Quantum Localization Limit of Transport-Based Femtoscopy

Femtoscopic correlations in proton-proton and heavy ion collisions are commonly calculated using emission sources from microscopic transport models, where emitted particles are represented by classical phase-space points with simultaneously specified positions and momenta. This point-emitter picture neglects the finite phase-space localization required by quantum mechanics, which can become relevant when the localization scale approaches the femtoscopic source size, particularly in small collision systems. We formulate a quantum treatment by replacing each transport phase-space point with a minimum-uncertainty Gaussian phase-space distribution. Finite localization then induces both spatial and momentum smearing; in the presence of coordinate-momentum correlations, the latter produces a nontrivial modification of the emission source. Using proton--proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7~\mathrm{TeV}$ simulated with the microscopic Parton--Hadron--String Dynamics transport approach, we show that this effect significantly modifies the proton-pair source and its momentum correlation. Our results expose a quantum localization effect overlooked in transport-based femtoscopy and establish the regime in which the classical point-emitter approximation is valid.

Formulation of fully covariant Quantum-Molecular Dynamics for an N-body system with scalar and vector potentials

We present a fully covariant transport framework for Molecular Dynamics that enables a consistent description of the evolution of relativistic N-body systems. We derive relativistic equations of motion of a system of particles interacting with both scalar and vector two body interactions within a manifestly covariant formulation. This approach, without approximations, addresses several fundamental issues in relativistic many-body dynamics: the implications of different choices of time-constraints, the emergence of the non-relativistic limit, the frame independence of the system's evolution, and the distinct dynamical roles of scalar and vector potentials. These aspects are investigated in detail for the scattering of two- and four-body systems, offering new insights into the consistency and physical interpretation of relativistic interactions in a covariant setting.

Charmonium production in p+A collisions at SPS and FAIR energies

We employ the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach to investigate the influence of baryon-rich matter on charmonium production and dissociation. The Remler formalism is implemented to dynamically model charmonium formation from charm-anticharm pairs. As a validation step, the formalism is first benchmarked against experimental data from elementary pp collisions and then extended to pA systems to extract the effective nuclear absorption cross section of charmonium. This extracted cross section can subsequently be applied in heavy-ion collisions to quantify medium-induced effects. Our results demonstrate that the Remler formalism provides a quantitatively consistent description of charmonium production in pp and pA collisions at SPS energies. The approach is then extrapolated to GSI/FAIR energies, where predictions for charmonium yields and survival probabilities are presented. These findings highlight the relevance of the Remler formalism as a dynamical framework for studying heavy-quark bound-state formation in baryon-rich matter and offer theoretical guidance for future experimental programs at SPS, FAIR and NICA aimed at mapping the QCD phase structure.

Probe charmonium-nucleon interactions in high energy proton-proton collisions

We investigate charmonium production and the charmonium-nucleon correlation function in pp collisions using the EPOS4+CATS framework. For the first time, the emission source of charmonium-proton pairs is dynamically generated and found to be non-Gaussian. This enables a femtoscopic extraction of the charmonium-proton interaction directly from experimental correlation functions. Both ground and excited charmonium states are included. We find that feed-down from excited charmonium states can induce sizable modifications to the observed prompt $J/ψ$-proton correlation function, even when the correlation deviates from unity by less than one, reflecting the stronger interactions of the excited states.

Resolving the $ϕ$-meson directed-flow puzzle by multi-step meson--baryon dynamics

Recent STAR measurements at fixed-target Beam Energy Scan energies have revealed an unexpectedly large directed flow of $ϕ$ mesons in Au+Au collisions, comparable to that of protons and $Λ$ baryons and much stronger than that of light strange mesons. Since the $ϕ$ is a hidden-strangeness meson with relatively weak interactions with non-strange hadrons, this observation has been interpreted as a possible signal of unconventional baryonic dynamics or exotic baryonic resonances coupled to the $ϕ$ channel. Within the framework of the Parton-Hadron-Quantum-Molecular-Dynamics(PHQMD) model, we demonstrate that in the high baryon density region, $ϕ$ mesons are produced predominantly through multi-step meson--baryon and meson--hyperon reactions, whose transition amplitudes are constrained by a coupled-channel $T$-matrix calculation based on an extended SU(6) chiral effective Lagrangian. Together with the in-medium broadening of the $ϕ$ spectral function, these baryon-driven production channels enhance near-threshold $ϕ$ production and imprint the collective motion of the baryon-rich source on the produced $ϕ$ mesons.

Transport coefficients of strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma including elastic and inelastic scattering within the dynamical quasiparticle model

We study the impact of inelastic gluon-radiation and absorption processes on the transport coefficients of the quark-gluon plasma within the dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM) in the temperature--baryon-chemical-potential plane $(T,μ_B)$. Extending the $2\rightarrow2$ baseline established in previous DQPM calculations, we include gluon-radiation $2\rightarrow3$ and the inverse gluon-absorption $3\rightarrow2$ scattering channels with massive partons and effective DQPM propagators and vertices. The corresponding momentum-dependent interaction rates and relaxation times are used to calculate the shear viscosity, bulk viscosity, electric conductivity, and baryon diffusion coefficient as functions of temperature $T$ and baryon chemical potential $μ_B$. Within the relaxation time approximation, we find that $2\leftrightarrow3$ contributions systematically reduce all considered transport coefficients relative to the $2\rightarrow2$ only results, in accordance with the decrease of the relaxation times. In the thermal regime explored here, however, this reduction remains moderate, since the investigated inelastic rates stay below the $2\rightarrow2$ ones over the considered $(T,μ_B)$ range. The inelastic channels become more relevant mainly for partonic scatterings at large momenta, which are thermally suppressed in the strongly interacting QGP. At $μ_B=0$, the resulting $η/s$, $ζ/s$, and $σ_Q/T$ are compatible with available lattice-QCD estimates within uncertainties. At finite $μ_B$, our results provide predictions for the transport properties of QCD matter relevant for beam-energy-scan programs.

Probing the QCD Phase Structure with Dileptons from SIS to LHC Energies

We study the properties of strongly interacting matter at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, with emphasis on dilepton probes of the QCD phase structure. The equilibrium QGP is described within the Dynamical QuasiParticle Model (DQPM), which reproduces the lattice-QCD equation of state and provides $μ_B$-dependent quasiparticle properties, transport coefficients, and thermal dilepton rates, including elastic and inelastic partonic processes. The dynamical evolution is modeled with the off-shell Parton--Hadron--String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, which consistently propagates partonic and hadronic degrees of freedom and incorporates chiral-symmetry restoration effects. We discuss the space--time evolution of heavy-ion collisions over a broad energy range and show that a small deconfined QGP core can already emerge at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\simeq 3.5$ GeV. We present, for the first time, the baryon-chemical-potential dependence of QGP thermal dilepton radiation in PHSD and demonstrate that its influence increases toward lower collision energies. The excitation function indicates that thermal QGP radiation can exceed dileptons from correlated charm decays in central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\lesssim 25$--$30$ GeV, making RHIC--BES and FAIR energies particularly promising for the direct observation of QGP electromagnetic radiation after subtraction of heavy-flavor and Drell--Yan contributions.

Charmonium production at SPS and FAIR energies

In this study we apply the Remler formalism to charmonium production at SPS and GSI/FAIR energies in order to investigate the effects of baryon-rich matter on charmonium production and dissociation in heavy-ion collisions within the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD). As a first step the Remler formalism is tested in p+p collisions and then applied to p+A collisions in order to extract the nuclear absorption cross section of charmonium, which is then utilized in heavy-ion collisions. We find that the Remler formalism successfully describes charmonium production in heavy-ion collisions at SPS energies when an in-medium heavy quark potential is implemented, in which $J/ψ$ dissociates near $T_c$. Finally the same formalism is applied to the low CERN/SPS energy and GSI/FAIR energies, where we estimate charmonium production.

Gaussian vs. Real Wavefunction of Nuclear Clusters and Hypernuclei

We compare realistic $N$-body wave functions obtained from solutions of the Schrödinger equation with Gaussian ansätze constrained to the same rms radius. The microscopic wave functions exhibit significantly broader spatial distributions, revealing pronounced non-Gaussian structures. In addition, we investigate possible production channels for $A=4$ clusters using a phenomenological two-body interaction. This study provides a potential mechanism that may help alleviate the underestimation of $A=4$ cluster yields in theoretical models compared to experimental data.

Accessing Exotic Hadronic States via Charmed-Meson Femtoscopy in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

The two-particle correlation function measured in femtoscopic analyses provides access to the interaction potentials between emitted particles. This offers a unique opportunity to investigate interactions among charmed mesons and to explore the nature of possible exotic hadronic states. In this Letter, we study femtoscopic correlations of various charmed-meson pairs in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The dynamical evolution of the system and charm hadron production are described within the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, while the correlation functions are computed using the Correlation Analysis Tool using the Schrödinger equation (CATS). We demonstrate that heavy-ion collisions provide a significantly more favorable environment than $pp$ collisions for accessing charmed meson femtoscopic correlations. This arises from enhanced charm-quark production, reduced relative momenta due to in-medium energy loss, and a strong suppression of initial-state correlations. Our results indicate that femtoscopic measurements in heavy-ion collisions offer a sensitive probe of charmed meson interactions and possible hadronic molecular states.

CNN-Based Online Trigger for QGP Event Selection

Modern high-rate experiments require rare physics signatures to be identified in real time from continuous streams of reconstructed events under stringent data-throughput and storage constraints. We present a convolutional-neural-network-based trigger concept for selecting events associated with quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formation. Events are encoded as compact multidimensional histograms of reconstructed particle content, including particle species, momentum magnitude, and angular information. The method is first evaluated within the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) framework, where microscopic QGP-related labels are available. As an independent validation, the same event representation and network architecture are applied to Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) simulations, providing a distinct description of the collision dynamics. Cross-checks between PHSD and UrQMD are used to assess the stability of the learned response against generator-dependent effects and to quantify model-transfer robustness. For realistic deployment, a lightweight C++ inference package, ANN4FLES, is employed at the physics-analysis stage after tracking and topology reconstruction. For Au+Au collisions at 30 AGeV, the classification accuracy decreases from 95.1% on generator-level PHSD events to 83.7% after full reconstruction, while retaining practical separation power for online event selection. SHAP-based interpretability analysis is used to identify the dominant particle-species contributions to the network decision.

Systematic study of flow of protons and light clusters in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions with momentum-dependent potentials

We study the influence of the nuclear equation-of-state (EoS) on collective observables -- the directed ($v_1$) and elliptic flow ($v_2$) of nucleons and light clusters -- in heavy-ion collisions at GeV energies using the Parton-Hadron-Quantum-Molecular Dynamics (PHQMD) approach. A novel development in this work is the inclusion of a momentum-dependent nucleon potential in the PHQMD in addition to the static, density-dependent Skyrme interaction. This enables three distinct EoS scenarios: two static ("soft" and "hard", differing in compressibility) and a soft, momentum-dependent EoS calibrated to $pA$ elastic scattering data. We find a strong EoS sensitivity in proton and cluster rapidity and $p_T$ distributions: soft and soft momentum-dependent EoS yield similar results, markedly different from the hard EoS. Softening the EoS reduces proton yields at midrapidity while enhancing light-cluster production. The EoS also affects flow observables differently for nucleons and clusters. For protons, a soft momentum-dependent potential increases slightly the magnitude of $v_1$ and $v_2$ relative to the hard EoS, whereas cluster flows are nearly similar. The soft momentum-dependent EoS provides an overall good agreement with experimental data from HADES and FOPI Collaborations while the soft EOS is not in line with the data. A scaling of $v_2$ with cluster mass number $A$ is observed at midrapidity for low $p_T$, which breaks at higher $p_T$. Finally, we examine the sensitivity of flow observables to deuteron production mechanisms. Deuterons formed via MST clustering exhibit different flow patterns from those produced by coalescence at freeze-out, indicating that flow harmonics may help discriminate between cluster formation scenarios.

Probing of EoS with clusters and hypernuclei

The study of the nuclear equation-of-state (EoS) is a one of the primary goals of experimental and theoretical heavy-ion physics. The comparison of recent high statistics data from the STAR Collaboration with transport models provides a unique possibility to address this topic in a yet unexplored energy domain. Employing the microscopic N-body Parton-Hadron-Quantum-Molecular Dynamics (PHQMD) transport approach, which allows to describe the propagation and interactions of hadronic and partonic degrees of freedom including cluster and hyper-nucleus formation and dynamics, we investigate the influence of different EoS on bulk observables, the multiplicity, $p_T$ and rapidity distributions of protons, $Λ$s and clusters up to A=4 as well as their influence on the collective flow. We explore three different EoS: two static EoS, dubbed 'soft' and 'hard', which differ in the compressibility modulus, as well as a soft momentum dependent EoS. We find that a soft momentum dependent EoS reproduces most baryon and cluster observables, including the flow observables, quantitatively, however, hard EOS show a similar trend.

Heavy flavor correlations and Quarkonia production in high energy pp collisions in the EPOS4 framework

In QCD, the production of heavy quark-antiquark pairs can proceed through different mechanisms, each imprinting characteristic correlations between the heavy quarks. In this work, we use the EPOS4 event generator to study how these correlations affect quarkonium production in pp collisions. Our results demonstrate that the observed correlations between heavy mesons directly reflect the underlying production mechanisms and simultaneously shape the transverse-momentum distributions of quarkonia.

Study on the equation-of-state with light clusters and hypernuclei

Heavy-ion collision experiments offer a unique opportunity to explore the early stages of the Universe by creating matter under extreme conditions of high temperature and baryon density. The properties of such matter are governed by the equation-of-state (EoS), which remains a central focus of investigation from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. Flow harmonics are among the most sensitive observables for probing the EoS, as they strongly reflect the underlying interactions and degrees of freedom of the system. In this article, we review the current status of our understanding of the EoS based on microscopic transport models, emphasizing comparisons with experimental data in the few GeV energy range.

Disentangling Initial-State and Evolution Effects in Heavy-Ion Collisions Using EPOS and PHSD

In this study we examine the impact of the initial stage and dynamical evolution on final-state observables in heavy-ion collisions. For this goal we develop a novel approach, EPOSir+PHSDe, which employs EPOS initial conditions as the starting point for parton and hadron evolution within the PHSD microscopic transport approach. By examining the space-time evolution of matter in this model and comparing to EPOS (which starts with an S-matrix approach for parallel scatterings for the initial conditions and uses a hydrodynamic evolution for the quark-gluon plasma stage with the UrQMD as afterburner) and PHSD (which starts with primary high energy $NN$ scattering realized via the LUND string model and continues with fully microscopic transport dynamics for strongly interacting partonic and hadronic matter), we identify the key differences in the final particle distributions among the three approaches. Our analysis focuses on rapidity, transverse momentum spectra, and flow harmonics $v_2$ for Au+Au collisions at the invariant energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV. We find a dominant influence of dynamical evolution over the initial conditions on the final observables.

Wigner Phase-Space Densities of Nuclear Clusters and Hypernuclei

We solve the Schrödinger equation for few-body systems to obtain the wave function for light nuclear clusters and hypernuclei from d to $\rm ^5_{ΛΛ}He$ employing realistic nucleon-nucleon and nucleon-$Λ$ potentials. We project the solution to the hyperspherical harmonic basis states to obtain the corresponding density matrices and the Wigner densities. The experimental root mean square (rms) radii and binding energies of the different clusters are well reproduced. The Wigner densities obtained will allow to improve the present coalescence approaches to identify clusters, created in heavy-ion collisions.

The influence of electromagnetic fields on the generation of the directed and elliptic flows of heavy quark in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We study the impact of self-generated electromagnetic fields (EMF) on the charm quarks momentum evolution in the partonic and hadronic medium created in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energy within the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) off-shell transport approach. In the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) phase, the charm quark interacts with the off-shell partons whose mass and widths are given by the Dynamical Quasi-Particle Model (DQPM), which can reproduce the lattice QCD thermodynamics. The background electromagnetic fields are computed dynamically within the PHSD considering both the spectators and participants protons as well as newly produced charged hadrons, quarks, and antiquarks, which reflects naturally the electric conductivity $σ_{el}$ of the medium. We study the directed and elliptic flow of the $D$ mesons in the presence of the electromagnetic fields. We find that electromagnetically induced splitting in the $D$ meson $v_1$ through $D^0$ and $\overline{D}^0$ mesons is consistent with the experimental data. Furthermore, we notice that the splitting in the heavy quark $v_1$ as a function of $p_T$ is more prominent as a probe of the produced electromagnetic fields. However, we find only a small impact of electromagnetic fields on the heavy quark elliptic flow $v_2$.
