Supersymmetric U(1) Gauge Realization of the Dark Scalar Doublet Model of Radiative Neutrino Mass

Adding a second scalar doublet (eta^+,eta^0) and three neutral singlet fermions N_{1,2,3} to the Standard Model of particle interactions with a new Z_2 symmetry, it has been shown that Re(eta^0) or Im(eta^0) is a good dark-matter candidate and seesaw neutrino masses are generated radiatively. A supersymmetric U(1) gauge extension of this new idea is proposed, which enforces the usual R parity of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, and allows this new Z_2 symmetry to emerge as a discrete remnant.

Multipartite Dark Matter

Dark matter (comprising a quarter of the Universe) is usually assumed to be due to one and only one weakly interacting particle which is neutral and absolutely stable. We consider the possibility that there are several coexisting dark-matter particles, and explore in some detail the generic case where there are two. We discuss how the second dark-matter particle may relax the severe constraints on the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, as well as other verifiable predictions in both direct and indirect search experiments.

Observing the Dark Scalar Doublet and its Impact on the Standard-Model Higgs Boson at Colliders

If the Standard Model of particle interactions is extended to include a second scalar doublet $[H^{+},(H^{0}+iA^{0})/\sqrt{2}]$, which is odd under an unbroken Z_{2} discrete symmetry, it may be called the $dark$ scalar doublet, because its lightest neutral member, say H^{0}, is one posssible component for the dark matter of the Universe. We discuss the general phenomenology of the four particles of this doublet, without assuming that H^{0} is the dominant source of dark matter. We also consider the impact of this $dark$ scalar doublet on the phenomenology of the SM Higgs boson h.

Common origin of θ_{13} and Δm^2_{12} in a model of neutrino mass with quaternion symmetry

The smallness of the 1-3 lepton mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and of the neutrino mass-squared-difference ratio $Δm^2_{12}/Δm^2_{23}$ can be understood as the departure from a common limit where they both vanish. We discuss in general the conditions for realizing the mass degeneracy of a pair of neutrinos and show that the vanishing of a CP violating phase is needed. We find that the discrete quaternion group Q of eight elements is the simplest family symmetry which correlates the smallness of $Δm^2_{12}$ to the value of $θ_{13}$. In such a model we predict $0.12\lesssim \sinθ_{13} \lesssim 0.2$ if the ordering of the neutrino mass spectrum is normal, and $\sinθ_{13}\lesssim 0.12$ if it is inverted.

SU(5) Completion of the Dark Scalar Doublet Model of Radiative Neutrino Mass

Adding a second scalar doublet (eta^+,eta^0) and three neutral singlet fermions N_{1,2,3} to the Standard Model of particle interactions with a new Z_2 symmetry, it has been shown that eta^0_R or eta^0_I is a good dark-matter candidate and seesaw neutrino masses are generated radiatively. A minimal extension of this new idea is proposed to allow for its SU(5) completion. Supersymmetric unification is then possible, and leptoquarks of a special kind are predicted at the TeV scale.

Multiplicative Conservation of Baryon Number and Baryogenesis

In the canonical seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass, lepton number is only multiplicatively conserved, which enables the important phenomenon of leptogenesis to occur, as an attractive explanation of the present baryon asymmetry of the Universe. A parallel possibility, hitherto unrecognized, also holds for baryon number and baryogenesis. This new idea is shown to be naturally realized in the context of a known supersymmetric string-inspired extension of the Standard Model, based on E(6) particle content, and having an extra U(1)_N gauge symmetry. Within this framework, two-loop radiative neutrino masses are also possible, together with a new form of very long-lived matter.

Singlet fermion dark matter and electroweak baryogenesis with radiative neutrino mass

The model of radiative neutrino mass with dark matter proposed by one of us is extended to include a real singlet scalar field. There are then two important new consequences. One is the realistic possibility of having the lightest neutral singlet fermion (instead of the lightest neutral component of the dark scalar doublet) as the dark matter of the Universe. The other is a modification of the effective Higgs potential of the Standard Model, consistent with electroweak baryogenesis.

Z_3 Dark Matter and Two-Loop Neutrino Mass

Dark matter is usually distinguished from ordinary matter by an odd-even parity, i.e. the discrete symmetry Z_2. The new idea of Z_3 dark matter is proposed with a special application to generating radiative Majorana neutrino masses in two-loop order.

Near Tribimaximal Neutrino Mixing with Delta(27) Symmetry

The discrete subgroup Delta(27) of SU(3) has the interesting multiplication rule 3 X 3 = bar{3} + bar{3} + bar{3}, which is used to obtain near tribimaximal neutrino mixing. Using present neutrino oscillation data as input, this model predicts that the effective mass m_{ee} measured in neutrinoless double beta decay will be 0.14 eV.

New Lepton Family Symmetry and Neutrino Tribimaximal Mixing

The newly proposed finite symmetry Sigma(81) is applied to the problem of neutrino tribimaximal mixing. The result is more satisfactory than those of previous models based on A_4 in that the use of auxiliary symmetries (or mechanisms) may be avoided. Deviations from the tribimaximal pattern are expected, but because of its basic structure, only tan^2 (theta_12) may differ significantly from 0.5 (say 0.45) with sin^2 (2 theta_23) remaining very close to one, and theta_13 very nearly zero.

Non-Abelian Discrete Flavor Symmetries

This is an incomplete survey of some non-Abelian discrete symmetries which have been used recently in attempts to understand the flavor structure of leptons and quarks. To support such symmetries, new scalar particles are required. In some models, they are very massive, in which case there may not be much of a trace of their existence at the TeV scale. In other models, they are themselves at the TeV scale, in which case there is a reasonable chance for them to be revealed at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN.

Gluino Axion, Neutrino Seesaw, Dynamical Gaugino Mass, and A = 0 Supersymmetry

In the axionic solution of the strong CP problem, fermions which transform under quantum chromodynamics (QCD) are required. In supersymmetry, by equating U(1)_{PQ} with U(1)_R, the natural candidates are the gluinos, as pointed out some years ago. A new specific implementation of this idea is proposed, linking the gluino axion scale to that of the canonical seesaw mechanism for neutrinos. Gaugino masses are generated dynamically and the A term is predicted to be very small.

Revelations of the E_6/U(1)_N Model: Two-Loop Neutrino Mass and Dark Matter

The E_6/U(1)_N gauge extension of the Supersymmetric Standard Model, first proposed by Ma, is shown to have exactly the requisite ingredients to realize the important new idea that dark matter is the origin of neutrino mass. With the implementation of a discrete Z_2 X Z_2 symmetry, and particle content given by three {27} representations of E_6, neutrino masses are naturally generated in two loops, with candidates of dark matter in the loops. All particles of this model are expected to be at or below the TeV scale, allowing them to be observable at the LHC.

Minimal supergravity radiative effects on the tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing pattern

We study the stability of the Harrison-Perkins-Scott (HPS) mixing pattern, assumed to hold at some high energy scale, against supersymmetric radiative corrections. We work in the framework of a reference minimal supergravity model (mSUGRA) where supersymmetry breaking is universal and flavor-blind at unification. The radiative corrections considered include both RGE running as well as threshold effects. We find that in this case the solar mixing angle can only increase with respect to the HPS reference value, while the atmospheric and reactor mixing angles remain essentially stable. Deviations from the solar angle HPS prediction towards lower values would signal novel contributions from physics beyond the simplest mSUGRA model.

Lepton Family Symmetry and Possible Application to the Koide Mass Formula

A finite group generated by four Z_3 transformations is applied to lepton families in a supersymmetric model, resulting in the charged-lepton masses m_i being proportional to v_i^2, where v_i are three vacuum expectation values. This may be relevant in obtaining the Koide formula m_e + m_mu + m_tau = (2/3)(sqrt{m_e} + sqrt{m_mu} + sqrt(m_tau})^2.

Low-Energy Thermal Leptogenesis in an Extended NMSSM Model

Thermal leptogenesis in the canonical seesaw model in supersymmetry suffers from the incompatibility of a generic lower bound on the mass scale of the lightest right-handed neutrino and the upper bound on the reheating temperature of the Universe after inflation. This is resolved by adding an extra singlet superfield, with a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, to the NMSSM (Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model). This generic mechanism is applicable to any supersymmetric model for lowering the scale of leptogenesis.
