Maass-Selberg relations for Whittaker functions on a real reductive group

We give a complete proof of the Maass-Selberg relations for Whittaker integrals on a real reductive group. These relations were asserted In unpublished work of Harish-Chandra, and proven in the basic setting of maximal parabolic parabolic subgroups. Our proof is a reduction to the mentioned basic setting. It makes use of the action of standard intertwining operators on Whittaker distribution vectors in the generalized principal series of representations. The Maass-Selberg relations imply regularity of normalized Whittaker integrals. This is crucial for decent behavior of Fourier and wave packet transforms on the level of spherical Schwartz spaces.

$K$-invariant cusp forms for reductive symmetric spaces of split rank one

Let $G/H$ be a reductive symmetric space of split rank $1$ and let $K$ be a maximal compact subgroup of $G$. In a previous article the first two authors introduced a notion of cusp forms for $G/H$. We show that the space of cusp forms coincides with the closure of the $K$-finite generalized matrix coefficients of discrete series representations if and only if there exist no $K$-spherical discrete series representations. Moreover, we prove that every $K$-spherical discrete series representation occurs with multiplicity $1$ in the Plancherel decomposition of $G/H$.

Normalizations of Eisenstein integrals for reductive symmetric spaces

We construct minimal Eisenstein integrals for a reductive symmetric space G/H as matrix coefficients of the minimal principal series of G. The Eisenstein integrals thus obtained include those from the σ-minimal principal series. In addition, we obtain related Eisenstein integrals, but with different normalizations. Specialized to the case of the group, this wider class includes Harish-Chandra's minimal Eisenstein integrals.

The notion of cusp forms for a class of reductive symmetric spaces of split rank one

We study a notion of cusp forms for the symmetric spaces G/H with G = SL(n,R) and H = S(GL(n-1,R) x GL(1,R)). We classify all minimal parabolic subgroups of G for which the associated cuspidal integrals are convergent and discuss the possible definitions of cusp forms. Finally, we show that the closure of the direct sum of the discrete series of representations of G/H coincides with the space of cusp forms.

Cusp forms for reductive symmetric spaces of split rank one

For reductive symmetric spaces G/H of split rank one we identify a class of minimal parabolic subgroups for which certain cuspidal integrals of Harish-Chandra - Schwartz functions are absolutely convergent. Using these integrals we introduce a notion of cusp forms and investigate its relation with representations of the discrete series for G/H.
