Quantum Enhanced Imaging of Non-Uniform Refractive Profiles

In this work quantum metrology techniques are applied to the imaging of objects with a non-uniform refractive spatial profile. A sensible improvement on the classical accuracy is shown to be found when the "Twin Beam State" (TWB) is used. In particular exploiting the multimode spatial correlation, naturally produced in the Parametric Down Conversion (PDC) process, allows a 2D reconstruction of complex spatial profiles, thus enabling an enhanced imaging. The idea is to use one of the spatially multimode beam to probe the sample and the other as a reference to reduce the noise. A similar model can be also used to describe wave front distortion measurements. The model is meant to be followed by a first experimental demonstration of such enhanced measurement scheme.

Is There Flavour Independence in Tensor Glueball Decays?

The flavour independence hypothesis for (tensor) glueball decays into exclusive final states is not ruled out by the existing data. A new methodology for testing its validity and accuracy is proposed in the framework of a particular mixing scheme. As an important consequence of our analysis, a relative factor of the order of 10 must be experimentally observed for the ratio $\Gamma (\Theta \rightarrow K\bar{K})\Gamma (\Theta \rightarrow \pi \pi)$, if flavour independence indeed is valid.

A note on the implications of gauge invariance in QCD

We compare and contrast the implications of gauge invariance for the structure of scattering amplitudes in QED and QCD. We derive the most general analogue for QCD of the famous QED rule that the scattering amplitude must be invariant if the polarization vectors $ε^{μ_j}(k_j)$ of any number of photons undergo the replacement $ ε^{μ_j}(k_j) \rightarrow ε^{μ_j}(k_j) + c \, k_j^{μ_j} $, where $c$ is an arbitrary constant.

Preon Trinity - a new model of leptons and quarks

A new model for the substructure of quarks, leptons and weak gauge bosons is discussed. It is based on three fundamental and absolutely stable spin-1/2 preons. Its preon flavour SU(3) symmetry leads to a prediction of nine quarks, nine leptons and nine heavy vector bosons. One of the quarks has charge $-4e/3$, and is speculated to be the top quark (whose charge has not been measured). The flavour symmetry leads to three conserved lepton numbers in all known weak processes, except for some neutrinos, which might either oscillate or decay. There is also a (Cabibbo) mixing of the $d$ and $s$ quarks due to an internal preon-antipreon annihilation channel. An identical channel exists inside the composite $Z^0$, leading to a relation between the Cabibbo and Weinberg mixing angles.

Decisive Search for a Diquark-Antidiquark Meson with Hidden Strangeness

Diquark-antidiquark states are expected to exist as a natural complement of mesons and baryons. Although they were predicted long ago, and some candidates were found experimentally, none has, as yet, been reliably identified. We suggest that the search for the so-called $C(1480)$-meson in reactions such as photoproduction $γN\rightarrowϕπN$ and $K N \rightarrow ϕπΛ$ should provide a decisive way to settle this issue. Estimates of the cross sections are given using present experimental information on the C-meson and assuming its diquark-antidiquark structure. Sizable cross sections are predicted (of the order of 0.1 $μ$b for photoproduction and of the order of 0.1 mb for $KN$ at the maximum with an insignificant background). Failure to find this kind of signal would imply that the C-meson is {\it not} a diquark-antidiquark state.
