A categorification of Morelli's theorem

We prove a theorem relating torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on toric varieties to polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on a vector space. At the level of K-theory, the theorem recovers Morelli's description of the K-theory of a smooth projective toric variety. Specifically, let $X$ be a proper toric variety of dimension $n$ and let $M_\bR = \mathrm{Lie}(T_\bR^\vee)\cong \bR^n$ be the Lie algebra of the compact dual (real) torus $T_\bR^\vee\cong U(1)^n$. Then there is a corresponding conical Lagrangian $Λ\subset T^*M_\bR$ and an equivalence of triangulated dg categories $\Perf_T(X) \cong \Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;Λ),$ where $\Perf_T(X)$ is the triangulated dg category of perfect complexes of torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ and $\Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;Λ)$ is the triangulated dg category of complex of sheaves on $M_\bR$ with compactly supported, constructible cohomology whose singular support lies in $Λ$. This equivalence is monoidal---it intertwines the tensor product of coherent sheaves on $X$ with the convolution product of constructible sheaves on $M_\bR$.

The Coherent-Constructible Correspondence and Fourier-Mukai Transforms

In arXiv:math/0311139, as evidence for his conjecture in birational log geometry, Kawamata constructed a family of derived equivalences between toric orbifolds. In arXiv:0911.4711, we showed that the derived category of a toric orbifold is naturally identified with a category of polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on R^n. In this paper we investigate and reprove some of Kawamata's results from this perspective.

T-Duality and Homological Mirror Symmetry of Toric Varieties

Let $X_Σ$ be a complete toric variety. The coherent-constructible correspondence $κ$ of \cite{FLTZ} equates $\Perf_T(X_Σ)$ with a subcategory $Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;\LS)$ of constructible sheaves on a vector space $M_\bR.$ The microlocalization equivalence $μ$ of \cite{NZ,N} relates these sheaves to a subcategory $Fuk(T^*M_\bR;\LS)$ of the Fukaya category of the cotangent $T^*M_\bR$. When $X_\Si$ is nonsingular, taking the derived category yields an equivariant version of homological mirror symmetry, $DCoh_T(X_\Si)\cong DFuk(T^*M_\bR;\LS)$, which is an equivalence of triangulated tensor categories. The nonequivariant coherent-constructible correspondence $\barκ$ of \cite{T} embeds $\Perf(X_\Si)$ into a subcategory $Sh_c(T_\bR^\vee;\barΛ_\Si)$ of constructible sheaves on a compact torus $T_\bR^\vee$. When $X_\Si$ is nonsingular, the composition of $\barκ$ and microlocalization yields a version of homological mirror symmetry, $DCoh(X_Σ)\hookrightarrow DFuk(T^*T_\bR;\barΛ_\Si)$, which is a full embedding of triangulated tensor categories. When $X_\Si$ is nonsingular and projective, the composition $τ=μ\circ κ$ is compatible with T-duality, in the following sense. An equivariant ample line bundle $\cL$ has a hermitian metric invariant under the real torus, whose connection defines a family of flat line bundles over the real torus orbits. This data produces a T-dual Lagrangian brane $\mathbb L$ on the universal cover $T^*M_\bR$ of the dual real torus fibration. We prove $\mathbb L\cong τ(\cL)$ in $Fuk(T^*M_\bR;\LS).$ Thus, equivariant homological mirror symmetry is determined by T-duality.

The Coherent-Constructible Correspondence for Toric Deligne-Mumford Stacks

We extend our previous work arXiv:1007.0053 on coherent-constructible correspondence for toric varieties to include toric Deligne-Mumford (DM) stacks. Following Borisov-Chen-Smith, a toric DM stack $\cX_\bSi$ is described by a "stacky fan" $\bSi=(N,\Si,β)$, where $N$ is a finitely generated abelian group and $\Si$ is a simplicial fan in $N_\bR=N\otimes_{\bZ}\bR$. From $\bSi$ we define a conical Lagrangian $Λ_\bSi$ inside the cotangent $T^*M_\bR$ of the dual vector space $M_\bR$ of $N_\bR$, such that torus-equivariant, coherent sheaves on $\cX_\bSi$ are equivalent to constructible sheaves on $M_\bR$ with singular support in $\LbS$.

Affine Manifolds, SYZ Geometry, and the "Y" Vertex

We study the real Monge-Ampère equation in two and three dimensions, both from the point of view of the SYZ conjecture, where solutions give rise to semi-flat Calabi-Yau's and in affine differential geometry, where solutions yield parabolic affine sphere hypersurfaces. We find explicit examples, connect the holomorphic function representation to Hitchin's description of special Lagrangian moduli space, and construct the developing map explicitly for a singularity corresponding to the type $I_n$ elliptic fiber (after hyper-Kähler rotation). Following Baues and Cortés, we show that various types of metric cones over two-dimensional elliptic affine spheres generate solutions of the Monge-Ampère equation in three dimensions. We then prove a local and global existence theorem for an elliptic affine two-sphere metric with prescribed singularities. The metric cone over the two-sphere minus three points yields a parabolic affine sphere with singularities along a "Y"-shaped locus. This gives a semi-flat Calabi-Yau metric in a neighborhood of the "Y" vertex. In the erratum, we correct a gap in the solution of the elliptic affine sphere equation (with the small caveat that a parameter in the equation, the cubic differential, must be smaller than we assumed before). The new proof still allows us to construct semi-flat Calabi-Yau metrics in a neighborhood of the "Y" vertex by appealing to the result of Baues-Cortés. We also give an alternate construction of such semi-flat Calabi-Yau metrics by using a result on hyperbolic affine spheres due to the first author.

Constructible Sheaves and the Fukaya Category

Let $X$ be a compact real analytic manifold, and let $T^*X$ be its cotangent bundle. Let $Sh(X)$ be the triangulated dg category of bounded, constructible complexes of sheaves on $X$. In this paper, we develop a Fukaya $A_\infty$-category $Fuk(T^*X)$ whose objects are exact, not necessarily compact Lagrangian branes in the cotangent bundle. We write $Tw Fuk(T^*X)$ for the $A_\infty$-triangulated envelope of $Fuk(T^*X)$ consisting of twisted complexes of Lagrangian branes. Our main result is that $Sh(X)$ quasi-embeds into $Tw Fuk(T^*X)$ as an $A_\infty$-category. Taking cohomology gives an embedding of the corresponding derived categories.

Seidel's Mirror Map for Abelian Varieties

We compute Seidel's mirror map for abelian varieties by constructing the homogeneous coordinate rings from the Fukaya category of the symplectic mirrors. The computations are feasible as only linear holomorphic disks contribute to the Fukaya composition in the case of the planar Lagrangians used. The map depends on a symplectomorphism $ρ$ representing the large complex structure monodromy. For the example of the two-torus, different families of elliptic curves are obtained by using different $ρ$ which are linear in the universal cover. In the case where $ρ$ is merely affine linear in the universal cover, the commutative elliptic curve mirror is embedded in noncommutative projective space. The case of Kummer surfaces is also considered.

Seidel's Mirror Map for the Torus

Using only the Fukaya category and the monodromy around large complex structure, we reconstruct the mirror map in the case of a symplectic torus. This realizes an idea described by Paul Seidel.

Coisotropic Branes, Noncommutativity, and the Mirror Correspondence

We study coisotropic A-branes in the sigma model on a four-torus by explicitly constructing examples. We find that morphisms between coisotropic branes can be equated with a fundamental representation of the noncommutatively deformed algebra of functions on the intersection. The noncommutativity parameter is expressed in terms of the bundles on the branes. We conjecture these findings hold in general. To check mirror symmetry, we verify that the dimensions of morphism spaces are equal to the corresponding dimensions of morphisms between mirror objects.

Random Multiplication Approaches Uniform Measure in Finite Groups

In order to study how well a finite group might be generated by repeated random multiplications, P. Diaconis suggested the following urn model. An urn contains some balls labeled by elements which generate a group G. Two are drawn at random with replacement and a ball labeled with the group product (in the order they were picked) is added to the urn. We give a proof of his conjecture that the limiting fraction of balls labeled by each group element almost surely approaches 1/|G|.

Duality and Fibrations on G_2 Manifolds

We argue that G_2 manifolds for M-theory admitting string theory Calabi-Yau duals are fibered by coassociative submanifolds. Dual theories are constructed using the moduli space of M5-brane fibers as target space. Mirror symmetry and various string and M-theory dualities involving G_2 manifolds may be incorporated into this framework. To give some examples, we construct two non-compact manifolds with G_2 structures: one with a K3 fibration, and one with a torus fibration and a metric of G_2 holonomy. Kaluza-Klein reduction of the latter solution gives abelian BPS monopoles in 3+1 dimensions.

Open-String Gromov-Witten Invariants: Calculations and a Mirror "Theorem"

We propose localization techniques for computing Gromov-Witten invariants of maps from Riemann surfaces with boundaries into a Calabi-Yau, with the boundaries mapped to a Lagrangian submanifold. The computations can be expressed in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants of one-pointed maps. In genus zero, an equivariant version of the mirror theorem allows us to write down a hypergeometric series, which together with a mirror map allows one to compute the invariants to all orders, similar to the closed string model or the physics approach via mirror symmetry. In the noncompact example where the Calabi-Yau is $K_{\PP^2},$ our results agree with physics predictions at genus zero obtained using mirror symmetry for open strings. At higher genera, our results satisfy strong integrality checks conjectured from physics.

From Special Lagrangian to Hermitian-Yang-Mills via Fourier-Mukai Transform

We exhibit a transformation taking special Lagrangian submanifolds of a Calabi-Yau together with local systems to vector bundles over the mirror manifold with connections obeying deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equations. That is, the transformation relates supersymmetric A- and B-cycles. In this paper, we assume that the mirror pair are dual torus fibrations with flat tori and that the A-cycle is a section. We also show that this transformation preserves the (holomorphic) Chern-Simons functional for all connections. Furthermore, on corresponding moduli spaces of supersymmetric cycles it identifies the graded tangent spaces and the holomorphic m-forms. In particular, we verify Vafa's mirror conjecture with bundles in this special case.

Categorical Mirror Symmetry: The Elliptic Curve

We describe an isomorphism of categories conjectured by Kontsevich. If $M$ and $\widetilde{M}$ are mirror pairs then the conjectural equivalence is between the derived category of coherent sheaves on $M$ and a suitable version of Fukaya's category of Lagrangian submanifolds on $\widetilde{M}.$ We prove this equivalence when $M$ is an elliptic curve and $\widetilde{M}$ is its dual curve, exhibiting the dictionary in detail.

Local Mirror Symmetry at Higher Genus

We discuss local mirror symmetry for higher-genus curves. Specifically, we consider the topological string partition function of higher-genus curves contained in a Fano surface within a Calabi-Yau. Our main example is the local P^2 case. The Kodaira-Spencer theory of gravity, tailored to this local geometry, can be solved to compute this partition function. Then, using the results of Gopakumar and Vafa and the local mirror map, the partition function can be rewritten in terms of expansion coefficients, which are found to be integers. We verify, through localization calculations in the A-model, many of these Gromov-Witten predictions. The integrality is a mystery, mathematically speaking. The asymptotic growth (with degree) of the invariants is analyzed. Some suggestions are made towards an enumerative interpretation, following the BPS-state description of Gopakumar and Vafa.

Mirror Symmetry is T-Duality

It is argued that every Calabi-Yau manifold $X$ with a mirror $Y$ admits a family of supersymmetric toroidal 3-cycles. Moreover the moduli space of such cycles together with their flat connections is precisely the space $Y$. The mirror transformation is equivalent to T-duality on the 3-cycles. The geometry of moduli space is addressed in a general framework. Several examples are discussed.
