Projectivity and Birational Geometry of Bridgeland moduli spaces

We construct a family of nef divisor classes on every moduli space of stable complexes in the sense of Bridgeland. This divisor class varies naturally with the Bridgeland stability condition. For a generic stability condition on a K3 surface, we prove that this class is ample, thereby generalizing a result of Minamide, Yanagida, and Yoshioka. Our result also gives a systematic explanation of the relation between wall-crossing for Bridgeland-stability and the minimal model program for the moduli space. We give three applications of our method for classical moduli spaces of sheaves on a K3 surface: 1. We obtain a region in the ample cone in the moduli space of Gieseker-stable sheaves only depending on the lattice of the K3. 2. We determine the nef cone of the Hilbert scheme of n points on a K3 surface of Picard rank one when n is large compared to the genus. 3. We verify the "Hassett-Tschinkel/Huybrechts/Sawon" conjecture on the existence of a birational Lagrangian fibration for the Hilbert scheme in a new family of cases.

Bridgeland Stability conditions on threefolds I: Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequalities

We construct new t-structures on the derived category of coherent sheaves on smooth projective threefolds. We conjecture that they give Bridgeland stability conditions near the large volume limit. We show that this conjecture is equivalent to a Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality for the third Chern character of certain stable complexes. We also conjecture a stronger inequality, and prove it in the case of projective space, and for various examples. Finally, we prove a version of the classical Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality, not involving the third Chern character, for stable complexes.

Fano varieties of cubic fourfolds containing a plane

We prove that the Fano variety of lines of a generic cubic fourfold containing a plane is isomorphic to a moduli space of twisted stable complexes on a K3 surface. On the other hand, we show that the Fano varieties are always birational to moduli spaces of twisted stable coherent sheaves on a K3 surface. The moduli spaces of complexes and of sheaves are related by wall-crossing in the derived category of twisted sheaves on the corresponding K3 surface.

A categorical invariant for cubic threefolds

We prove a categorical version of the Torelli theorem for cubic threefolds. More precisely, we show that the non-trivial part of a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived category of a cubic threefold characterizes its isomorphism class.

The space of stability conditions on the local projective plane

We study the space of stability conditions on the total space of the canonical bundle over the projective plane. We explicitly describe a chamber of geometric stability conditions, and show that its translates via autoequivalences cover a whole connected component. We prove that this connected component is simply-connected. We determine the group of autoequivalences preserving this connected component, which turns out to be closely related to Gamma1(3). Finally, we show that there is a submanifold isomorphic to the universal covering of a moduli space of elliptic curves with Gamma1(3)-level structure. The morphism is Gamma1(3)-equivariant, and is given by solutions of Picard-Fuchs equations. This result is motivated by the notion of Pi-stability and by mirror symmetry.

Formal deformations and their categorical general fibre

We study the general fibre of a formal deformation over the formal disk of a projective variety from the view point of abelian and derived categories. The abelian category of coherent sheaves of the general fibre is constructed directly from the formal deformation and is shown to be linear over the field of Laurent series. The various candidates for the derived category of the general fibre are compared. If the variety is a surface with trivial canonical bundle, we show that the derived category of the general fibre is again a linear triangulated category with a Serre functor given by the square of the shift functor.

Infinitesimal Derived Torelli Theorem for K3 surfaces

We prove that the first order deformations of two smooth projective K3 surfaces are derived equivalent under a Fourier--Mukai transform if and only if there exists a special isometry of the total cohomology groups of the surfaces which preserves the Mukai pairing, an infinitesimal weight-2 decomposition and the orientation of a positive 4-dimensional space. This generalizes the derived version of the Torelli Theorem. Along the way we show the compatibility of the actions on Hochschild homology and singular cohomology of any Fourier--Mukai functor.

Derived equivalences of K3 surfaces and orientation

Every Fourier--Mukai equivalence between the derived categories of two K3 surfaces induces a Hodge isometry of their cohomologies viewed as Hodge structures of weight two endowed with the Mukai pairing. We prove that this Hodge isometry preserves the natural orientation of the four positive directions. This leads to a complete description of the action of the group of all autoequivalences on cohomology very much like the classical Torelli theorem for K3 surfaces determining all Hodge isometries that are induced by automorphisms.

Inducing stability conditions

We study stability conditions induced by functors between triangulated categories. Given a finite group acting on a smooth projective variety we prove that the subset of invariant stability conditions embeds as a closed submanifold into the stability manifold of the equivariant derived category. As an application we examine stability conditions on Kummer and Enriques surfaces and we improve the derived version of the Torelli Theorem for the latter surfaces already present in the litterature. We also study the relationship between stability conditions on projective spaces and those on their canonical bundles.

Automorphisms and autoequivalences of generic analytic K3 surfaces

This is a systematic exposition of recent results which completely describe the group of automorphisms and the group of autoequivalences of generic analytic K3 surfaces. These groups, hard to determine in the algebraic case, admit a good description for generic analytic K3 surfaces, and are in fact seen to be closely interrelated.

Stability conditions on curves

We study some examples of Bridgeland-Douglas stability conditions on triangulated categories. From one side we give a complete description of the stability manifolds for smooth projective curves of positive genus. From the other side we study stability conditions on triangulated categories generated by an exceptional collection. In the case of the projective line this leads to the connectedness and simply-connectedness of the stability manifold.

Stability conditions for generic K3 categories

A K3 category is by definition a Calabi-Yau category of dimension two. Geometrically K3 categories occur as bounded derived categories of (twisted) coherent sheaves on K3 or abelian surfaces. A K3 category is generic if there are no spherical objects (or just one up to shift). We study stability conditions on K3 categories as introduced by Bridgeland and prove his conjecture about the topology of the stability manifold and the autoequivalences group for generic twisted projective K3, abelian surfaces, and K3 surfaces with trivial Picard group.

Some examples of spaces of stability conditions on derived categories

We study stability conditions on the derived categories of coherent sheaves on some projective varieties. We give a complete description of the stability manifold for smooth projective curves and we examine a connected open subset of the stability manifold for projective spaces and del Pezzo surfaces.
