Discrete series characters for affine Hecke algebras and their formal degrees

We introduce the generic central character of an irreducible discrete series representation of an affine Hecke algebra. Using this invariant we give a new classification of the irreducible discrete series characters for all abstract affine Hecke algebras (except for the types E) with arbitrary positive parameters and we prove an explicit product formula for their formal degrees (in all cases).

Analytic R-groups of affine Hecke algebras

We define analytic $R$-groups for affine Hecke algebras, and prove the analog of the Knapp-Stein Dimension Theorem. As a corollary we prove that the commutant algebra of a unitary principal series representation is isomorphic to the complex group algebra of the $R$-group, twisted by a certain 2-cocycle $γ$. For classical Hecke algebras we prove that $γ$ is always trivial.

On the tempered L-function conjecture

We give a general proof of Shahidi's tempered L-function conjecture, which has previously been known in all but one case. One of the consequences is the standard modules conjecture for p-adic groups, which means that the Langlands quotient of a standard module is generic if and only if the standard module is irreducible and the inducing data generic. We have also included the result that every generic tempered representation of a p-adic group is a sub-representation of a representation parabolically induced from a generic supercuspidal representation with a non-negative real central character.

Homological algebra for affine Hecke algebras

In this paper we study homological properties of modules over an affine Hecke algebra H. In particular we prove a comparison result for higher extensions of tempered modules when passing to the Schwartz algebra S, a certain topological completion of the affine Hecke algebra. The proof is self-contained and based on a direct construction of a bounded contraction of certain standard resolutions of H-modules. This construction applies for all positive parameters of the affine Hecke algebra. This is an important feature since it is an ingredient to analyse how the irreducible discrete series representations of H arise in generic families over the parameter space of H. For irreducible non-simply laced affine Hecke algebras this will enable us to give a complete classification of the discrete series characters for all positive parameters (we will report on this application in a separate article).

The Schwartz algebra of an affine Hecke algebra

For a general affine Hecke algebra H we study its Schwartz completion S. The main theorem is an exact description of the image of S under the Fourier isomorphism. An important ingredient in the proof of this result is the definition and computation of the constant terms of a coefficient of a generalized principal series representation. Finally we discuss some consequences of the main theorem for the theory of tempered representations of H.

On the category O for rational Cherednik algebras

We study the category O of representations of the rational Cherednik algebra A attached to a complex reflection group W. We construct an exact functor, called Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov functor, from O to the category of H-modules, where H is the (finite) Iwahori-Hecke algebra associated to W. We prove that the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov functor induces an equivalence between O/O_tor, the quotient of O by the subcategory of A-modules supported on the discriminant and the category of finite-dimensional H-modules. The standard A-modules go, under this equivalence, to certain modules arising in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory of ``cells'', provided W is a Weyl group and the Hecke algebra H has equal parameters. We prove that the category O is equivalent to the module category over a finite dimensional algebra, a generalized "q-Schur algebra" associated to W.
