Modules of minimal multiplicity over one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings

We study finitely generated modules of minimal multiplicity, a notion introduced by Puthenpurakal that extends the classical concept of minimal multiplicity from rings to modules. Our main result characterizes when trace ideals or reflexive ideals yield modules of minimal multiplicity over one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings. As a consequence, we show that a one-dimensional non-Gorenstein reduced local ring with a canonical module has minimal multiplicity if and only if its canonical module has minimal multiplicity as a module. We also construct several examples and compare them with Burch and Ulrich modules, highlighting cases where minimal multiplicity coincides with the Burch or Ulrich property.

Full-Trace Modules

Motivated by the definition of nearly Gorenstein rings, we introduce the notion of full-trace modules over commutative Noetherian local rings--namely, finitely generated modules whose trace equals the maximal ideal. We investigate the existence of such modules and prove that, over rings that are neither regular nor principal ideal rings, every positive syzygy module of the residue field is full-trace. Moreover, over Cohen-Macaulay rings, we study full-trace Ulrich modules--that is, maximally generated maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules that are full-trace. We establish the following characterization: a non-regular Cohen-Macaulay local ring has minimal multiplicity if and only if it admits a full-trace Ulrich module. Finally, for numerical semigroup rings with minimal multiplicity, we show that each full-trace Ulrich module decomposes as the direct sum of the maximal ideal and a module that is either zero or Ulrich.

On the vanishing of self extensions of even-periodic modules

In this paper we study rigid modules over commutative Noetherian local rings, establish new freeness criteria for certain periodic rigid modules, and extend several results from the literature. Along the way, we prove general Ext vanishing results over Cohen-Macaulay rings and investigate modules which have zero class in the reduced Grothendieck group with rational coefficients.

Traces of semi-invariants

This article investigates the traces of certain modules over rings of invariants associated with finite groups. More precisely, we provide a formula for computing the traces of arbitrary semi-invariants, thereby contributing to the understanding of the non-Gorenstein locus of rings of invariants. Additionally, we discuss applications of this formula, including criteria for rings of invariants to be Gorenstein on the punctured spectrum and nearly Gorenstein, as well as criteria for semi-invariants to be locally free.

On a generalization of Ulrich modules and its applications

We study a modified version of the classical Ulrich modules, which we call $c$-Ulrich. Unlike the traditional setting, $c$-Ulrich modules always exist. We prove that these modules retain many of the essential properties and applications observed in the literature. Additionally, we reveal their significance as obstructions to Cohen-Macaulay properties of tensor products. Leveraging this insight, we show the utility of these modules in testing the finiteness of homological dimensions across various scenarios.

Classifying Betti Numbers of Fiber Products

We consider fiber products of complete, local, noetherian algebras over a fixed residue field. Some of these rings cannot be minimally resolved with a free resolution using the recent work of the second author. We develop techniques to modify Geller's approach in order to recover the Betti numbers and Poincaré series for these fiber products.

On the ubiquity of Arf rings

We introduce and develop the theory of weakly Arf rings, which is a generalization of Arf rings, initially defined by J. Lipman in 1971. We provide characterizations of weakly Arf rings and study the relation between these rings, the Arf rings, and the strict closedness of rings. Furthermore, we give various examples of weakly Arf rings that come from idealizations, fiber products, determinantal rings, and invariant subrings.

Semidualizing Modules over Numerical Semigroup Rings

A semidualizing module is a generalization of Grothendieck's dualizing module. For a local Cohen-Macaulay ring $R$, the ring itself and its canonical module are always realized as (trivial) semidualizing modules. Reasonably, one might ponder the question; when do nontrivial examples exist? In this paper, we study this question in the realm of numerical semigroup rings and completely classify which of these rings with multiplicity at most 9 possess a nontrivial semidualizing module. Using this classification, we construct numerical semigroup rings in any multiplicity at least 9 possesses a nontrivial semidualizing module.

Almost Gorenstein determinantal rings of symmetric matrices

We provide a characterization of the almost Gorenstein property of determinantal rings of a symmetric matrix of indeterminates over an infinite field. We give an explicit formula for ranks of the last two modules in the resolution of determinantal rings using Schur functors.

Rees algebras of sparse determinantal ideals

We determine the defining equations of the Rees algebra and of the special fiber ring of the ideal of maximal minors of a $2\times n$ sparse matrix. We prove that their initial algebras are ladder determinantal rings. This allows us to show that the Rees algebra and the special fiber ring are Cohen-Macaulay domains, they are Koszul, they have rational singularities in characteristic zero and are F-rational in positive characteristic.

Generalized Gorenstein Arf rings

In this paper we study generalized Gorenstein Arf rings; a class of one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local Arf rings that is strictly contained in the class of Gorenstein rings. We obtain new characterizations and examples of Arf rings, and give applications of our argument to numerical semigroup rings and certain idealizations. In particular, we generalize a beautiful result of Barucci and Fröberg concerning Arf numerical semigroup rings.

Associated Graded Rings and Connected Sums

In 2012, Ananthnarayan, Avramov and Moore gave a new construction of Gorenstein rings from two Gorenstein local rings, called their connected sum. In this article, we investigate conditions on the associated graded ring of a Gorenstein Artin local ring Q, which force it to be a connected sum over its residue field. In particular, we recover some results regarding short, and stretched, Gorenstein Artin rings. Finally, using these decompositions, we obtain results about the rationality of the Poincare series of Q.

Decomposing Gorenstein Rings as Connected Sums

In 2012, Ananthnarayan, Avramov and Moore give a new construction of Gorenstein rings from two Gorenstein local rings, called their connected sum. Given a Gorenstein ring, one would like to know whether it decomposes as a connected sum and if so, what are its components. We answer these questions in the Artinian case and investigate conditions on the ring which force it to be indecomposable as a connected sum. We further give a characterization for Gorenstein Artin local rings to be decomposable as connected sums, and as a consequence, obtain results about its Poincare series and minimal number of generators of its defining ideal. Finally, in the graded case, we show that the indecomposable components appearing in the connected sum decomposition are unique up to isomorphism.

Embeddings of canonical modules and resolutions of connected sums

For an ideal $I_{m,n}$ generated by all square-free monomials of degree $m$ in a polynomial ring $R$ with $n$ variables, we obtain a specific embedding of a canonical module of $R/I_{m,n}$ to $R/I_{m,n}$ itself. The construction of this explicit embedding depends on a minimal free $R$-resolution of an ideal generated by $I_{m,n}$. Using this embedding, we give a resolution of connected sums of several copies of certain Artinian $k$-algebras where $k$ is a field.
