Correlator with tensor currents and two masses at two loops

We calculate the vacuum-to-vacuum correlator of two quark tensor currents with two massive quarks, retaining full momentum dependence. For the first time, we include perturbative corrections up to next-to-leading order. Our fully analytical expressions are provided in machine-readable form. Furthermore, we present numerical results for various input parameters, including an estimate of the scale uncertainties. Our results are essential input for applications of dispersive methods, including unitarity bounds and QCD sum rules.

Computation of FCC-ee Sensitivity to Heavy New Physics with Interactions of Any Flavor Structure

We present a tool to compute the sensitivity of the Future Circular Electron--Positron Collider (FCC-ee) to the interactions of new, heavy particles via publicly available extensions to the smelli and flavio computer programs. We parameterize new particles' effects without any flavor assumptions and take into account the projected experimental and correlated theoretical uncertainties of various electroweak and Higgs observables at the proposed collider. We illustrate a use of the tool by estimating the sensitivity of the FCC-ee to a $Z^\prime$ model with flavor-specific couplings which explains anomalies inferred from present-day measurements and Standard Model predictions of observables that involve the $b \rightarrow s \ell^+ \ell^-$ transition.

Froggatt-Nielsen Meets the SMEFT

We study the matching of Froggatt-Nielsen theories of flavour onto the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), upon integrating out a heavy Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) scalar `flavon' whose vacuum expectation value breaks an Abelian flavour symmetry at energies $Λ_\text{FN}$ well above the electroweak scale, $Λ_\text{FN} > Λ_\text{SM}$. We include matching contributions to the infrared $d_\text{SM}=6$ (Warsaw basis) SMEFT sourced from ultraviolet contact terms suppressed up to order $1 / Λ_\text{UV}^2$ in the Froggatt-Nielsen Lagrangian, where $Λ_\text{UV} > Λ_\text{FN}$ is an arbitrary deep-ultraviolet scale where further unspecified BSM particles are dynamical. This includes tree-level (one-loop) ultraviolet diagrams with $d_{\text{FN}}=6$ $(5)$ effective vertices. We first do so with a toy model, but then generalize our findings to arbitrary Frogatt-Nielsen charges. Our results indicate a rich and non-trivial signature of Froggatt-Nielsen theories on the (otherwise) model-independent operators of the SMEFT, and we briefly speculate on extending our analysis to broader classes of BSM flavour models, e.g. non-Abelian and/or gauged theories. We thus take an important step towards determining how to use rapidly developing theoretical and experimental SMEFT technologies to gain unambiguous insight into the SM's longstanding fermion flavour puzzle.

Searching for the flavon at current and future colliders

The $ B_3 - L_2$ $ Z' $ model may explain certain features of the fermion mass spectrum as well as the $b \rightarrow s μ^+ μ^-$ anomalies. The $ Z' $ acquires its mass via a TeV-scale scalar field, the flavon, whose vacuum expectation value spontaneously breaks the family non-universal gauged $ U(1)_{B_3 - L_2} $ symmetry. We review the key features of the model, with an emphasis on its scalar potential and the flavon field, and use experimental data and perturbativity arguments to place bounds upon the Higgs-flavon mixing angle. Finally, we discuss flavonstrahlung as a means to discover the flavon experimentally and compute flavonstrahlung cross-sections at current and future colliders.

Flavonstrahlung in the $B_3-L_2$ $Z'$ Model at Current and Future Colliders

The $B_3-L_2$ $Z^\prime$ model may explain some gross features of the fermion mass spectrum as well as $b\rightarrow s \ell \ell$ anomalies. A TeV-scale physical scalar field associated with gauged $U(1)_{B_3-L_2}$ spontaneous symmetry breaking, the flavon field $\vartheta$, affects Higgs phenomenology via mixing. In this paper, we investigate the collider phenomenology of the flavon field. Higgs and $W$ boson mass data are used to place bounds upon parameter space. We then examine flavonstrahlung (${Z^\prime} \rightarrow Z^\prime \vartheta$ production) at colliders as a means to directly produce and discover flavon particles, providing direct empirical evidence tying it to $U(1)_{B_3-L_2}$ symmetry breaking. A 100 TeV FCC-hh or a 10 TeV muon collider would have high sensitivity to flavonstrahlung, whereas the HL-LHC can observe it only in extreme corners of parameter space.

Thermodynamic uncertainty relations for coherently driven open quantum systems

In classical Markov jump processes, current fluctuations can only be reduced at the cost of increased dissipation. To explore how quantum effects influence this trade-off, we analyze the uncertainty of steady-state currents in Markovian open quantum systems. We first consider three instructive examples and then systematically minimize the product of uncertainty and entropy production for small open quantum systems. As our main result, we find that the thermodynamic cost of reducing fluctuations can be lowered below the classical bound by coherence. We conjecture that this cost can be made arbitrarily small in quantum systems with sufficiently many degrees of freedom. Our results thereby provide a general guideline for the design of thermal machines in the quantum regime that operate with high thermodynamic precision, meaning low dissipation and small fluctuations around average values.
