Symbolic computation of optimal systems of subalgebras of three- and four-dimensional real Lie algebras

The complete optimal systems of subalgebras of all nonisomorphic three- and four-dimensional real Lie algebras are analyzed by the program \symbolie running in the computer algebra system \emph{Wolfram Mathematica}\texttrademark. The approach uses the definition of $p$-families of Lie subalgebras whose set can be partitioned by introducing a binary relation (reflexive and transitive, though not necessarily symmetric) induced by inner automorphisms of the Lie algebra. The results, produced in a few minutes by \symbolie, represent a good test for the program; in fact, except for minor differences that are discussed, the results confirm those given in 1977 in a paper by Patera and Winternitz.

Comparison of stability indices of powers of graded ideals

In this paper, we compare the index of ass-stability $\text{astab}(I)$ and the index of $\text{v}$-stability $\text{vstab}(I)$ of powers of a graded ideal $I$. We prove that $\text{astab}(I)=1\le\text{vstab}(I)$ for any graded ideal $I$ in a 2-dimensional polynomial ring, and that $\text{vstab}(I)$ can be any positive integer in this situation. Moreover, given any integers $a,b\ge1$, we construct a graded ideal $I$ in a $3(a+1)$-dimensional polynomial ring such that $(\text{astab}(I),\text{vstab}(I))=(a,b)$.

Asymptotic behaviour of integer programming and the $\text{v}$-function of a graded filtration

The $\text{v}$-function of a graded filtration $\mathcal{I}=\{I_{[k]}\}_{k\ge0}$ is introduced. Under the assumption that $\mathcal{I}$ is Noetherian, we prove that the $\text{v}$-function $\text{v}(I_{[k]})$ is an eventually quasi-linear function. This result applies to several situations, including ordinary powers, and integral closures of ordinary powers, among others. As another application, we investigate the asymptotic behaviour of certain integer programming problems. Finally, we present the \textit{Macaulay2} package $\texttt{VNumber}$.

Lie algebras with compatible scalar products for non-homogeneous Hamiltonian operators

We study from an algebraic and geometric viewpoint Hamiltonian operators which are sum of a non-degenerate first-order homogeneous operator and a Poisson tensor. In flat coordinates, also known as Darboux coordinates, these operators are uniquely determined by a triple composed by a Lie algebra, its most general non-degenerate quadratic Casimir and a 2-cocycle. We present some classes of operators associated to Lie algebras with non-degenerate quadratic Casimirs and we give a description of such operators in low dimensions. Finally, motivated by the example of the KdV equation we discuss the conditions of bi-Hamiltonianity of such operators.

The size of the Betti table of Binomial Edge Ideals

Let $G$ be a finite simple graph on $n$ non-isolated vertices, and let $J_G$ be its binomial edge ideal. We determine almost all pairs $(\text{projdim}(J_G),\text{reg}(J_G))$, where $G$ ranges over all finite simple graphs on $n$ non-isolated vertices, for any $n$.

Asymptotic behaviour of the $\text{v}$-number of homogeneous ideals

Let $I$ be a graded ideal of a standard graded polynomial ring $S$ with coefficients in a field $K$. The asymptotic behaviour of the $\text{v}$-number of the powers of $I$ is investigated. Natural lower and upper bounds which are linear functions in $k$ are determined for $\text{v}(I^k)$. We call $\text{v}(I^k)$ the $\text{v}$-function of $I$. We prove that $\text{v}(I^k)$ is a linear function in $k$ for $k$ large enough, of the form $\text{v}(I^k)=α(I)k+b$, where $α(I)$ is the initial degree of $I$, and $b\in\mathbb{Z}$ is a suitable integer. For this aim, we construct new blowup algebras associated to graded ideals. Finally, for a monomial ideal in two variables, we compute explicitly its $\text{v}$-function.
