Cobimaximal Neutrino Mixing from $A_4$ and its Possible Deviation

It has recently been shown that the phenomenologically successful pattern of cobimaximal neutrino mixing ($θ_{13} \neq 0$, $θ_{23} = π/4$, and $δ_{CP} = \pm π/2$) may be achieved in the context of the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $A_4$, if the neutrino mass matrix is diagonalized by an orthogonal matrix ${\cal O}$. We study how this pattern would deviate if ${\cal O}$ is replaced by an unitary matrix.

Radiative Left-Right Dirac Neutrino Mass

We consider the conventional left-right gauge extension of the standard model of quarks and leptons without a scalar bidoublet. We study systematically how one-loop radiative Dirac neutrino masses may be obtained. In addition to two well-known cases from almost 30 years ago, we find two new scenarios with verifiable predictions.

New Class of Two-Loop Neutrino Mass Models with Distinguishable Phenomenology

We discuss a new class of neutrino mass models generated in two loops, and explore specifically three new physics scenarios: (A) doubly charged scalar, (B) dark matter, and (C) leptoquark and diquark, which are verifiable at the 14 TeV LHC Run-II. We point out how the different Higgs insertions will distinguish our two-loop topology with others if the new particles in the loop are in the simplest representations of the SM gauge group.

Cobimaximal Neutrino Mixing from $S_3 \times Z_2$

It has recently been shown that the phenomenologically successful pattern of cobimaximal neutrino mixing ($θ_{13} \neq 0$, $θ_{23} = π/4$, and $δ_{CP} = \pm π/2$) may be achieved in the context of the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $A_4$. In this paper, the same goal is achieved with $S_3 \times Z_2$. The residual lepton $Z_3$ triality in the case of $A_4$ is replaced here by $Z_2 \times Z_2$. The associated phenomenology of the scalar sector is discussed.

Anomalous leptonic U(1) symmetry: Syndetic origin of the QCD axion, weak-scale dark matter, and radiative neutrino mass

The well-known leptonic U(1) symmetry of the standard model of quarks and leptons is extended to include a number of new fermions and scalars. The resulting theory has an invisible QCD axion (thereby solving the strong CP problem), a candidate for weak-scale dark matter, as well as radiative neutrino masses. A possible key connection is a color-triplet scalar, which may be produced and detected at the Large Hadron Collider.

Dark Gauge U(1) Symmetry for an Alternative Left-Right Model

An alternative left-right model of quarks and leptons, where the $SU(2)_R$ lepton doublet $(ν,l)_R$ is replaced with $(n,l)_R$ so that $n_R$ is not the Dirac mass partner of $ν_L$, has been known since 1987. Previous versions assumed a global $U(1)_S$ symmetry to allow $n$ to be identified as a dark-matter fermion. We propose here a gauge extension by the addition of extra fermions to render the model free of gauge anomalies, and just one singlet scalar to break $U(1)_S$. This results in two layers of dark matter, one hidden behind the other.

Pseudo-Majoron as Light Mediator of Singlet Scalar Dark Matter

In the singlet-triplet majoron model of neutrino mass, lepton number is spontaneously broken. If it is also softly broken, then a naturally light pseudoscalar particle $η_I$ exists. It may then act as a light mediator for a real singlet scalar $χ$ with odd dark parity. It is itself unstable, but decays dominantly to two neutrinos through its triplet scalar component, thereby not disturbing the cosmic microwave background (CMB). It also mixes with the standard-model Higgs boson only in one loop, thereby not contributing significantly to the elastic scattering of $χ$ off nuclei in dark-matter direct-search experiments.

Inception of Self-Interacting Dark Matter with Dark Charge Conjugation Symmetry

A new understanding of the stability of self-interacting dark matter is pointed out, based on the simplest spontaneously broken Abelian $U(1)$ gauge model with one complex scalar and one Dirac fermion. The key is the imposition of dark charge conjugation symmetry. It allows the possible existence of two stable particles: the Dirac fermion and the vector gauge boson which acts as a light mediator for the former's self-interaction. Since this light mediator does not decay, it avoids the strong cosmological constraints recently obtained for all such models where the light mediator decays into standard-model particles.

The Many Guises of a Neutral Fermion Singlet

The addition of a neutral fermion singlet to the standard model of particle interactions leads to many diverse possibilities. It is not necessarily a right-handed neutrino. I discuss many of the simplest and most interesting scenarios of possible new physics with this approach. In particular I propose the possible spontaneous breaking of baryon number, resulting in the massless 'sakharon'.

Quartified Leptonic Color, Bound States, and Future Electron-Positron Collider

The $[SU(3)]^4$ quartification model of Babu, Ma, and Willenbrock (BMW), proposed in 2003, predicts a confining leptonic color $SU(2)$ gauge symmetry, which becomes strong at the keV scale. It also predicts the existence of three families of half-charged leptons (hemions) below the TeV scale. These hemions are confined to form bound states which are not so easy to discover at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, just as $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ appeared as sharp resonances in $e^-e^+$ colliders of the 20th century, the corresponding 'hemionium' states are expected at a future $e^-e^+$ collider of the 21st century.

Generalized Gauge U(1) Family Symmetry for Quarks and Leptons

If the standard model of quarks and leptons is extended to include three singlet right-handed neutrinos, then the resulting fermion structure admits an infinite number of anomaly-free solutions with just one simple constraint. Well-known examples satisfying this constraint are $B-L$, $L_μ-L_τ$ , $B-3L_τ$ , etc. We derive this simple constraint, and discuss two new examples which offer some insights to the structure of mixing among quark and lepton families, together with their possible verification at the Large Hadron Collider.

Pathways to Naturally Small Dirac Neutrino Masses

If neutrinos are truly Dirac fermions, the smallness of their masses may still be natural if certain symmetries exist beyond those of the standard model of quarks and leptons. We perform a systematic study of how this may occur at tree level and in one loop. We also propose a scotogenic version of the left-right gauge model with naturally small Dirac neutrino masses in one loop.

Self-Interacting Dark Matter with Naturally Light Mediator

A promising proposal for resolving the cusp-core anomaly in the density profile of dwarf galaxies is to allow dark matter to interact with itself through a light mediator of mass much less than a GeV. The theoretical challenge is to have a complete renormalizable theory where this happens naturally even though dark matter itself may be of the electroweak scale, i.e. 100 GeV to 1 TeV. I propose here such a model, with just two neutral complex scalar singlets under a softly broken dark global U(1) symmetry.

Two-loop Dirac neutrino mass and WIMP dark matter

We propose a "scotogenic" mechanism relating small neutrino mass and cosmological dark matter. Neutrinos are Dirac fermions with masses arising only in two--loop order through the sector responsible for dark matter. Two triality symmetries ensure both dark matter stability and strict lepton number conservation at higher orders. A global spontaneously broken U(1) symmetry leads to a physical $Diracon$ that induces invisible Higgs decays which add up to the Higgs to dark matter mode. This enhances sensitivities to spin-independent WIMP dark matter search below $m_h/2$.

Verifiable Associated Processes from Radiative Lepton Masses with Dark Matter

If leptons do not couple directly to the one Higgs doublet of the standard model of particle interactions, they must still do so somehow indirectly to acquire mass, as proposed recently in several models where it happens in one loop through dark matter. We analyze the important consequences of this scenario in a specific model, including Higgs decay, muon anomalous magnetic moment, $μ\to e γ$, $μ\to eee$, and the proposed dark sector.

Connecting Radiative Neutrino Mass, Neutron-Antineutron Oscillation, Proton Decay, and Leptogenesis through Dark Matter

The scotogenic mechanism for radiative neutrino mass is generalized to include neutron-antineutron oscillation as well as proton decay. Dark matter is stabilized by extending the notion of lepton parity to matter parity. Leptogenesis is also a possible byproduct. This framework unifies the description of all these important, but seemingly unrelated, topics in physics beyond the standard model of particle interactions.

Radiative Model of Neutrino Mass with Neutrino Interacting MeV Dark Matter

We consider the radiative generation of neutrino mass through the interactions of neutrinos with MeV dark matter. We construct a realistic renormalizable model with one scalar doublet and one complex singlet together with three light singlet Majorana fermions, all transforming under a dark U(1) symmetry which breaks softly to Z_2. We study in detail the scalar sector which supports this specific scenario and its rich phenomenology.

Progressive Gauge U(1) Family Symmetry for Quarks and Leptons

The pattern of quark and lepton mass matrices is unexplained in the standard model of particle interactions. I propose the novel idea of a progressive gauge U(1) symmetry where it is a reflection of the regressive electroweak symmetry breaking pattern, caused by an extended Higgs scalar sector. Phenomenological implications of this new hypothesis are discussed.
