Women in STEM: Interview with Iris Abt

We interviewed Iris Abt, who studied in Germany, being the only woman finishing studies in her course during that year. She then started her career in neutrino physics, moved to SLAC at the times of SLC, came back to Europe shaping part of the HERA program and made studies on germanium detectors.

Women in STEM: Interview with Halina Abramowicz

This short article is a first of a series describing the scientific journey of exceptional women scientists in experimental particle physics. We interviewed Halina Abramowicz, who started her career in hadron-hadron interactions, in neutrino physics, became an expert of strong interactions, guided the European Particle Physics Strategy Update in 2020 and now moved to an experiment in strong-field QED.

Higgs self-coupling measurements at the FCC-hh

The hadron collider phase of the Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) is a proton-proton collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV. It is one of the most ambitious projects planned for the rest of this century and offers ample opportunities in the hunt for new physics, both through its direct detection reach as well as through indirect evidence from precision measurements. Extracting a precision measurement of the Higgs self-coupling from the Higgs pair production cross-section will play a key role in our understanding of electroweak symmetry breaking, as the self-coupling gives insight into the nature of the Higgs potential. With the large data set of in total 30 $\text{ab}^{-1}$ which is envisioned to be collected during the FCC-hh runtime the Higgs self-coupling will be determined down to the percent level. This paper presents prospect studies for Higgs self-coupling measurements in the $b\bar{b}γγ$ and $b\bar{b}\ell\ell + E_{\text{T}}^{\text{miss}}$ final states, with the combined, expected precision on the Higgs self-coupling modifier $κ_λ$ reaching 3.2-5.7% at 68% confidence level, assuming all other Higgs couplings follow their Standard Model expectations and depending on the systematic uncertainties assumed. This high precision is mostly driven by the $b\bar{b}γγ$ final state analysis, while the $b\bar{b}\ell\ell + E_{\text{T}}^{\text{miss}}$ final state - newly studied for its FCC-hh prospects in this document - on its own reaches a maximum precision of roughly 20% on $κ_λ$.

Experimental results on searches beyond the Standard Model

Recent results for direct searches for physics beyond the Standard Model are reviewed. The results include Tevatron II data up to 1.2 fb-1 and HERA results up to 350 pb-1. Searches for Supersymmetry, for compositeness and for large extra dimensions are presented. The excess of events with an isolated lepton and high missing transverse momentum at HERA is discussed.

ZEUS Results

Several results from the ZEUS Collaboration were presented at this Workshop. The highlights are presented in this summary, and include results from NLO QCD fits and determination of alphas, from forward jets and diffractive final states, from pentaquarks and searches and from heavy flavour production. Also the first results from the analysis of the HERA II e+p/e-p data are shown.
