New physics searches via angular distributions of $ \bar{B} \to D^* (\to D \pi) \tau (\to \ell \nu_\tau \bar{\nu}_\ell) \bar{\nu}_\tau$ decays

The study of $\bar{B} \to D^* \tau {\bar{\nu}}_\tau$ angular distribution can be used to obtain information about new physics (or beyond the Standard Model) couplings, which are motivated by various $B$ anomalies. However, the inability to measure precisely the three-momentum of the $\tau$ lepton hinders such measurements, as the tau decay contains one or more undetected neutrinos. Here, we present a measurable angular distribution of $\bar{B} \to D^* \tau {\bar{\nu}}_\tau$ by considering the additional decay $\tau \to \ell \nu_\tau \bar{\nu}_\ell$, where $\ell \in \{ e , \mu \}$. The full process used is $\bar{B} \to D^* (\to D \pi) \tau (\to \ell \nu_\tau \bar{\nu}_\ell) \bar{\nu}_\tau$, in which only the $\ell$ and $D^*$ are reconstructed. A fit to the experimental angular distribution of this process can be used to extract information on new physics parameters. To demonstrate the feasibility of this approach, we generate simulated data for this process and perform a sensitivity study to obtain the expected statistical errors on new physics parameters from experiments in the near future. We obtain a sensitivity of the order of 5% for the right-handed current and around 6% for the tensor current. In addition, we use the recent lattice QCD data on $B \to D^*$ form factors and obtain correlations between form factors and new physics parameters.

New physics search via angular distribution of $B \rightarrow D^* \ell {\nu}_{\ell}$ decay in the light of the new lattice data

In this article, we investigate the potential of the angular distribution of the $B \rightarrow D^* \ell {\nu}_{\ell}$ process to search for new physics signals. The Belle collaboration has analysed it to constraint $V_{cb}$ and the $B\to D^*$ form factors, under the assumption of the Standard Model. With the newly released lattice QCD data, we can perform a simultaneous fit of the form factors, $V_{cb}$ as well as new physics parameters. We use the Belle data and the lattice data to constrain right-handed new physics. In addition, we also generate unbinned pseudo-dataset and perform a sensitivity study on more general new physics models, using the lattice data.

Belle II observation prospects for axion-like particle production from $B$ meson annihilation decay

We investigate a new production mechanism of axion-like particle (ALP) from $B$ meson annihilation decays and its observation potential at the Belle and Belle II experiments. This mechanism allows for the production of ALP from $B$ meson decays in association with a large variety of mesons. In this article, we first estimate the branching ratios of such processes with a perturbative QCD method. Focussing on the most promising $B \to h a^{\prime}$ ($h=K^\pm, \pi^\pm, D^0$ and $D_s$) channels, we perform sensitivity studies for $a^{\prime}$ decaying invisibly or into diphoton with Belle and Belle II experiments.

Isospin symmetry and analyticity in $D\to\bar{K}\pi\pi$ decays

We perform a detailed study of the consequences of isospin symmetry in the Cabibbo favoured $D\to\Kbar\pi\pi$ decays. These processes are important for precision testing of the Standard Model and for hadronic physics. Combining isospin symmetry with a dispersive reconstruction theorem we derive a representation in terms of one-variable functions which allows one to predict all the $D\to\Kbar\pi\pi$ amplitudes given inputs from one $D^+$ mode and one $D^0$ mode. From this, using dispersion relations and unitarity, we derive a set of 6+6 Khuri-Treiman type integral equations which enable to take three-body rescattering effects into account. A first test of this approach is presented using experimental results on the $D^+\to K_S\piz\pip$ and the $D^0\to K_S\pim\pip$ modes.

New physics search via CP observables in $B^0_s \rightarrow \phi\phi$ decays with left- and right-handed Chromomagnetic operators

In this paper, we investigate the time-dependent angular analysis of $B_s^0 \rightarrow \phi \phi$ decay to search for new physics signals via CP-violating observables. We work with a new physics Hamiltonian containing both left- and right-handed Chromomagnetic dipole operators. The hierarchy of the helicity amplitudes in this model gives us a new scheme of experimental search, which is different from the ones LHCb has used in its analysis. To illustrate this new scheme, we perform a sensitivity study using two pseudo datasets generated using LHCb's measured values. We find the sensitivity of CP-violating observables to be of the order of $5-7\%$ with the current LHCb statistics. Moreover, we show that Belle(II)'s $B^0_d \rightarrow \phi K_s$ and LHCb's $B_s^0 \rightarrow \phi \phi$ measurements could be coupled within our model to obtain the chirality of the new physics.

Unbinned Angular Analysis of $B\to D^*(D\pi)\ell \nu_\ell$ and $C_{V_R}$

A sensitivity study of the unbinned angular analysis of the $B\to D^*(D\pi)\ell \nu_\ell$ decay is presented. In the analysis, it is shown that the Wilson coefficient of the right-handed vector current, $C_{V_R}$, can be measured to precision of 2-4$\%$ using either the full set of normalised angular observables or the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ of the charged lepton in 10 $w$ bins. Such angular measurements are independent of the $V_{cb}$ puzzle.

Unbinned Angular Analysis of $B\to D^*\ell \nu_\ell$ and the Right-handed Current

In this article, we perform a sensitivity study of an unbinned angular analysis of the $B\to D^*\ell \nu_\ell$ decay, including the contributions from the right-handed current. We show that the angular observable can constrain very strongly the right-handed current without the intervention of the yet unsolved $V_{cb}$ puzzle.

Determining the photon polarization of the b --> s gamma using the B --> K1(1270) gamma --> (K pi pi) gamma decay

Recently the radiative B decay to the strange axial-vector mesons, B --> K1(1270) gamma, has been observed with rather large branching ratio. This process is particularly interesting as the subsequent K1 decay into its three body final state allows us to determine the polarization of the photon, which is mostly left- (right-)handed for Bbar (B) in the SM while various new physics models predict additional right- (left-)handed components. A new method is proposed to determine the polarization, exploiting the full Dalitz plot distribution, which seems to reduce significantly the statistical errors. This polarization measurement requires however a detailed knowledge of the K1--> K pi pi strong interaction decays, namely, the various partial wave amplitudes into the several possible quasi two-body channels, as well as their relative phases. The pattern of partial waves is especially complex for the K1(1270). We attempt to obtain the information through the combination of an experimental input and a theoretical one, provided by the 3P0 quark-pair-creation model.

The time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry in $B^0 \to K_{\rm res} \gamma \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} \gamma$ decays

The time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry in $B^0 \to K_{\rm res} \gamma \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} \gamma$ is sensitive to the photon polarisation in the quark level process $b \to s \gamma$. While this polarisation is predominantly left-handed in the standard model, it could be modified by the existence of new physics contributions that may possess different $CP$ properties. In this paper, we derive the $CP$ violation formulae for $B^0 \to K_{\rm res} \gamma \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} \gamma$ including the most dominant intermediate states. We propose a new observable that could be measured in a time-dependent amplitude analysis of $B^0 \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} \gamma$ decays, providing a stringent contraint on the photon polarisation. We discuss the future prospects for obtaining such constraints from measurements at Belle II and LHCb.

Novel approach to measure the leptonic eta(')->mu+mu- decays via charmed meson decays

In this article, we propose a novel approach to measure the branching ratios of the leptonic eta(')-> mu+mu- decays by using charmed meson decays, namely, D+(s)->pi+ eta(')(->mu+mu-) and D0->K-pi+eta(')(->mu+mu-). We advocate that the data available at LHCb can already yield a new measurement of Br(eta->mu+mu-) with accuracy competitive with the current world average. We also estimate that using the data collected by LHCb between 2015 and 2018 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0/fb, the relative uncertainties to this branching ratio can be reduced down to ~10%. We also show that the first observation of Br(eta'->mu+mu-) may be possible with the Upgrade of the LHCb experiment.

Single pion contribution to the hyperfine splitting in muonic hydrogen

A detailed discussion of the long-range one-pion exchange (Yukawa potential) contribution to the 2S hyperfine splitting in muonic hydrogen which had, until recently, been disregarded is presented. We evaluate the relevant vertex amplitudes, in particular $π^0μ^+μ^-$, combining low energy chiral expansions together with experimental data on $π^0$ and $η$ decays into two leptons. A value of $Δ{E}^π_{HFS}= -(0.09 \pm 0.06)\ μ\rm{eV}$ is obtained for this contribution.

Flavour physics and CP violation (CERN-2014-001)

In these three lectures, I overview the theoretical framework of the flavour physics and CP violation. The first lecture is the introduction to the flavour physics. Namely, I give theoretical basics of the weak interaction. I follow also some historical aspect, discovery of the CP violation, phenomenological studies of charged and neutral currents and the success of the GIM mechanism. In the second lecture, I describe the flavour physics and CP violating phenomena in the Standard Model (SM). I also give the latest experimental observation of the CP Violation at the B factories and the LHC and discuss its interpretation. In the third lecture, I discuss the on-going search of the signals beyond SM in the flavour physics and also the future prospects.

Isovector and hidden-beauty partners of the X(3872)

The isovector partners of the X(3872), recently found at BES III, Belle and CLEO-c were predicted in a simple model based on the chromomagnetic interaction among quarks (H. Hogaasen, J-M. Richard and P. Sorba, Phys. Rev. D73, 054013, 2006). The extension to the hidden-beauty sector is discussed.

Photon Polarization in the b->s gamma processes in the Left-Right Symmetric Model

The circular-polarization of the photon in the radiative B decays is dominantly left-handed in the Standard Model (SM), but the right-handed polarization may be enhanced in some new physics models with right-handed currents, such as the Left-Right Symmetric Model (LRSM). In this article, we investigate how large this wrong polarization could be within the allowed parameter space of the LRSM. We show that in LRSM, the right-handed polarization of the photon in the $b\to sγ$ processes could be largely enhanced by the $W_L-W_R$ mixing contributions because of the helicity flip on the internal top quark line of the penguin diagrams and the enhancement by the CKM factor $V_{ts}^R/V_{ts}^L$. We discuss the sensitivity of the proposed methods to determine the $b\to sγ$ photon polarization to the LRSM as well as their complementary role compared to the direct search of right-handed charged gauge bosons at LHC.

Investigating charmonium production at LHC with the p pbar final state

We propose to investigate various charmonium states using their common decay channel to p pbar at LHC. Having the branching ratios for charmonium decaying into the p pbar final state measured or calculated, we propose to measure the charmonium production rate for both hadroproduction including soft-diffraction and inclusive production from b-hadron decays. We discuss the theoretical impacts in QCD of measuring different charmonium production rates and also the experimental prospects at LHCb, in particular, those for yet unmeasured eta_c and h_c.

Future prospects for the determination of the Wilson coefficient $C_{7γ}^\prime$

We discuss the possibilities of assessing a non-zero $C_{7γ}^\prime$ from the direct and the indirect measurements of the photon polarization in the exclusive $b \to sγ^{(*)}$ decays. We focus on three methods and explore the following three decay modes: $B \to K^*(\to K_Sπ^0)γ$, $B \to K_1(\to Kππ)γ$, and $B \to K^*(\to Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$. By studying different New Physics scenarios we show that the future measurement of conveniently defined observables in these decays could provide us with the full determination of $C_{7γ}$ and $C_{7γ}^\prime$.

The strong decays of K1 resonances

We investigate the K1--> K pi pi strong interaction decays. Using the 3P0 quark-pair-creation model to derive the basic parametrization, we discuss in detail how to obtain the various partial wave amplitudes into the possible quasi-two-body decay channels as well as their relative phases from the currently available experimental data. We obtain the K1 mixing angle to be thetaK1= 60 deg, in agreement with previous works. Our study can be applied to extract the information needed for the photon polarization determination of the radiative B--> K1 gamma decay.

Non-leptonic charmless Bc decays and their search at LHCb

We discuss the decay of Bc mesons into two light mesons (pi, K^(*), eta', rho, omega, phi). All these decay channels come from a single type of diagram, namely tree annihilation. This allows us to derive extremely simple SU(3) relations among these processes. The size of annihilation contributions is an important issue in B physics, and we provide two different estimates in the case of non-leptonic charmless Bc decays, either a comparison with annihilation decays of heavy-light mesons or a perturbative model inspired by QCD factorisation. We finally discuss a possible search for these channels at LHCb.
