Biomazon: A Multimodal Dataset for 3D Forest Structure and Biomass Modeling in the Amazon Basin

Accurate, spatially explicit characterization of tropical forest structure is essential for carbon accounting and ecosystem monitoring, yet most ML pipelines predict canopy-top height proxies (e.g., RH95/RH98) or AGBD as separate scalar targets, rather than learning the forest vertical structure as an ordered profile. The community lacks a ML-ready multimodal benchmark for predicting the entire GEDI RH profile jointly with AGBD, or for evaluating methods that enforce physically consistent ordering across RH percentiles. We address this with Biomazon, a 20 m multimodal benchmark dataset over the Amazon Basin that pairs GEDI RH and AGBD targets with multi-sensor predictors (Sentinel-1/2, ALOS-2 PALSAR-2, Copernicus DEM, Dynamic World LULC, and AlphaEarth embeddings) under standardized spatial splits and evaluation protocols. Using a shared encoder-decoder with task-specific heads as a baseline framework, we conduct a comprehensive ablation study of (i) backbone/model scale, (ii) modality contributions, and (iii) the use of auxiliary embeddings under standalone and fusion settings, and we report both single-target and joint-target results to quantify tradeoffs under a unified training protocol. Finally, we contextualize baseline performance through regionally aligned comparisons against existing gridded products, including GEDI L4D RH10-RH98 and AGBD, at matching temporal scale. Biomazon, together with the accompanying protocols and baseline results, establishes a reference benchmark for future work on structurally consistent RH-profile prediction and structure-biomass modeling in tropical forests.

Localizing an Unknown Number of mmW Transmitters Under Path Loss Model Uncertainties

This work estimates the position and the transmit power of multiple co-channel wireless transmitters under model uncertainties. The model uncertainties include the number of the targets and the parameters of the path-loss model which enable the system to cope with changes in the weather conditions and in mmW ranges. The problem is solved by an unbiased estimator. The underlying complicated optimization problem has a combinatorial nature that selects the best grid points as the location of the targets. The combinatorial problem is converted to a convex form by means of l1-regularization, which enables locating off-grid targets. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm solves the problem with very high accuracy in the absence of noise and shadowing.

A Modified Levenberg-Marquardt Method for the Bidirectional Relay Channel

This paper presents an optimization approach for a system consisting of multiple bidirectional links over a two-way amplify-and-forward relay. It is desired to improve the fairness of the system. All user pairs exchange information over one relay station with multiple antennas. Due to the joint transmission to all users, the users are subject to mutual interference. A mitigation of the interference can be achieved by max-min fair precoding optimization where the relay is subject to a sum power constraint. The resulting optimization problem is non-convex. This paper proposes a novel iterative and low complexity approach based on a modified Levenberg-Marquardt method to find near optimal solutions. The presented method finds solutions close to the standard convex-solver based relaxation approach.

A Non-Alternating Algorithm for Joint BS-RS Precoding Design in Two-Way Relay Systems

Cooperative relay systems have become an active area of research during recent years since they help cellular networks to enhance data rate and coverage. In this paper we develop a method to jointly optimize precoding matrices for amplify-and-forward relay station and base station. Our objective is to increase max-min SINR fairness within co-channel users in a cell. The main achievement of this work is avoiding any tedious alternating optimization for joint design of RS/BS precoders, in order to save complexity. Moreover, no convex solver is required in this method. RS precoding is done by transforming the underlying non-convex problem into a system of nonlinear equations which is then solved using Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. This method for RS precoder design is guaranteed to converge to a local optimum. For the BS precoder a low-complexity iterative method is proposed. The efficiency of the joint optimization method is verified by simulations.
