On the classification of toric $2$-Fano manifolds: generic $\mathbb{P}^2$-bundles

In this paper, we advance the classification of toric 2-Fano manifolds by continuing the investigation of the minimal projective bundle dimension $m(X) \in \{1,\dots,\dim(X)\}$ introduced in our previous work. This invariant captures the minimal degree of a dominating family of rational curves on $X$ and admits a natural combinatorial interpretation in terms of centered primitive collections. We develop an approach that relates, via toric blowdowns and flips, a toric Fano manifold $X$ to a toric manifold $Y$ that admits a $\mathbb{P}^{m(X)}$-bundle structure on a big open subset. We then compare positivity of the second Chern characters of $X$ and $Y$, and show that the only toric 2-Fano manifold $X$ with $m(X) = 2$ is $X\cong \mathbb{P}^2$. In the example-driven Appendix B, we demonstrate that extending this strategy to the case $m(X)>2$ requires either a substantially more detailed analysis of the combinatorics of primitive collections or a fundamentally new approach.

Monge-Ampère measures on balanced polyhedral spaces

We study classes of convex functions on balanced polyhedral spaces and establish various structural properties, including a compactness theorem for polyhedrally plurisubharmonic functions. Using tropical intersection theory, we construct Monge--Ampère measures, first associated with piecewise affine functions, and then we extend it to polyhedrally plurisubharmonic functions. We investigate polyhedral Monge--Ampère equations on balanced polyhedral spaces via a variational approach, providing sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions as well as explicit counterexamples. Finally, we relate our framework to non-archimedean pluripotential theory and explore its connection with the non-archimedean Monge--Ampère equation.

Terminalizations of quotients of Fano varieties of lines on cubic fourfolds

We classify projective terminalizations of quotients of Fano varieties of lines on smooth cubic fourfolds by finite groups of symplectic automorphisms of the underlying cubic. We compute the second Betti number and the fundamental group of the regular locus. As a consequence, we identify two new deformation classes of four-dimensional irreducible holomorphic symplectic varieties with second Betti number equal to four and simply connected regular locus.

Terminalizations of quotients of compact hyperkähler manifolds by induced symplectic automorphisms

Terminalizations of symplectic quotients are sources of new deformation types of irreducible symplectic varieties. We classify all terminalizations of quotients of Hilbert schemes of K3 surfaces or of generalized Kummer varieties, by finite groups of symplectic automorphisms induced from the underlying K3 or abelian surface. We determine their second Betti number and the fundamental group of their regular locus. In the Kummer case, we prove that the terminalizations have quotient singularities, and determine the singularities of their universal quasi-étale cover. In particular, we obtain at least nine new deformation types of irreducible symplectic varieties of dimension four. Finally, we compare our deformation types with those in [FM21; Men22]. The smooth terminalizations are only three and of K$3^{[n]}$-type, and surprisingly they all appeared in different places in the literature [Fuj83; Kaw09; Flo22].

Regularity of the solution to a real Monge--Ampère equation on the boundary of a simplex

Motivated by conjectures in Mirror Symmetry, we continue the study of the real Monge--Ampère operator on the boundary of a simplex. This can be formulated in terms of optimal transport, and we consider, more generally, the problem of optimal transport between symmetric probability measures on the boundary of a simplex and of the dual simplex. For suitably regular measures, we obtain regularity properties of the transport map, and of its convex potential. To do so, we exploit boundary regularity results for optimal transport maps by Caffarelli, together with the symmetries of the simplex.

Tropical and non-Archimedean Monge-Ampère equations for a class of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces

For a class of maximally degenerate families of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces of complex projective space, we study associated non-Archimedean and tropical Monge-Ampère equations, taking place on the associated Berkovich space, and the essential skeleton therein, respectively. For a symmetric measure on the skeleton, we prove that the tropical equation admits a unique solution, up to an additive constant. Moreover, the solution to the non-Archimedean equation can be derived from the tropical solution, and is the restriction of a continuous semipositive toric metric on projective space. Together with the work of Yang Li, this implies the weak metric SYZ conjecture on the existence of special Lagrangian fibrations in our setting.

The minimal projective bundle dimension and toric $2$-Fano manifolds

Motivated by the problem of classifying toric $2$-Fano manifolds, we introduce a new invariant for smooth projective toric varieties, the minimal projective bundle dimension. This invariant $m(X)\in\{1, \dots,\dim(X)\}$ captures the minimal degree of a dominating family of rational curves on $X$ or, equivalently, the minimal length of a centrally symmetric primitive relation for the fan of $X$. We classify smooth projective toric varieties with $m(X)\geq \dim(X)-2$, and show that projective spaces are the only $2$-Fano manifolds among smooth projective toric varieties with $m(X)\in\{1, \dim(X)-2,\dim(X)-1,\dim(X)\}$.

Toric geometry and integral affine structures in non-archimedean mirror symmetry

We study integral dlt models of a proper C((t))-variety X along a toric stratum of the special fiber. We prove that the associated Berkovich retraction - from the non-archimedean analytification of X onto the dual complex of the model - is an affinoid torus fibration around the simplex corresponding to the toric stratum, which extends results from Nicaise-Xu-Yu. This allows us to construct new types of non-archimedean retractions for maximally degenerate families of quartic K3 surfaces and quintic 3-folds, by gluing several non-archimedean SYZ fibrations, each one toric along a codimension one stratum. We then show that the new retractions induce the same singular integral affine structures that arise on the dual complex of toric degenerations in the Gross-Siebert program, as well as on the Gromov-Hausdorff limit of the family.

On the geometric P=W conjecture

We formulate the geometric P=W conjecture for singular character varieties. We establish it for compact Riemann surfaces of genus one, and obtain partial results in arbitrary genus. To this end, we employ non-Archimedean, birational and degeneration techniques to study the topology of the dual boundary complex of certain character varieties. We also clarify the relation between the geometric and the cohomological P=W conjectures.

Higher Fano Manifolds

In this paper we address Fano manifolds with positive higher Chern characters. They are expected to enjoy stronger versions of several of the nice properties of Fano manifolds. For instance, they should be covered by higher dimensional rational varieties, and families of higher Fano manifolds over higher dimensional bases should admit meromorphic sections (modulo the Brauer obstruction). Aiming at finding new examples of higher Fano manifolds, we investigate positivity of higher Chern characters of rational homogeneous spaces. We determine which rational homogeneous spaces of Picard rank $1$ have positive second Chern character, and show that the only rational homogeneous spaces of Picard rank $1$ having positive second and third Chern characters are projective spaces and quadric hypersurfaces. We also classify Fano manifolds of large index having positive second and third Chern characters. We conclude by discussing conjectural characterizations of projective spaces and complete intersections in terms of these higher Fano conditions.

The Essential Skeleton of a product of degenerations

We study the problem of how the dual complex of the special fiber of an snc degeneration $\cX_R$ changes under products. We view the dual complex as a skeleton inside the Berkovich space associated to $X_K$. Using the Kato fan, we define a skeleton $\Sk(\cX_R)$ when the model $\cX_R$ is log-regular. We show that if $\cX_R$ and $\cY_R$ are log-regular, and at least one is semistable, then $\Sk(\cX_R\times_R \cY_R) \simeq \Sk(\cX_R)\times \Sk(\cY_R)$. The essential skeleton $\Sk(X_K)$, defined by Mustaţă and Nicaise, is a birational invariant of $X_K$ and is independent of the choice of $R$-model. We extend their definition to pairs, and show that if both $X_K$ and $Y_K$ admit semistable models, $\Sk(X_K\times_K Y_K) \simeq \Sk(X_K)\times \Sk(Y_K)$. As an application, we compute the homeomorphism type of the dual complex of some degenerations of hyper-K{ä}hler varieties. We consider both the case of the Hilbert scheme of a semistable degeneration of K3 surfaces, and the generalized Kummer construction applied to a semistable degeneration of abelian surfaces. In both cases we find that the dual complex of the $2n$-dimensional degeneration is homeomorphic to either a point, $n$-simplex, or $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^n$, depending on the type of the degeneration.
