Strong solutions for singular SDEs driven by long-range dependent fractional Brownian motion and other Volterra processes

We investigate the well-posedness of stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion, focusing on the long-range dependent case $H \in (\frac{1}{2}, 1)$. While existing results on regularization by such noise typically require Hölder continuity of the drift, we establish new strong existence and uniqueness results for certain classes of singular drifts, including discontinuous and highly irregular functions. More generally, we treat stochastic differential equations with additive noise given by a broader class of Volterra processes satisfying suitable kernel conditions, which, in addition to fractional Brownian motion, also includes the Riemann-Liouville process as a special case. Our approach relies on probabilistic arguments.

Regularization of Hyperbolic Stochastic Partial Differential Equations By Two Fractional Brownian Sheets

In this paper, we establish existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for a stochastic differential equation driven by an additive noise given by the sum of two correlated fractional Brownian sheets with different Hurst parameters. Our analysis relies on techniques from two-parameter fractional calculus and a tailored version of Girsanov's theorem. The main challenge arises from the correlation between the two noises and the technical requirements for applying Girsanov's theorem in this setting. We show that, despite these difficulties, the additive noise regularizes the equation, allowing well-posedness under weak assumptions on the drift.

Peaks over Threshold in Scale-Free Random Graphs

We explore extreme value phenomena in spatial scale-free random graphs in a continuum setting based on a homogeneous Poisson point process in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Vertices carry i.i.d. weights $(W_x)$ and, conditionally on the vertex set and the weights, edges are present independently with probability $p_{xy}=1-\exp\{-λW_xW_y/|x-y|^α\}$. Assuming Pareto-type weight tails with index $β>0$ and working in parameter ranges where degrees are almost surely finite, we study extremes and peaks over thresholds (POT) of edge lengths in a growing observation window. Our focus is the precise impact of the presence of (large) weights on edge lengths, captured through explicit scaling regimes and conditional POT limit theorems. Our main results identify a three-phase behavior governed by the weight-tail parameter $β$. We both deduce Fréchet-type limits for the maximum edge length itself and we reveal POT structures under a hub conditioning by proving a POT limit theorem. In the finite-mean regime $β>1$, the leading scaling agrees with the unweighted model up to a constant. By contrast, for $β\le 1$ the weights have a macroscopic effect on extreme edge lengths: for $β< 1$ the scaling changes, and the borderline case $β=1$ exhibits additional logarithmic corrections. The proofs combine Stein-type Poisson approximation via a Palm-coupling approach with a refined treatment of the dependence created by the conditioning event.

Tanaka formula for SDEs driven by fractional Brownian motion

We derive a Tanaka-type formula for the solution of a stochastic differential equation (SDE) driven by fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter $H > \frac{1}{2}$. While Tanaka formulas for the fractional Brownian motion itself have been established, a corresponding result for non-linear SDEs driven by fBm has so far been unavailable. Our formula reveals a structure not previously observed: it features both a Skorokhod integral and a Malliavin trace correction, where the analogue of the local time appears through a double integral involving the Dirac distribution and the Malliavin derivative of the solution. A second double integral captures the variation of the diffusion coefficient along the flow. A key step in our analysis is a novel method to establish $L^2$-convergence of the trace term, which avoids the use of white noise calculus and instead exploits Gaussian-type density estimates for the law of the solution. The result applies to a broad class of equations under suitable regularity assumptions and extends naturally to convex functionals. As special cases, we recover known identities for the fractional Brownian motion and the fractional Ornstein--Uhlenbeck process.

Gaussian-type density estimates for mixed SDEs driven by correlated fractional Brownian motions

In this work, we investigate the existence and properties of Gaussian-like densities for weak solutions of multidimensional stochastic differential equations driven by a mixture of completely correlated fractional Brownian motions. We consider both the short-range and long-range dependent regimes, imposing a singular drift in the short-range dependent case and a Hölder continuous drift in the long-range dependent setting. Our approach avoids the use of Malliavin calculus and stochastic dynamical systems, relying instead on the Girsanov theorem and the framework of exponential Orlicz spaces. By considering a conditionally Gaussian process, we establish the existence of a density with respect to the Lebesgue measure. Furthermore, we derive Gaussian-type upper and lower bounds for this density, illustrating the optimality of our results in the short-range dependent case.

Intersection probabilities for flats in hyperbolic space

Consider the $d$-dimensional hyperbolic space $\mathbb{M}_K^d$ of constant curvature $K<0$ and fix a point $o$ playing the role of an origin. Let $\mathbf{L}$ be a uniform random $q$-dimensional totally geodesic submanifold (called $q$-flat) in $\mathbb{M}_K^d$ passing through $o$ and, independently of $\mathbf{L}$, let $\mathbf{E}$ be a random $(d-q+γ)$-flat in $\mathbb{M}_K^d$ which is uniformly distributed in the set of all $(d-q+γ)$-flats intersecting a hyperbolic ball of radius $u>0$ around $o$. We are interested in the distribution of the random $γ$-flat arising as the intersection of $\mathbf{E}$ with $\mathbf{L}$. In contrast to the Euclidean case, the intersection $\mathbf{E}\cap \mathbf{L}$ can be empty with strictly positive probability. We determine this probability and the full distribution of $\mathbf{E}\cap \mathbf{L}$. Thereby, we elucidate crucial differences to the Euclidean case. Moreover, we study the limiting behaviour as $d\uparrow\infty$ and also $K\uparrow 0$. Thereby we obtain a phase transition with three different phases which we completely characterize, including a critical phase with distinctive behavior and a phase recovering the Euclidean results. In the background are methods from hyperbolic integral geometry.

On the existence and regularity of local times

We study the existence and regularity of local times for general $d$-dimensional stochastic processes. We give a general condition for their existence and regularity properties. To emphasize the contribution of our results, we show that they include various prominent examples, among others solutions to stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion, where the behavior of the local time was not fully understood up to now and remained as an open problem in the stochastic analysis literature. In particular this completes the picture regarding the local time behavior of such equations, above all includes high dimensions and both large and small Hurst parameters. As other main examples, we also show that by using our general approach, one can quite easily cover and extend some recently obtained results on the local times of the Rosenblatt process and Gaussian quasi-helices.

The longest edge in discrete and continuous long-range percolation

We consider the random connection model in which an edge between two Poisson points at distance $r$ is present with probability $g(r)$. We conduct an extreme value analysis on this model, namely by investigating the longest edge with at least one endpoint within some finite observation window, as the volume of this window tends to infinity. We show that the length of the latter, after normalizing by some appropriate centering and scaling sequences, asymptotically behaves like one of each of the three extreme value distributions, depending on choices of the probability $g(r)$. We prove our results by giving a formal construction of the model by means of a marked Poisson point process and a Poisson coupling argument adapted to this construction. In addition, we study a discrete variant of the model. We obtain parameter regimes with varying behavior in our findings and an unexpected singularity.

On the distances within cliques in a soft random geometric graph

We study the distances of edges within cliques in a soft random geometric graph on a torus, where the vertices are points of a homogeneous Poisson point process, and far-away points are less likely to be connected than nearby points. We obtain the scaling of the maximal distance between any two points within a clique of size $k$. Moreover, we show that asymptotically in all cliques with large distances, there is only one remote point and all other points are nearby. Furthermore, we prove that a re-scaled version of the maximal $k$-clique distance converges in distribution to a Fréchet distribution. Thereby, we describe the order of magnitude according to which the largest distance between two points in a clique decreases with the clique size.

The longest edge of the one-dimensional soft random geometric graph with boundaries

The object of study is a soft random geometric graph with vertices given by a Poisson point process on a line and edges between vertices present with probability that has a polynomial decay in the distance between them. Various aspects of such models related to connectivity structures have been studied extensively. In this paper we study the random graph from the perspective of extreme value theory and focus on the occurrence of single long edges. The model we investigate has non-periodic boundary and is parameterized by a positive constant $α$, which is the power for the polynomial decay of the probabilities determining the presence of an edge. As a main result we provide a precise description of the magnitude of the longest edge in terms of asymptotic behavior in distribution. Thereby we illustrate a crucial dependence on the power $α$ and we recover a phase transition which coincides with exactly the same phases in [2].

Graph distances of continuum long-range percolation

We consider a version of continuum long-range percolation on finite boxes of $\mathbb{R}^d$ in which the vertex set is given by the points of a Poisson point process and each pair of two vertices at distance $r$ is connected with probability proportional to $r^{-s}$ for a certain constant $s$. We explore the graph-theoretical distance in this model. The aim of this paper is to show that this random graph model undergoes phase transitions at values $s=d$ and $s=2d$ in analogy to classical long-range percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, by using techniques which are based on an analysis of the underlying Poisson point process.

Max-linear models in random environment

We extend previous work of max-linear models on finite directed acyclic graphs to infinite graphs as well as random graphs, and investigate their relations to classical percolation theory, more particularly the impact of Bernoulli bond percolation on such models. We show that the critical probability of percolation on the oriented square lattice graph $\mathbb{Z}^2$ describes a phase transition in the obtained model. Focus is on the dependence introduced by this graph into the max-linear model. We discuss natural applications in communication networks, in particular, concerning the propagation of influences.

Persistence probabilities of mixed FBM and other mixed processes

We consider the sum of two self-similar centred Gaussian processes with different self-similarity indices. Under non-negativity assumptions of covariance functions and some further minor conditions, we show that the asymptotic behaviour of the persistence probability of the sum is the same as for the single process with the greater self-similarity index. In particular, this covers the mixed fractional Brownian motion introduced in Cheridito (2001) and shows that the corresponding persistence probability decays asymptotically polynomially with persistence exponent $1-\max(1/2,H),$ where $H$ is the Hurst parameter of the underlying fractional Brownian motion.

Sample path properties of generalized random sheets with operator scaling

We consider operator scaling $α$-stable random sheets, which were introduced in [12]. The idea behind such fields is to combine the properties of operator scaling $α$-stable random fields introduced in [6] and fractional Brownian sheets introduced in [14]. We establish a general uniform modulus of continuity of such fields in terms of the polar coordinates introduced [6]. Based on this, we determine the box-counting dimension and the Hausdorff dimension of the graph of a trajectory of such fields over a non-degenerate cube $I \subset Rd$.

The Hausdorff dimension of multivariate operator-self-similar Gaussian random fields

Let $\{X(t) : t \in \mathbb{R}^d \}$ be a multivariate operator-self-similar random field with values in $\mathbb{R}^m$. Such fields were introduced in [24] and satisfy the scaling property $\{X(c^E t) : t \in \mathbb{R}^d \} \stackrel{\rm d}{=} \{c^D X(t) : t \in \mathbb{R}^d \}$ for all $c > 0$, where $E$ is a $d \times d$ real matrix and $D$ is an $m \times m$ real matrix. We solve an open problem in [24] by calculating the Hausdorff dimension of the range and graph of a trajectory over the unit cube $K = [0,1]^d$ in the Gaussian case. In particular, we enlighten the property that the Hausdorff dimension is determined by the real parts of the eigenvalues of $E$ and $D$ as well as the multiplicity of the eigenvalues of $E$.

Fractal behavior of multivariate operator-self-similar stable random fields

We investigate the sample path regularity of multivariate operator-self-similar stable random fields with values in $\mathbb{R}^m$ given by a harmonizable representation. Such fields were introduced in [25] as a generalization of both operator-self-similar stochastic processes and operator scaling random fields and satisfy the scaling property $\{X(c^E t) : t \in \mathbb{R}^d \} \stackrel{\rm d}{=} \{c^D X(t) : t \in \mathbb{R}^d \}$, where $E$ is a real $d \times d$ matrix and $D$ is a real $m \times m$ matrix. This paper provides the first results concerning sample path properties of such fields, including both $E$ and $D$ different from identity matrices. In particular, this solves an open problem in [25].

The random walk on the random connection model

We study the behavior of the random walk in a continuum independent long-range percolation model, in which two given vertices $x$ and $y$ are connected with probability that asymptotically behaves like $|x-y|^{-α}$ with $α>d$, where $d$ denotes the dimension of the underlying Euclidean space. More precisely, focus is on the random connection model in which the vertex set is given by the realization of a homogeneous Poisson point process. We show that this random graph exhibits the same properties as classical discrete long-range percolation models studied in [3] with regard to recurrence and transience of the random walk. The recurrence results are valid for every intensity of the Poisson point process while the transience results hold for large enough intensity. Moreover, we address a question which is related to a conjecture in [16] for this graph.

Regularization of differential equations by two fractional noises

In this paper we show the existence and uniqueness of a solution for a stochastic differential equation driven by an additive noise which is the sum of two fractional Brownian motions with different Hurst parameters. The proofs are based on the techniques of fractional calculus and Girsanov theorem. In particular, we show that the regularization effect of the fractional Brownian motion with the smaller Hurst index dominates.
