim function $\ell_A(§_{ν+1}(F)/N^{ν+1})$ of a parameter module $N$ in $F$ is bounded above by $e(F/N) \binom{ν+d+r-1}{d+r-1}$ for every integer $ν\geq 0$. Moreover, it turns out that the base ring $A$ is Cohen-Macaulay once the equality holds for some integer $ν$. As a direct consequence, we observe that the first Buchsbaum-Rim coefficient $e_1(F/N)$ of a parameter module $N$ is always non-positive.

A Note on the Buchsbaum-Rim multiplicity of a parameter module

In this article we prove that the Buchsbaum-Rim multiplicity $e(F/N)$ of a parameter module $N$ in a free module $F=A^r$ is bounded above by the colength $\ell_A(F/N)$. Moreover, we prove that once the equality $\ell_A(F/N)=e(F/N)$ holds true for some parameter module $N$ in $F$, then the base ring $A$ is Cohen-Macaulay.

Core versus graded core and global sections of line bundles

We find formulas for the graded core of certain m-primary ideals in a graded ring. In particular, if S is the section ring of an ample line bundle on a Cohen-Macaulay complex projective variety, we show that under suitable hypothesis, the core and graded core of the ideal of S generated by all elements of degrees at least N (for some, equivalently every, large N) are equal if and only if the line bundle admits a non-zero global section. We also prove a formula for the graded core of the powers of the unique homogeneous maximal ideal in a standard graded Cohen-Macaulay ring of arbitrary characteristic. Several open problems are posed whose solutions would lead to progress on a non-vanishing conjecture of Kawamata.

On a Non-Vanishing Conjecture of Kawamata and the Core of an Ideal

We show that under suitable hypothesis (which are sharp in certain sense) that the core of an m-primary ideal in a regular local ring of dimension d is equal to the adjoint (or multiplier) ideal of its d-th power, generalizing a result of Huneke and Swanson in dimension two. We also prove a version of this in the singular setting, which we show to be intimately related to the problem of finding global sections of ample line bundles on projective varieties. In particular, we show that a graded analog of our formula for core would imply a remarkable conjecture of Kawamata predicting that every ample adjoint bundle has a non-trivial section.
