Enhancing the stimulated emission of polarization-entangled photons using passive optical components

Bright sources of polarization-entangled photon pairs are essential components for quantum information technologies. In general, it is necessary to introduce a resonator that combines active optical components such as an electric optical modulator to enhance the stimulated emission of polarization-entangled photons. It is technically difficult to perform the time series operation to output the stimulated entangled photons in the resonator by synchronizing laser pulses. In this paper, we propose a scheme to scale up the stimulated emission of polarization-entangled photon pairs using a resonator with only passive optical components. We show the theoretical aspects of the scheme and also perform a proof-of-principle experimental demonstration of the scheme in a double-pass configuration.

su(N) Mermin-Ho relation

The Mermin-Ho relation expresses the vorticity of a coreless su(2) vortex in terms of the spin-1 or l vector which characterizes fully polarized superfluid textures. We generalize it to an su(N) vortex which is applicable to arbitrarily polarized superfluid textures with higher spin or angular momentum. The obtained relation is expressed in terms of the mean-field generators and their structure factors.

Morphological Superfluid in a Nonmagnetic Spin-2 Bose-Einstein Condensate

The two known mechanisms for superflow are the gradient of the U(1) phase and the spin-orbit-gauge symmetry. We find the third mechanism, namely a spatial variation of the order-parameter morphology protected by a hidden su(2) symmetry in a nonmagnetic spin-2 Bose-Einstein condensate. Possible experimental situations are also discussed.

Negative-Temperature State Relaxation and Reservoir-Assisted Quantum Entanglement in Double Spin Domain Systems

Spin collective phenomena including superradiance are even today being intensively investigated with experimental tests performed based on state-of-the-art quantum technologies. Such attempts are not only for the simple experimental verification of predictions from the last century but also as a motivation to explore new applications of spin collective phenomena and the coherent control of the coupling between spin ensembles and reservoirs. In this paper, we investigate the open quantum dynamics of two spin ensembles (double spin domains) coupled to a common bosonic reservoir. We analyze in detail the dynamics of our collective state and its structure by focusing on both the symmetry and asymmetry of this coupled spin system. We find that when the spin size of one of the double domains is larger than that of the other domain, at the steady state this system exhibits two novel collective behaviors: the negative-temperature state relaxation in the smaller spin domain and the reservoir-assisted quantum entanglement between the two domains. These results are the consequence of the asymmetry of this system and the decoherence driven by the common reservoir.

Fast macroscopic-superposition-state generation by coherent driving

We propose a scheme to generate macroscopic superposition states in spin ensembles, where a coherent driving field is applied to accelerate the generation of macroscopic superposition states. The numerical calculation demonstrates that this approach allows us to generate a superposition of two classically distinct states of the spin ensemble with a high fidelity above 0.96 for 300 spins. For the larger spin ensemble, though the fidelity slightly decline, it maintains above 0.85 for an ensemble of 500 spins. The time to generate a macroscopic superposition state is also numerically calculated, which shows that the significantly shortened generation time allows us to achieve such macroscopic superposition states within a typical coherence time of the system.

A hybrid-systems approach to spin squeezing using a highly dissipative ancillary system

Squeezed states of spin systems are an important entangled resource for quantum technologies, particularly quantum metrology and sensing. Here we consider the generation of spin squeezed states by interacting the spins with a dissipative ancillary system. We show that spin squeezing can be generated in this model by two different mechanisms: one-axis twisting and driven collective relaxation. We can interpolate between the two mechanisms by simply adjusting the detuning between the dissipative ancillary system and the spin system. Interestingly, we find that for both mechanisms, ancillary system dissipation need not be considered an imperfection in our model, but plays a positive role in spin squeezing. To assess the feasibility of spin squeezing we consider two different implementations with superconducting circuits. We conclude that it is experimentally feasible to generate a squeezed state of hundreds of spins either by one-axis twisting or by driven collective relaxation.

Classification of spin and multipolar squeezing

We investigate various types of squeezing in a collective su(2J+1) system consisting of spin-J particles (J>1/2). We show that the squeezing in the collective su(2J+1) system can be classified into unitary equivalence classes, each of which is characterized by a set of squeezed and anti-squeezed observables forming an su(2) subalgebra in the su(2J+1) algebra. The dimensionality of the unitary equivalence class is fundamentally related to its squeezing limit. We also demonstrate the classification of the squeezing among the spin and multipolar observables in a collective su(4) system.

Precision Measurements Using Squeezed Spin States via Two-axis Counter-twisting Interactions

We show that the two-axis counter twisting interaction squeezes a coherent spin state into three states of interest in quantum information, namely, the twin-Fock state, the equally-weighted superposition state, and the state that achieves the Heisenberg limit of optimal sensitivity defined by the Cramer-Rao inequality in addition to the well-known Heisenberg-limited state of spin fluctuations.

Classification of Spin-Nematic Squeezing in Spin-1 Collective Atomic Systems

In spin-1 collective atomic systems, the spin and nematic-tensor operators constitute the su(3) Lie algebra whose su(2) subalgebras are shown to give two distinct classes of squeezing which are unitarily equivalent to spin squeezing and spin-nematic squeezing. We explicitly construct a unitary operator that generates an arbitrary squeezed spin-nematic state from an arbitrary Fock state. In particular, we demonstrate that squeezed spin states can be generated from a polar state and that squeezed spin-nematic sates can be generated from a fully spin-polarized state.

Hydrodynamic Description of Spin-1 Bose-Einstein Condensates

We establish a complete set of hydrodynamic equations for a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), which are equivalent to the multi-component Gross-Pitaevskii equations and expressed in terms of only observable physical quantities: the spin density and the nematic (or quadrupolar) tensor in addition to the density and the mass current that appear in the hydrodynamic description of a scalar BEC. The obtained hydrodynamic equations involve a generalized Mermin-Ho relation that is valid regardless of the spatiotemporal dependence of the spin polarization. Low-lying collec- tive modes for phonons and magnons are reproduced by linearizing the hydrodynamic equations. We also apply the single-mode approximation to the hydrodynamic equations and find a complete set of analytic solutions.

Mean-Field Analysis of Electric Field Effect on Charge Orders in Organic Conductors

In order to investigate charge ordering phenomena under electric field, static nonequilibrium Hartree approximation (SNHA) method is formulated on the basis of the nonequilibrium Green's functions introduced by Keldysh. By applying the SNHA to the 3/4-filling extended Hubbard model on anisotropic triangular lattice, we study the stabilities and amplitudes of 3-fold and horizontal charge orders in $θ$ and $θ_d$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2X$ salts under the electric field. The obtained results show that the electric field stabilizes the 3-fold state in comparison to the horizontal state. The amplitude of the 3-fold state tends to decrease by the field, whereas that of the horizontal state does not change.
