Effective Lagrangian of a fermion field in a nontrivial topology under magnetic effects

We have investigated a fermionic system from the perspective of an effective quantum field theory defined on a nontrivial topology in the presence of an external magnetic field. Using the proper-time representation, we obtained one-loop expressions for the corresponding effective Lagrangian, taking into account all Landau levels in the propagator. We also computed the significant boundary-induced contributions to the system's magnetization. To verify the reliability of our results, we examined the limit of zero temperature and infinite spatial extent, which correctly reproduces the celebrated Schwinger result.

Boundary conditions and electromagnetic effects on the phase transition of a zero spin bosonic system

In the following paper, we will study a charged scalar field under an electromagnetic external field taking into account the spatial confining of the system. We shall use the Coleman-Weinberg method in one-loop approximation to obtain the effective potential of the model in the proper time representation. Through generalized Matsubara formalism, we applied several kinds of boundary conditions on the frontier of the system. The regularization of the model is performed by a scheme independent of the external electromagnetic applied field. The model presents phase transition and we carry out its analysis by the free energy density functional of the bosonic system. The findings show magnetic catalysis, electric catalysis, and inverse electric catalysis phenomena, all of them depending on the thickness of the system.

Inverse magnetic catalysis and size-dependent effects on the chiral symmetry restoration

We investigate the combined finite-size and thermo-magnetic effects on the properties of the quark matter, in the context of the two-flavored Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. In particular, by using the mean-field approximation and the Schwinger proper time method in a toroidal topology with periodic or antiperiodic conditions, we evaluate the chiral phase transition, the constituent quark mass and the thermal and spatial susceptibilities under the change of the size, temperature and strength of external magnetic field. To take into account the inverse magnetic catalysis phenomenon, we make use of a recently proposed magnetized coupling constant. The findings suggest that the observables are strongly affected by the variation of the variables and also by the periodicity of the boundary conditions, with the final outcomes depending on the balance of these competing phenomena.

Properties of neutral mesons in a hot and magnetized quark matter: size-dependent effects

In this work we investigate the combined finite-size and thermomagnetic effects on the properties of neutral mesons in a hot medium, in the context of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. In particular, by using the mean-field approximation and the Schwinger proper time method in a toroidal topology with antiperiodic conditions, we evaluate the chiral phase transition, the constituent quark mass and meson observables like the $π^0$ and $σ$ meson masses and pion decay constant under the change of the size, temperature, chemical potential and strength of external magnetic field. The results indicate that the observables are strongly affected by the conjoint effects of relevant variables, and the net result will depend on the balance of these competing phenomena.

A Model to Study Finite-Size and Magnetic Effects on the Phase Transition of a Fermion Interacting System

We present a model to study effects from an external magnetic field, chemical potential, and finite size, on the phase structure of a massive four- and six-fermion interacting system. These effects are introduced by a method of compactification of coordinates, a generalization of the standard Matsubara prescription. Through the compactification of the $z$ coordinate and of imaginary time, we describe a heated system with the shape of a film of thickness $L$, at temperature $β^{-1}$ undergoing first- or second-order phase transition. We have found a strong dependence of the temperature transition on the constants couplings $λ$ and $η$. Besides magnetic catalysis and symmetry breaking for both kinds of transition, we have found an inverse symmetry breaking phenomenon with respect to first-order phase transition.
