Mars Clocks and other novel analog clocks, using Earth Standard Seconds

We present analog clocks fitted to the Mars solar day. These clocks use the standard Earth-based second of the International System of Units (SI) as their operational unit of time, unlike current practice for Mars timekeeping. We discuss the importance of preserving the SI second. On this basis, we identify the two analog clocks most suitable for public use by a future Mars population. These are a 20-hour clock with a hand motion similar to that of the standard Earth clock, and a 24-hour clock with a novel "Martian" hand motion which strikes the hour when all 3 hands converge onto that hour mark on the dial. Both clocks have Earth-day equivalents to assist learning. We also present a 24-hour "SpaceClock", similar to the Martian clock but with no favored reference plane, hence equally readable from any viewing orientation.

The Millions of Optical-Radio/X-ray Associations (MORX) Catalogue, v2

Announcing the release v2 of the MORX (Millions of Optical-Radio/X-ray Associations) catalogue which presents probable (40%-100% likelihood) radio/X-ray associations, including double radio lobes, to optical objects over the whole sky. Detections from all the largest radio/X-ray surveys to June 2023 are evaluated, those surveys being VLASS, LoTSS, RACS, FIRST, NVSS, and SUMSS radio surveys, and Chandra, XMM-Newton, Swift, and ROSAT X-ray surveys. The totals are 3,115,575 optical objects of all classifications (or unclassified) so associated. The MORX v2 catalogue is available on multiple sites.

The Million Quasars (Milliquas) Catalogue, v8

Announcing the final release, v8, of the Milliquas (Million Quasars) quasar catalogue which presents all published quasars to 30 June 2023, including quasars from the first releases of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) and the SDSS-DR18 Black Hole Mapper. Its totals are 907,144 type-I QSOs/AGN and 66,026 high-confidence (~99% likelihood) radio/X-ray associated quasar candidates. Type-II and Bl Lac type objects are also included, bringing the total count to 1,021,800. Gaia-EDR3 astrometry is given for most objects. The catalogue is available on NASA HEASARC and CDS and on its home page.

The Million Quasars (Milliquas) v7.2 Catalogue, now with VLASS associations. The inclusion of SDSS-DR16Q quasars is detailed

Announcing the release v7.2 of the Milliquas (Million Quasars) catalogue which presents all published quasars to 30 April 2021, including VLASS radio associations for the first time, and concluding the audit of quasars from SDSS-DR16Q and earlier SDSS releases. The totals are 829666 classified type-I QSOs/AGN, 703348 quasar candidates of 60%-100% pQSO, plus type-II objects and blazars which bring the total count to 1573824. Radio and/or X-ray associations, including probable double radio lobes, are shown for 333638 entries. Gaia-DR2 astrometry is given for most objects, as available. The catalogue is available on multiple sites. The inclusion of the SDSS-DR16Q quasars was a complex task with emergent issues which resulted in 13443 DR16Q entries being dropped, 1.79% of their total. There are also 1701 quasars included from earlier visual SDSS releases, as well as 14232 quasars from the SDSS-DR16 pipeline catalogue. All these are explained here, including the validation of 677 additional high-redshift (z>=3.5) SDSS quasars which were not included in DR16Q.

Identification confusion and blending concealment in the SDSS-DR16 Quasar catalogues -- 40 new quasars and 82 false quasars identified

The SDSS-DR16 Quasar Superset and pipeline catalogues are searched for undeclared quasars which were concealed by or confused with other objects, usually due to incomplete deblending. Forty such quasars with redshifts are found and herewith presented. Also, 82 entries in the SDSS-DR16Q main quasar catalogue are shown to be non-quasars, some also due to incomplete deblending, especially "line poachers". Other non-quasars are shown to be star spikes or moving stars or other types, and 7 new quasars are identified from analysis of "unplugged" spectra. These numbers are tiny compared with the millions of DR16 spectra, but highlight some heretofore overlooked systematics. The deblending issue is discussed throughout.

An All-Sky Portable (ASP) Optical Catalogue

This optical catalogue combines the all-sky USNO-B1.0/A1.0 and most-sky APM catalogues, plus overlays of SDSS optical data, into a single all-sky map presented in a sparse binary format which is easily downloaded at 9Gb zipped. Total count is 1,163,237,190 sources and each has J2000 astrometry, red & blue magnitudes with PSFs and variability indicator, and flags for proper motion, epoch, and source survey & catalogue for each of the photometry and astrometry.
