Koszul duality for algebras over infinity-operads

In this paper, we introduce a new notion of algebra over a linear $\infty$-operad and a corresponding notion of coalgebra over an $\infty$-cooperad. We next extend the Koszul duality between linear $\infty$-operads and linear $\infty$-cooperads from our previous paper (arXiv:2105.11943) to their categories of algebras and coalgebras. This duality theorem specialises to the known duality in the case of algebras over classical (non-infinity) operads, but our proof is different. In fact, it is based on a much more general duality between presheaves and copresheaves on a category of trees. The latter duality is a priori independent of the (co)algebra structures, but we show that it can be lifted to (co)presheaves supporting such a structure. Based on this duality, we define the homology of an algebra over an $\infty$-operad, and prove that it can be described in terms of the homology of the same category of trees with coefficients in a presheaf.

Simplicial properadic homotopy

In this paper, we settle the homotopy properties of the infinity-morphisms of homotopy (bial)-gebras over properads, i.e. algebraic structures made up of operations with several inputs and outputs. We start by providing the literature with characterizations for the various types of infinity-morphisms, the most seminal one being the equivalence between infinity-quasi-isomorphisms and zig-zags of quasi-isomorphisms which plays a key role in the study the formality property. We establish a simplicial enrichment for the categories of gebras over some cofibrant properads together with their infinity-morphisms, whose homotopy category provides us with the localisation with respect to infinity-quasi-isomorphisms. These results extend to the properadic level known properties for operads, but the lack of the rectification procedure in this setting forces us to use different methods.

Homology of infinity-operads

In a first part of this paper, we introduce a homology theory for infinity-operads and for dendroidal spaces which extends the usual homology of differential graded operads defined in terms of the bar construction, and we prove some of its basic properties. In a second part, we define general bar and cobar constructions. These constructions send infinity-operads to infinity-cooperads and vice versa, and define an adjoint bar-cobar (or "Koszul") duality. Somewhat surprisingly, this duality is shown to hold much more generally between arbitrary presheaves and copresheaves on the category of trees defining infinity-operads. We emphasize that our methods are completely elementary and explicit.

Properadic homotopical calculus

In this paper, we initiate the generalisation of the operadic calculus which governs the properties of homotopy algebras to a properadic calculus which governs the properties of homotopy gebras over a properad. In this first article of a series, we generalise the seminal notion of infini-morphisms and the ubiquitous homotopy transfer theorem. As an application, we recover the homotopy properties of involutive Lie bialgebras developed by Cieliebak--Fukaya--Latschev and we produce new explicit formulas.

Operads with compatible CL-shellable partition posets admit a Poincar\'e-Birkhoff-Witt basis

In 2007, Vallette built a bridge across posets and operads by proving that an operad is Koszul if and only if the associated partition posets are Cohen-Macaulay. Both notions of being Koszul and being Cohen-Macaulay admit different refinements: our goal here is to link two of these refinements. We more precisely prove that any (basic-set) operad whose associated posets admit isomorphism-compatible CL-shellings admits a Poincar\'e-Birkhoff-Witt basis. Furthermore, we give counter-examples to the converse.

Convergent presentations and polygraphic resolutions of associative algebras

Several constructive homological methods based on noncommutative Gröbner bases are known to compute free resolutions of associative algebras. In particular, these methods relate the Koszul property for an associative algebra to the existence of a quadratic Gröbner basis of its ideal of relations. In this article, using a higher-dimensional rewriting theory approach, we give several improvements of these methods. We define polygraphs for associative algebras as higher-dimensional linear rewriting systems that generalise the notion of noncommutative Gröbner bases, and allow more possibilities of termination orders than those associated to monomial orders. We introduce polygraphic resolutions of associative algebras, giving a categorical description of higher-dimensional syzygies for presentations of algebras. We show how to compute polygraphic resolutions starting from a convergent presentation, and how these resolutions can be linked with the Koszul property.

Shuffles of trees

We discuss a notion of shuffle for trees which extends the usual notion of a shuffle for two natural numbers. We give several equivalent descriptions, and prove some algebraic and combinatorial properties. In addition, we characterize shuffles in terms of open sets in a topological space associated to a pair of trees. Our notion of shuffle is motivated by the theory of operads and occurs in the theory of dendroidal sets, but our presentation is independent and entirely self-contained.

Obstruction theory for algebras over an operad

The goal of this paper is to set up an obstruction theory in the context of algebras over an operad and in the framework of differential graded modules over a field. Precisely, the problem we consider is the following: Suppose given two algebras A and B over an operad P and an algebra morphism from the homology of A to the homology of B. Can we realize this morphism as a morphism of P-algebras from A to B in the homotopy category? Also, if the realization exists, is it unique in the homotopy category? We identify obstruction cocycles for this problem, and notice that they live in the first two groups of operadic Gamma-cohomology.

Gamma-homology of algebras over an operad

The purpose of this paper is to study generalizations of Gamma-homology in the context of operads. Good homology theories are associated to operads under appropriate cofibrancy hypotheses, but this requirement is not satisfied by usual operads outside the characteristic zero context. In that case, the idea is to pick a cofibrant replacement Q of the given operad P. We can apply to P-algebras the homology theory associated to Q in order to define a suitable homology theory on the category of P-algebras. We make explicit a small complex to compute this homology when the operad P is binary and Koszul. In the case of the commutative operad P=Com, we retrieve the complex introduced by Robinson for the Gamma-homology of commutative algebras.

A Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt criterion for Koszul operads

The aim of this article is to give a criterion, generalizing the criterion introduced by Priddy for algebras, to verify that an operad is Koszul. We define the notion of a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt basis in the context of operads. Then we show that an operad having a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt basis is Koszul. Besides, we obtain that the Koszul dual operad has also a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt basis. We check that the classical examples of Koszul operads (commutative, associative, Lie) have a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt basis.
