Enhancing superconductivity using thermal bosons

We investigate how the strong coupling of a superconductor to thermal bosons can enhance its superconducting critical temperature. To tackle this problem, we use a renormalization group approach that allows us to describe the competition between density fluctuations and the build-up of boson-induced attraction between fermions. Capturing the mutual influence of bosonic and fermionic sectors, the self-consistent renormalization group framework predicts a robust increase of the critical temperature across a wide range of interactions. We find a nontrivial dependence of the critical temperature on the boson mass and we establish a phase diagram for enhanced superconductivity driven by bosons being either in the condensed or thermal state. We outline possible experimental realizations in cold atomic systems and discuss implementations using electron-exciton mixtures in van der Waals material heterostructures.

Cavity-induced charge transfer in periodic systems: length-gauge formalism

We develop a length-gauge formalism for treating one-dimensional periodic lattice systems in the presence of a photon cavity inducing light-matter interaction. The purpose of the formalism is to remove mathematical ambiguities that occur when defining the position operator in the context of the Power-Zienau-Woolley Hamiltonian. We then use a diagrammatic approach to analyze perturbatively the interaction between an electronic quantum system and a photonic cavity mode of long wavelength. We illustrate the versatility of the formalism by studying the cavity-induced electric charge imbalance and polarization in the Rice-Mele model with broken inversion symmetry.

Two-photon pulse scattering spectroscopy for arrays of two-level atoms, coupled to the waveguide

We have theoretically studied the scattering of two-photon pulses from a spatially-separated array of two-level atoms coupled to the waveguide. A general analytical expression for the scattered pulse has been obtained. The contributions of various single-eigenstate and double-excited eigenstates of the array have been analyzed. We have also calculated the dependence of the time incident photons are stored in the array on its period and the number of atoms. The largest storage times correspond to the structures with the anti-Bragg period, equal to the quarter of the wavelength of light at the atom resonance frequency $λ/4$.
