Scalar QED effective action in dS: implications for primordial magnetogenesis and the running of coupling constants

Particles creation and vacuum polarization under the influence of both an electromagnetic field and a de~Sitter (dS) spacetime nonperturbatively probes quantum electrodynamics (QED) and quantum gravitational effects. By applying the gamma-function regularization to the in-out formulation, we find the exact one-loop effective action in the proper-time integral representation for a charged scalar field in a uniform electric field and a parallel magnetic field in a dS spacetime. It reduces to the one-loop scalar QED Weisskopf-Schwinger effective action in the limit of Minkowski spacetime and the one-loop effective action in the pure dS spacetime. After carefully considering the different limiting cases, a striking result concerns the effective strengths of the coupling constants in the pure strong electric field limit. Our study provides further evidence for evolution of Newton's gravitational constant under the influence of the external fields. Remarkably, the analysis of the effective potential shows that the leading order contributions to the vacuum polarization amplitude, depending on the nonminimal coupling threshold, give a nonzero vacuum expectation value of the magnetic field. This mechanism generates a large magnetic field in the early dS stage of the expansion that may imply primordial magnetogenesis.

Induced energy-momentum tensor in de Sitter scalar QED and its implication for induced current

The aim of this research is to investigate the vacuum energy-momentum tensor of a quantized, massive, nonminimally coupled scalar field induced by a uniform electric field background in a four-dimensional de Sitter spacetime ($\dsf$). We compute the expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor in the in-vacuum state and then regularize it using the adiabatic subtraction procedure. The correct trace anomaly of the induced energy-momentum tensor that confirmed our results is significant. The nonconservation equation for the induced energy-momentum tensor imposes the renormalization condition for the induced electric current of the scalar field. The findings of this research indicate that there are significant differences between the two induced currents which are regularized by this renormalization condition and the minimal subtraction condition.

Energy-momentum tensor and effective Lagrangian of scalar QED with a nonminimal coupling in 2D de Sitter spacetime

We have studied the induced one-loop energy-momentum tensor of a massive complex scalar field within the framework of nonperturbative quantum electrodynamics (QED) with a uniform electric field background on the Poincaré patch of the two-dimensional de Sitter spacetime ($\mathrm{dS_{2}}$). We also consider a direct coupling the scalar field to the Ricci scalar curvature which is parameterized by an arbitrary dimensionless nonminimal coupling constant. We evaluate the trace anomaly of the induced energy-momentum tensor. We show that our results for the induced energy-momentum tensor in the zero electric field case, and the trace anomaly are in agreement with the existing literature. Furthermore, we construct the one-loop effective Lagrangian from the induced energy-momentum tensor.

Induced energy-momentum tensor of Dirac field in 2D de Sitter QED

We compute the expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor in the in-vacuum state of the quantized Dirac field coupled to a uniform electric field background on the Poincar$\rm\acute{e}$ path of the two dimensional de~Sitter spacetime ($\mathrm{dS}_{2}$). The adiabatic regularization scheme is applied to remove the ultraviolet divergencies from the expressions. We find, the off-diagonal components of the induced energy-momentum tensor vanishes and the absolute values of the diagonal components are increasing functions of the electric field which decrease as the Dirac field mass increases. We derive the trace anomaly of the induced energy-momentum tensor, which agrees precisely with the trace anomaly derived earlier in the literature. We have discusses the backreaction of the induced energy-momentum tensor on the gravitational field.

Effect of Schwinger pair production on the evolution of the Hubble constant in de~Sitter spacetime

In this proceeding we consider a massive charged scalar field in a uniform electric field background in a de~Sitter spacetime (dS). We compute the in-vacuum expectation value of the trace of the energy-momentum tensor for the created Schwinger pairs, and using adiabatic subtraction scheme the trace is regularized. The effect of the Schwinger pair creation on the evolution of the Hubble constant is investigated. We find that the production of the semiclassical pairs leads to a decay of the Hubble constant. Whereas, the production of a light scalar field in the weak electric field regime leads to a superacceleration phenomenon.

Effect of a magnetic field on Schwinger mechanism in de Sitter spacetime

We investigate the effect of a constant magnetic field background on the scalar QED pair production in a four-dimensional de Sitter spacetime ($\dsf$). We have obtained the pair production rate which agrees with the known Schwinger result in the limit of Minkowski spacetime and with the Hawking radiation in de Sitter spacetime (dS) in the zero electric field limit. Our results describe how the cosmic magnetic field affects the pair production rate in cosmological setups. In addition, using the zeta function regularization scheme we have calculated the induced current and examined the effect of a magnetic field on the vacuum expectation value of the current operator. We find that, in the case of a strong electromagnetic background the current responds as $E\cdot B$, while in the infrared regime, it responds as $B/E$, which leads to a phenomenon of infrared hyperconductivity. These results of the induced current have important applications for the cosmic magnetic field evolution.

Scalar current of created pairs by Schwinger mechanism in de Sitter spacetime

We consider a charged scalar field in a $D$-dimensional de Sitter spacetime and investigate pair creation by a Schwinger mechanism in a constant electric field background. Using a semiclassical approximation the current of the created pairs has been estimated. We find that the semiclassical current of the created pairs in the strong electric field limit responds as $E^{\frac{D}{2}}$. Going further but restricting to $D=3$ dimensional de Sitter spacetime, the quantum expectation value of the spacelike component of the induced current has been computed in the in-vacuum state by applying an adiabatic subtraction scheme. We find that, in the strong electric field limit, the current responds as $E^{\frac{3}{2}}$. In the weak electric field limit the current has a linear response in $E$ and an inverse dependence on the mass of the scalar field. In the case of a massless scalar field, the current varies with $E^{-1}$ which leads to a phenomenon of infrared hyperconductivity. A new relation between infrared hyperconductivity, tachyons, and conformality is discussed, and a scheme to avoid an infrared hyperconductivity regime is proposed. In $D$ dimension, we eventually presented some first estimates of the backreaction of the Schwinger pairs to the gravitational field, and we find a decrease of the Hubble constant due to the pair creation.

High-energy neutrino emission in gravitational collapses

In this article, we present a study of high-energy neutrino emission in gravitational collapse. A compact star is treated as a complete degenerate Fermi gas of neutrons, protons and electrons. In gravitational collapse, its density reaches the thresholds for muon and pion productions, leading to high-energy neutrinos production. By using adiabatic approximation that macroscopic collapsing processes are much slower than microscopic processes of particle interactions, we adopt equilibrium equations of microscopic processes to obtain the number of neutrino productions. Assuming 10% of variation in gravitational binding energy converted to the energy of produced neutrinos, we obtain fluxes of 10MeV electron-neutrinos and GeV electron and muon neutrinos. In addition, we compute the ratio (< 1) of total muon neutrino number to the total electron neutrino number at the source and at the Earth considering neutrino oscillations. We approximately obtain the number of GeV antineutrino events (\gtrsim 1) in an ordinary detector such as Kamiokande and total energy of neutrino flux (\gtrsim 10^{53} erg), as a function of collapsing star mass.
