An innovating Statistical Learning Tool based on Partial Differential Equations, intending livestock Data Assimilation

The realistic modeling intended to quantify precisely some biological mechanisms is a task requiering a lot of a priori knowledge and generally leading to heavy mathematical models. On the other hand, the structure of the classical Machine Learning algorithms, such as Neural Networks, limits their flexibility and the possibility to take into account the existence of complex underlying phenomena, such as delay, saturation and accumulation. The aim of this paper is to reach a compromise between precision, parsimony and flexibility to design an efficient biomimetic predictive tool extracting knowledge from livestock data. To achieve this, we build a Mathematical Model based on Partial Differential Equations (PDE) embarking the mathematical expression of biological determinants. We made the hypothesis that all the physico-chemical phenomena occurring in animal body can be summarized by the evolution of a global information. Therefore the developed PDE system describes the evolution and the action of an information circulating in an Avatar of the Real Animal. This Avatar outlines the dynamics of the biological reactions of animal body in the framework of a specific problem. Each PDE contains parameters corresponding to biological-like factors which can be learnt from data by the developed Statistical Learning Tool.

Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of a bioreactor landfill using Feel++

In this paper, we propose a mathematical model to describe the functioning of a bioreactor landfill, that is a waste management facility in which biodegradable waste is used to generate methane. The simulation of a bioreactor landfill is a very complex multiphysics problem in which bacteria catalyze a chemical reaction that starting from organic carbon leads to the production of methane, carbon dioxide and water. The resulting model features a heat equation coupled with a non-linear reaction equation describing the chemical phenomena under analysis and several advection and advection-diffusion equations modeling multiphase flows inside a porous environment representing the biodegradable waste. A framework for the approximation of the model is implemented using Feel++, a C++ open-source library to solve Partial Differential Equations. Some heuristic considerations on the quantitative values of the parameters in the model are discussed and preliminary numerical simulations are presented.

On the Geometrical Gyro-Kinetic Theory

Considering a Hamiltonian Dynamical System describing the motion of charged particle in a Tokamak or a Stellarator, we build a change of coordinates to reduce its dimension. This change of coordinates is in fact an intricate succession of mappings that are built using Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations, Differential Geometry, Hamiltonian Dynamical System Theory and Symplectic Geometry, Lie Transforms and a new tool which is here introduced : Partial Lie Sums.

Homogenization of the Vlasov Equation and of the Vlasov - Poisson System with a Strong External Magnetic Field

Motivated by the difficulty arising in the numerical simulation of the movement of charged particles in presence of a large external magnetic field, which adds an additional time scale and thus imposes to use a much smaller time step, we perform in this paper a homogenization of the Vlasov equation and of the Vlasov-Poisson system which yield approximate equations describing the mean behavior of the particles. The convergence proof is based on the two scale convergence tools introduced by N'Guetseng and Allaire. We also consider the case where, in addition to the magnetic field, a large external electric field orthogonal to the magnetic field and of the same magnitude is applied.

Two-scale numerical simulation of the weakly compressible 1D isentropic Euler equations

Motivated by the difficulty to solve numerically the weakly compressible 1D isentropic Euler equations with classical methods, we develop in this paper a two scale numerical method on this model. This method is based on two scale convergence theory developped by N'Guetseng and Allaire, and finite volume scheme. Furthermore, we do some numerical simulations in order to verify that the two-scale numerical method is more and more accurate when the Mach number diminishes.
