Face Verification Using 60~GHz 802.11 waveforms

Verification of an identity based on the human face radar signature in mmwave is studied. The chipset for 802.11ad/y networking that is cable of operating in a radar mode is used. A dataset with faces of 200 different persons was collected for the testing. Our preliminary study shows promising results for the application of autoencoder for the setup at hand.

Gesture recognition with 60GHz 802.11 waveforms

Gesture recognition application over 802.11 ad/y waveforms is developed. Simultaneous gestures of slider-control and two-finger gesture for switching are detected based on Golay sequences of channel estimation fields of the packets.

Guessing Attacks on Distributed-Storage Systems

The secrecy of a distributed-storage system for passwords is studied. The encoder, Alice, observes a length-n password and describes it using two hints, which she stores in different locations. The legitimate receiver, Bob, observes both hints. In one scenario the requirement is that the expected number of guesses it takes Bob to guess the password approach one as n tends to infinity, and in the other that the expected size of the shortest list that Bob must form to guarantee that it contain the password approach one. The eavesdropper, Eve, sees only one of the hints. Assuming that Alice cannot control which hints Eve observes, the largest normalized (by n) exponent that can be guaranteed for the expected number of guesses it takes Eve to guess the password is characterized for each scenario. Key to the proof are new results on Arikan's guessing and Bunte and Lapidoth's task-encoding problem; in particular, the paper establishes a close relation between the two problems. A rate-distortion version of the model is also discussed, as is a generalization that allows for Alice to produce δ (not necessarily two) hints, for Bob to observe ν (not necessarily two) of the hints, and for Eve to observe η (not necessarily one) of the hints. The generalized model is robust against δ - ν disk failures.

We characterize the largest normalized (by n) exponent that we can guarantee for the number of guesses it takes Eve to guess the password subject to the constraint that either the number of guesses it takes Bob to guess the password or the size of the list that Bob must form to guarantee that it contain the password approach 1 as n tends to infinity.

Secrecy-Achieving Polar-Coding for Binary-Input Memoryless Symmetric Wire-Tap Channels

A polar coding scheme is introduced in this paper for the wire-tap channel. It is shown that the provided scheme achieves the entire rate-equivocation region for the case of symmetric and degraded wire-tap channel, where the weak notion of secrecy is assumed. For the particular case of binary erasure wire-tap channel, an alternative proof is given. The case of general non-degraded wire-tap channels is also considered.
