Congruences for Stochastic Automata

Congruences for stochastic automata are defined, the correspondin factor automata are constructed and investigated for automata ove analytic spaces. We study the behavior under finite and infinite streams. Congruences consist of multiple parts, it is shown that factoring can be done in multiple steps, guided by these parts.

Using Coalgebras and the Giry Monad for Interpreting Game Logics --- A Tutorial

The stochastic interpretation of Parikh's game logic should not follow the usual pattern of Kripke models, which in turn are based on the Kleisli morphisms for the Giry monad, rather, a specific and more general approach to probabilistic nondeterminism is required. We outline this approach together with its probabilistic and measure theoretic basis, introducing in a leisurely pace the Giry monad and their Kleisli morphisms together with important techniques for manipulating them. Proof establishing specific techniques are given, and pointers to the extant literature are provided. After working through this tutorial, the reader should find it easier to follow the original literature in this and related areas, and it should be possible for her or him to appreciate measure theoretic arguments for original work in the areas of Markov transition systems, and stochastic effectivity functions.

Stochastic Nondeterminism and Effectivity Functions

This paper investigates stochastic nondeterminism on continuous state spaces by relating nondeterministic kernels and stochastic effectivity functions to each other. Nondeterministic kernels are functions assigning each state a set o subprobability measures, and effectivity functions assign to each state an upper-closed set of subsets of measures. Both concepts are generalizations of Markov kernels used for defining two different models: Nondeterministic labelled Markov processes and stochastic game models, respectively. We show that an effectivity function that maps into principal filters is given by an image-countable nondeterministic kernel, and that image-finite kernels give rise to effectivity functions. We define state bisimilarity for the latter, considering its connection to morphisms. We provide a logical characterization of bisimilarity in the finitary case. A generalization of congruences (event bisimulations) to effectivity functions and its relation to the categorical presentation of bisimulation are also studied.

Measures and all that --- A Tutorial

This tutorial gives an overview of some of the basic techniques of measure theory. It includes a study of Borel sets and their generators for Polish and for analytic spaces, the weak topology on the space of all finite positive measures including its metrics, as well as measurable selections. Integration is covered, and product measures are introduced, both for finite and for arbitrary factors, with an application to projective systems. Finally, the duals of the Lp-spaces are discussed, together with the Radon-Nikodym Theorem and the Riesz Representation Theorem. Case studies include applications to stochastic Kripke models, to bisimulations, and to quotients for transition kernels.

Categories and all that -- A Tutorial

This is a short introduction to categories with some emphasis on coalgebras. We start from introducing basic notions (categories, functors, natural transformations), move to Kleisli tripels and monads, with a short discussion of monads in Haskell, and continue with displaying the interplay between algebras, adjunctions and monads. Coalgebras are discussed and applied to the semantics of modal logics, giving a brief introduction to coalgebraic logics as well. The development is illustrated through examples, usually taken from applications to computer science, with a certain predilection for stochastic systems.

Sets, the Axiom of Choice, And All That: A Tutorial

This tutorial deal with the Axiom of Choice and some of its applications to topics related to Computer Science. We will see that the Axiom of Choice is equivalent to some well-known proof principles like Zorn's Lemma or Tuckey's Maximality Principle. We try to touch upon some topics, which appear to be important for developing mathematical structures within computer science.

Algebraic Properties of Stochastic Effectivity Functions

Effectivity functions are the basic formalism for investigating the semantics game logic. We discuss algebraic properties of stochastic effectivity functions, in particular the relationship to stochastic relations, morphisms and congruences are defined, and the relationship of abstract logical equivalence and behavioral equivalence is investigated.

Stochastic Interpretation of Game Logic

Game logic is a dynamic modal logic which models strategic two person games; it contains propositional dynamic logic (PDL) as a fragment. We propose an interpretation of game logic based on stochastic effectivity functions. A definition of these functions is proposed, and some algebraic properties of effectivity functions such as congruences are investigated. The relationship to stochastic relations is characterized through a deduction system. Logical and behavioral equivalence of game models is investigated. Finally the completion of models receives some attention.

Towards a Coalgebraic Interpretation of Propositional Dynamic Logic

The interpretation of propositional dynamic logic (PDL) through Kripke models requires the relations constituting the interpreting Kripke model to closely observe the syntax of the modal operators. This poses a significant challenge for an interpretation of PDL through stochastic Kripke models, because the programs' operations do not always have a natural counterpart in the set of stochastic relations. We use rewrite rules for building up an interpretation of PDL. It is shown that each program corresponds to an essentially unique irreducible tree, which in turn is assigned a predicate lifting, serving as the program's interpretation. The paper establishes and studies this interpretation. It discusses the expressivity of probabilistic models for PDL and relates properties like logical and behavioral equivalence or bisimilarity to the corresponding properties of a Kripke model for a closely related non-dynamic logic of the Hennessy-Milner type.
