Limiting conditions of Muckenhoupt and reverse Hölder classes on metric measure spaces

The natural maximal and minimal functions commute pointwise with the logarithm on $A_\infty$. We use this observation to characterize the spaces $A_1$ and $RH_\infty$ on metric measure spaces with a doubling measure. As the limiting cases of Muckenhoupt $A_p$ and reverse Hölder classes, respectively, their behavior is remarkably symmetric. On general metric measure spaces, an additional geometric assumption is needed in order to pass between $A_p$ and reverse Hölder descriptions. Finally, we apply the characterization to give simple proofs of several known properties of $A_1$ and $RH_\infty$, including a refined Jones factorization theorem. In addition, we show a boundedness result for the natural maximal function.

Characterizations of weak reverse Hölder inequalities on metric measure spaces

We present ten different characterizations of functions satisfying a weak reverse Hölder inequality on an open subset of a metric measure space with a doubling measure. Among others, we describe these functions as a class of weak $A_\infty$ weights, which is a generalization of Muckenhoupt weights that allows for nondoubling weights. Although our main results are modeled after conditions that hold true for Muckenhoupt weights, we also discuss two conditions for Muckenhoupt $A_\infty$ weights that fail to hold for weak $A_\infty$ weights.

On the extension of Muckenhoupt weights in metric spaces

A theorem by Wolff states that weights defined on a measurable subset of $\mathbb{R}^n$ and satisfying a Muckenhoupt-type condition can be extended into the whole space as Muckenhoupt weights of the same class. We give a complete and self-contained proof of this theorem generalized into metric measure spaces supporting a doubling measure. Related to the extension problem, we also show estimates for Muckenhoupt weights on Whitney chains in the metric setting.

Weighted norm inequalities in a bounded domain by the sparse domination method

We prove a local two-weight Poincaré inequality for cubes using the sparse domination method that has been influential in harmonic analysis. The proof involves a localized version of the Fefferman--Stein inequality for the sharp maximal function. By establishing a local-to-global result in a bounded domain satisfying a Boman chain condition, we show a two-weight $p$-Poincaré inequality in such domains. As an application we show that certain nonnegative supersolutions of the $p$-Laplace equation and distance weights are $p$-admissible in a bounded domain, in the sense that they support versions of the $p$-Poincaré inequality.
