Cofactors and eigenvectors of banded Toeplitz matrices: Trench formulas via skew Schur polynomials

The Jacobi-Trudi formulas imply that the minors of the banded Toeplitz matrices can be written as certain skew Schur polynomials. In 2012, Alexandersson expressed the corresponding skew partitions in terms of the indices of the struck-out rows and columns. In the present paper, we develop the same idea and obtain some new applications. First, we prove a slight generalization and modification of Alexandersson's formula. Then, we deduce corollaries about the cofactors and eigenvectors of banded Toeplitz matrices, and give new simple proofs to the corresponding formulas published by Trench in 1985.

From convergence in distribution to uniform convergence

We present conditions that allow us to pass from the convergence of probability measures in distribution to the uniform convergence of the associated quantile functions. Under these conditions, one can in particular pass from the asymptotic distribution of collections of real numbers, such as the eigenvalues of a family of $n$-by-$n$ matrices as $n$ goes to infinity, to their uniform approximation by the values of the quantile function at equidistant points. For Hermitian Toeplitz-like matrices, convergence in distribution is ensured by theorems of the Szegő type. Our results transfer these convergence theorems into uniform convergence statements.

Radial Toeplitz operators on the Fock space and square-root-slowly oscillating sequences

In this paper we show that the C*-algebra generated by radial Toeplitz operators with $L_{\infty}$-symbols acting on the Fock space is isometrically isomorphic to the C*-algebra of bounded sequences uniformly continuous with respect to the square-root-metric $ρ(j,k)=|\sqrt{\vphantom{jk}j}-\sqrt{\vphantom{jk}k}\,|$. More precisely, we prove that the sequences of eigenvalues of radial Toeplitz operators form a dense subset of the latter C*-algebra of sequences.
