Flavor Physics at the CEPC: a General Perspective

We discuss the landscape of flavor physics at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the nominal luminosity outlined in its Technical Design Report. The CEPC is designed to operate in multiple modes to address a variety of tasks. At the $Z$ pole, the expected production of 4 Tera $Z$ bosons will provide unique and highly precise measurements of $Z$ boson couplings, while the substantial number of boosted heavy-flavored quarks and leptons produced in clean $Z$ decays will facilitate investigations into their flavor physics with unprecedented precision. We investigate the prospects of measuring various physics benchmarks and discuss their implications for particle theories and phenomenological models. Our studies indicate that, with its highlighted advantages and anticipated excellent detector performance, the CEPC can explore beauty and $τ$ physics in ways that are superior to or complementary with the Belle II and Large-Hadron-Collider-beauty experiments, potentially enabling the detection of new physics at energy scales of 10 TeV and above. This potential also extends to the observation of yet-to-be-discovered rare and exotic processes, as well as testing fundamental principles such as lepton flavor universality, lepton and baryon number conservation, etc., making the CEPC a vibrant platform for flavor physics research. The $WW$ threshold scan, Higgs-factory operation and top-pair productions of the CEPC further enhance its merits in this regard, especially for measuring the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, and Flavor-Changing-Neutral-Current physics of Higgs boson and top quarks. We outline the requirements for detector performance and considerations for future development to achieve the anticipated scientific goals.

Symbolic Foundation Regressor on Complex Networks

In science, we are interested not only in forecasting but also in understanding how predictions are made, specifically what the interpretable underlying model looks like. Data-driven machine learning technology can significantly streamline the complex and time-consuming traditional manual process of discovering scientific laws, helping us gain insights into fundamental issues in modern science. In this work, we introduce a pre-trained symbolic foundation regressor that can effectively compress complex data with numerous interacting variables while producing interpretable physical representations. Our model has been rigorously tested on non-network symbolic regression, symbolic regression on complex networks, and the inference of network dynamics across various domains, including physics, biochemistry, ecology, and epidemiology. The results indicate a remarkable improvement in equation inference efficiency, being three times more effective than baseline approaches while maintaining accurate predictions. Furthermore, we apply our model to uncover more intuitive laws of interaction transmission from global epidemic outbreak data, achieving optimal data fitting. This model extends the application boundary of pre-trained symbolic regression models to complex networks, and we believe it provides a foundational solution for revealing the hidden mechanisms behind changes in complex phenomena, enhancing interpretability, and inspiring further scientific discoveries.

Study $Ξ_c^+ \to Λ{\bar{K}}^0 π^+$ and search for the low-lying baryons $Ξ(1/2^-)$ and $Σ(1/2^-)$

Since searches for the low-lying excited baryons $Ξ(1/2^-)$ and $Σ(1/2^-)$ are crucial to deepening our understanding of the light baryon spectrum, we have investigated the Cabibbo-favored process $Ξ_c^+ \to Λ{\bar{K}}^0 π^+$ by taking into account the $S$-wave pseudoscalar meson-octet baryon interactions within the chiral unitary approach, which could dynamically generate the resonances $Ξ(1/2^-)$ and $Σ(1/2^-)$. The contributions from the excited kaons are double Cabibbo-suppressed, and the contribution from the $Σ(1385)$ is also suppressed due to Korner-Pati-Woo theory, thus those states are expected to play negligible contributions in this process. We have predicted the $\bar{K}^0 Λ$ and $π^+Λ$ invariant mass distributions, which have the clear signals of the $Ξ(1/2^-)$ and $Σ(1/2^-)$. Thus, the $Ξ_c^+ \to Λ{\bar{K}}^0 π^+$ is an ideal process to search for the low-lying baryons $Ξ(1/2^-)$ and $Σ(1/2^-)$, and we make a call for a precise measurements of this process in experiments, such as Belle II, LHCb, and the proposed Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF).

Roles of the $N(1535)$ and $a_0(980)$ in the process $Λ_c^+ \to π^+ηn$

We have investigated the process $Λ_c^+ \to π^+ηn$ by taking into account the contributions from the nucleon resonance $N(1535)$ and the scalar meson $a_0(980)$, which could be dynamically generated by the interaction of the $S$-wave pseudosalar meson-octet baryon and the $S$-wave pseudosalar meson-pseudosalar meson, respectively. Our results show that, in $ηn$ invariant mass distribution, there is a significant near-threshold enhancement structure, which could be associated with $N(1535)$. On the other hand, one can find a clear cusp structure of $a_0(980)$ in $π^+η$ invariant mass distribution. We further estimate the ratio $R$ = $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to a_0(980)^+ n)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to π^+ηn)\approx 0.313$. Our results can be tested by BESIII, Belle~II, and the proposed Super Tau-Charm Facility experiments in the future.

Theoretical study of the open-flavor tetraquark $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)$ in the process $Λ_b\to K^0D^0Λ$

Recently, the LHCb Collaboration has measured the processes $B^0\to\bar{D}^0D_s^+π^-$ and $B^+\to\bar{D}^0D_s^+π^+$, where the $D_s^+π^-$ and $D_s^+π^+$ invariant mass distributions show the significant signals of two new open-flavor tetraquark states $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)^0$ and $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)^{++}$, as the two of the isospin triplet. In this work, we have investigated the process $Λ_b\to K^0D^0Λ$ by taking into account the intermediate nucleon resonance $N^*(1535)$ and the tetraquark state $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)^0$, which could be dynamically generated by the interactions of the $D^*K^*/D^*_sρ$ and the pseoduscalar mesons-octet baryons, respectively. Our results show that a clear peak of the open-flavor tetraquark $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)$ may appear in the $K^0D^0$ invariant mass distribution of the process $Λ_b\to K^0D^0Λ$, which could be tested by future experiments.

Roles of the scalar $f_0(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ in the process $D^0\to π^0π^0 \bar{K}^0$

Motivated by the near-threshold enhancement and the dip structure around 1~GeV in the $π^0π^0$ invariant mass distribution of the process $D^0\to π^0π^0\bar{K}^0$ observed by the CLEO Collaboration, we have investigated this process by taking into account the contribution from the $S$-wave pseudoscalar meson-pseudoscalar meson interactions within the chiral unitary approach, and also the one from the intermediate resonance $K^{*}(892)$. Our results are in good agreement with the CLEO measurements, which implies that, the near-threshold enhancement near the $π^0π^0$ threshold is mainly due to the contributions from the scalar meson $f_0(500)$ and the intermediate $K^*$, and the cusp structure around 1~GeV in the $π^0π^0$ invariant mass distribution should be associated with the scalar meson $f_0(980)$.

Theoretical study of the open-flavor tetraquark $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)$ in the process $\bar{B}_s^0 \to K^0 D^0 π^0$

Recently, the LHCb Collaboration has measured two decay processes $B^0\to\bar{D}^0D_s^+π^-$ and $B^+\to D^-D_s^+π^+$ related to isospin symmetry, where two new open-flavor tetraquark states $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)^0$ and $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)^{++}$ that belong to an isospin triplet were observed in the $D_s^+π^-$ and $D_s^+π^+$ invariant mass distributions. In this work, we have investigated the validity of the process $\bar{B}_s^0\to K^0D^0π^0$ as the promising process to confirm the existence of $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)^0$ resonance. Taking into account the tetraquark state $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)$, as well as intermediate resonances $K^*(892)$, $K_0^*(1430)$, and $K_2^*(1430)$, it has been shown that a clear peak of the open-flavor tetraquark $T_{c\bar{s}}(2900)$ appears in the $K^0D^0$ invariant mass distribution of the process $\bar{B}_s^0\to K^0D^0π^0$, which could be tested by future experiments.

Roles of $Δ(1232)$, $N^*(1520)$, and $N^*(1650)$ resonances in $γp\to π^0 π^0 p$ reaction within an effective Lagrangian approach

Roles of the $Δ(1232)$, ${N}^{*}(1520)$, and ${N}^{*}(1650)$ resonances in the $γp\to{π}^{0}{π}^{0}p $ reaction near threshold is investigated within an effective Lagrangian approach. We have calculated the differential cross sections of the $γp\to{π}^{0}{π}^{0}p$ reaction by including the contributions from the $Δ(1232)$, ${N}^{*}(1520)$, and ${N}^{*}(1650)$ intermediate states decaying into $π^0 p$ via the $s$-channel nucleon pole and $t$-channel $ρ$ exchange, and found that the current experimental measurements can be well reproduced. The production of $Δ(1232)$ is mainly from the mechanism of the $s$-channel nucleon pole, while the ${N}^{*}(1520)$ and ${N}^{*}(1650)$ are produced from the mechanism of the $t$-channel $ρ$ exchange. It is expected that more experimental data on the $γp \to π^0 π^0 p$ reaction can be used to explore the properties of the low-lying excited baryon states and also the scalar $f_0(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ mesons.

Coupled channel effects for the bottom-strange mesons

We have calculated the mass spectrum of $B_s$ mesons within a nonrelativistic potential model considering coupled channel effects, and the corresponding strong decay widths within the $^3P_0$ model using the numerically calculated wave functions. By comparing with the available experimental data, we find that the states $B_s$, $B_s^*$, $B_{s1}(5830)$, and $B_{s2}^*(5840)$ could be interpreted as the $B_s(1^1S_0)$, $B_s(1^3S_1)$, $B_s(1P^\prime)$, and $B_s(1^3P_2)$, respectively. Although the quantum numbers of the newly observed $B_s(6064)$ and $B_s(6158)$ states have not been determined, our results support the assignments of $B_s(1^3D_3)$ and $B_s(1^3D_1)$ for them. Our predictions are helpful in searching for the bottom-strange meson in future experiments.

Evidence of the open-flavor tetraquark $T_{c\bar{s}2}$ in the process $B^+\to D^{*-}D_s^+π^+$

The newly observed open-flavor tetraquark $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)$ has attracted many attentions, and searching for its spin partners is crucial to exploring the internal structure of those states. In this work, we will show that, the $D_s^+π^+$ invariant mass distribution of the process $B^+\to D^{*-}D_s^+π^+$ measured by LHCb has a resonant-like structure around 2830~MeV, which could be associated with the predicted $T_{c\bar{s}2}$, the spin $J=2$ partner of $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)$. Furthermore, we have evaluated the momenta of the angular mass distribution, which are very different for each of the spin assumptions, and have larger strength at the resonant energy than the peaks seen in the angular integrated mass distribution. We make a call for the experimental determination of these magnitudes, which could be used to pin down the existence of the $T_{c\bar{s}2}$.

Explore the properties of $Λ(1670)$ in the Cabibbo-favored process $Λ^+_c \to p K^- π^+$ decay

Recently, the Belle and LHCb Collaborations have measured the $Λ^+_c \to p K^- π^+$ decay and reported the $p K^-$ invariant mass distribution, which shows a clear cusp structure around the $ηΛ$ threshold. In this work, we have analyzed this process by considering the triangle mechanism and the $S$-wave pseudoscalar meson-octet baryon interactions within the chiral unitary approach, which dynamically generate the $Λ(1670)$. Our results are in good agreement with the Belle measurements, which implies that the cusp structure around $ηΛ$ threshold could be associated with the $Λ(1670)$ with the molecular nature.

How to unravel the nature of the $Σ^*(1430) (1/2^-)$ state from correlation functions

We calculate the correlation functions for the $\bar K^0 p, π^+ Σ^0, π^0 Σ^+, π^+ Λ$, and $ηΣ^+$ states, which in the chiral unitary approach predict an excited $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ state at the $\bar K N$ threshold, recently observed by the Belle Collaboration. Once this is done, we tackle the inverse problem of seeing how much information one can obtain from these correlation functions. With the resampling method, one can determine the scattering parameters of all the channels with relative precision by means of the analysis in a general framework, and find a clear cusplike structure corresponding to the $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ in the different amplitudes at the $\bar{K}N$ threshold.

Spectrum and decay properties of the charmed mesons involving the coupled channel effects

The mass spectrum of the charmed mesons is investigated by considering the coupled channel effects within the nonrelativistic potential model. The predicted masses of the charmed mesons are in agreement with experimental data. The strong decay properties are further analyzed within the $^3P_0$ model by using numerical wave functions obtained from nonrelativistic potential model. Based on the predicted masses and decay properties, we give a classification of the recently observed charmed states. Especially, we have effectively explained the masses and decay properties of the $D_1^*(2600)$ and $D_1^*(2760)$ by considering the $S$-$D$ mixing. Furthermore, the predicted masses and decay properties of the $2P$ wave states are helpful to search for them experimentally in future.

The $Λ_c^+\toηπ^+Λ$ reaction and the $Λa_0^+(980)$ and $π^+Λ(1670)$ contributions

We study from the theoretical point of view the $Λ_c^+\to π^+ ηΛ$ reaction, recently measured by the Belle and BESIII Collaborations, where clear signals are observed for $a_0(980)$, $Λ(1670)$, and $Σ(1385)$ excitation. By considering the $a_0(980)$ and $Λ(1670)$ as dynamically generated resonances from the meson meson and meson baryon interaction, respectively, we are able to determine their relative production strength in the reaction, which is also tied to the strength of the $π^+ ηΛ$ tree level contribution. We observe that this latter strength is very big and there are large destructive interferences between the tree level and the rescattering terms where the $a_0(980)$ and $Λ(1670)$ are generated. The $Σ(1385)$ contribution is included by means of a free parameter, the only one of the theory, up to a global normalization, when one considers only external emission, and we observe that the spin flip part of this term, usually ignored in theoretical and experimental works, plays an important role determining the shape of the mass distributions. Internal emission is also considered and it is found to play a minor role.

Review of the low-lying excited baryons $Σ^*(1/2^-)$

Strong empirical and phenomenological indications exist for large sea-quark admixtures in the low-lying excited baryons. Investigating the low-lying excited baryon $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ is important to determine the nature of the low-lying excited baryons. We review the experimental and theoretical progress on the studies of the $Σ^*(1/2^-)$. Although several candidates have received intensive discussions, such as $Σ(1620)$ and $Σ(1480)$, their existence needs further confirmation. Following the prediction of the unquenched quark models for the $Σ^*(1/2^-)$, many theoretical works suggested the existence of these states in various processes. Future experimental measurements could shed light on the existence of the low-lying excited $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ state.

Theoretical study of $N(1535)$ and $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ in the Cabibbo-favored process $Λ_c^+ \to p \bar{K}^0η$

Motivated by the recent experimental measurements, we have investigated the Cabibbo-favored process $Λ_c^+ \to p \bar{K}^0η$, where the $N(1535)$ resonance is dynamically generated from the $S$-wave pseudoscalar meson-octet baryon interactions within the chiral unitary approach. The contributions from the intermediate $N(1650)$ and the predicted low-lying baryon $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ are also considered. In addition, a Breit-Wigner amplitude for the $N(1535)$ resonance is checked. By comparing with the measured $ηp$, $\bar{K}^0 η$, and $p \bar{K}^0$ invariant mass squared distributions, our results support the interpretation of $N(1535)$ as a dynamically generated state. Furthermore, we demonstrate that, with the contribution from $Σ^*(1/2^-)$ taken into account, the calculated invariant mass spectrum agrees with the Belle measurements. Future precise measurements of the $Λ_c^+\to p \bar{K}^0η$ process can further elucidate the existence of the low-lying baryon $Σ^*(1/2^-)$.

Heterogeneous Graph Reinforcement Learning for Dependency-aware Multi-task Allocation in Spatial Crowdsourcing

Spatial Crowdsourcing (SC) is gaining traction in both academia and industry, with tasks on SC platforms becoming increasingly complex and requiring collaboration among workers with diverse skills. Recent research works address complex tasks by dividing them into subtasks with dependencies and assigning them to suitable workers. However, the dependencies among subtasks and their heterogeneous skill requirements, as well as the need for efficient utilization of workers' limited work time in the multi-task allocation mode, pose challenges in achieving an optimal task allocation scheme. Therefore, this paper formally investigates the problem of Dependency-aware Multi-task Allocation (DMA) and presents a well-designed framework to solve it, known as Heterogeneous Graph Reinforcement Learning-based Task Allocation (HGRL-TA). To address the challenges associated with representing and embedding diverse problem instances to ensure robust generalization, we propose a multi-relation graph model and a Compound-path-based Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (CHANet) for effectively representing and capturing intricate relations among tasks and workers, as well as providing embedding of problem state. The task allocation decision is determined sequentially by a policy network, which undergoes simultaneous training with CHANet using the proximal policy optimization algorithm. Extensive experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the proposed HGRL-TA in solving the DMA problem, leading to average profits that is 21.78% higher than those achieved using the metaheuristic methods.

From Incomplete Coarse-Grained to Complete Fine-Grained: A Two-Stage Framework for Spatiotemporal Data Reconstruction

With the rapid development of various sensing devices, spatiotemporal data is becoming increasingly important nowadays. However, due to sensing costs and privacy concerns, the collected data is often incomplete and coarse-grained, limiting its application to specific tasks. To address this, we propose a new task called spatiotemporal data reconstruction, which aims to infer complete and fine-grained data from sparse and coarse-grained observations. To achieve this, we introduce a two-stage data inference framework, DiffRecon, grounded in the Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DDPM). In the first stage, we present Diffusion-C, a diffusion model augmented by ST-PointFormer, a powerful encoder designed to leverage the spatial correlations between sparse data points. Following this, the second stage introduces Diffusion-F, which incorporates the proposed T-PatternNet to capture the temporal pattern within sequential data. Together, these two stages form an end-to-end framework capable of inferring complete, fine-grained data from incomplete and coarse-grained observations. We conducted experiments on multiple real-world datasets to demonstrate the superiority of our method.
